Just a quick blog entry before I go to the gym...

Recently, I've been thinking, what exactly defines success? Is it wealth? Is it happiness? Is it ones vocational satisfaction/respect level?

For me, success used to be defined by wealth. Now, I'm not so sure.
Just curious as to how YOU define success.

For me it's wealth, but not in the sense that having a shit ton of money means I'm successful. I want the wealth to be able to live life how I want to and not have to be nitty about my time and money.

Success isn't one thing, it is the combination of everything, Friends, Love, Wealth, Health, Spirituality, Family and so on, you have to pu time and effort in every of those aspects of life to be successful in life in general, having money without everything else listed there is uter garbage.

Just being happy. I mean, being happy with all aspects of your life. If you become a billionaire but are lonley, that's not success. If you're poor but very happy with the little that you have and you're with someone you love/family you love, that's much more succesful imo. I think it's just as good to be rich as hell and have loving family/wife/friends and all that shit as it is to be poor as hell and have all that shit. It just depends on your frame of mind, imo. Some people find lot's of money to be one of the aspects to what makes them happy, other people choose to give everything up and live in a cave and meditate and so on. Everyone is happy for different reasons. True success is figuring out what REALLY makes you happy and doing it. If that means having a lot of money and having everyone leave you alone, then that's success too. I think most people prefer to have someone to love though.

happiness=success, money=worthless(from spiritual aspect), because it's like a disea, the more you have the more you want.

I dont think success has anything to do with happiness at all. It depends only on whether or not you accomplished what you set out to do, whether its make a lot of money, get a good job or whatever. Success doesn't depend on happiness, but happiness can sometimes depend on success. You really don't have to be successful to be happy though.

There it is.

Pokerwise I always wanted to be a winning player at 2/4 6max after watching someone's poker vid in early 2005. Seeing them throw around hundreds like nothing really woke me up, dayum.

Success is an unrealistic ideal created in the individual mind that promotes a life of stress and dissatisfaction. The purpose of life is devilishly simple. Bruce Lee stated it better than most quotes I've ever read.

"The Purpose of life, is to Live"

Beyond these simple words there is nothing. As long as you have enough money for food and basic shelter despite what people might tell you, money is not a factor in happiness. People in third world countries typically report similar levels of happiness and satisfaction with life as those in developed nations. If you survive the day, you've achieved the only true purpose of life. Everything on top of that is simply free time to do as you choose. Remember that most people leave behind no legacy. Very few are remembered for more than a few centuries. Hence all that is left is to enjoy each moment and appreciate your life. You only have so much time and most of the major life changing events you will experience are unpredictable. Things like losing a job, finding someone special, getting in an accident. Success is unrealistic because it promotes the idea that life is about some kind of end game where you finally get to be satisfied/happy. There is no secret about the real end game of life, its death. If you spend your life pursuing something you envision as "success" that is always out of reach you will likely be left feeling unsatisfied. Try to develop an appreciation for simple pleasures. Since you only have so much time you may as well spend it focusing on doing things you enjoy and gain intrinsic pleasure from rather than pursing goals or idea's of success where the only enjoyment comes from the final accomplishment. Thats not to say its bad to work towards something bigger through small steps, it's just to say that those small steps should be something you enjoy doing. Otherwise life is just a grind, and as poker players I think we all know how much we hate to grind.

It's 2:30AM here and this is probably just babble, but its all I can blurt out in my current state, maybe it's of some help.
