- Josh Emmett was expected to face promotional newcomer Jeremy Kennedy at the event. However, Emmett pulled out of the fight on August 19 with an undisclosed injury. UFC promotional newcomer Alex Ricci replaces Emmett against Jeremy Kennedy.
- The Ultimate Fighter: China winner Ning Guangyou was expected to face Marlon Vera at UFC 202. However, due to an out-of-competition failed test and following investigation concluding Guangyou ingested the substance without fault or negligence, the bout was moved to this event. In turn, the bout was postponed again due to alleged visa issues for Guangyou, which restricted the timing of his travel.
- Chad Laprise missed weight, coming in at 159 lbs. As a result, he was fined 20% of his fight purse, which will go to his opponent Thibault Gouti. The fight will proceed as scheduled.

Like ur picks, not sure about the maia fight that one is so tough for me. I guess that is reflected in the dead even odds. I feel like one guy prob has a decent edge though just not sure who. Rly depends if maia is able to do his thing vs condit.
I also thick pettis will win but that is probably biased
mmmmm tough to call I think Condit can TKO Maia cause is a 5 round fight.
Oliveira is good but I think Pettis got this. Miller vs Lauzon will be FOTN for sure.
Rooting for Barzola :D

If that was 3 rounds i would be all over maia. I am pretty sure round 1 will go maia's way. But i also think condit can survive.
By round 3, maia will slow down and condit can probably take over, and maybe even get a finish.
I'm probably betting condit due to this being a 5 rounds fight.

Maia vs. Condit: I like this fight to go o3.5 rounds @ -130 (the line was originally at -160).
1. While it's a 5-round fight, Maia has shown good cardio when he's able to secure take downs on the first attempt and when his opponent doesn't put up much of a struggle.
2. Condit has always been easy to take down, mostly cuz his height and he just sucks against elite TD artists.
3. Percent and consistency wise, Maia has the best TDs at welterweight (correct me if I'm wrong). Taking down Condit in the first 2 rounds will be easy.
4. Condit has good BJJ, and I don't think he'll get submitted.
5. What worries me as a Condit backer is how well he'll be able to defend the take downs after the first 10 minutes. Let's say that Maia slows down after the first 2 rounds, and Condit starts looking better on the feet. Condit can EASILY get taken down in Round 4 or 5 and lose a decision. People thinking Condit will just automatically TKO Maia after he starts to slow down are wrong, as Maia is so good at clinching and stalling action, and Condit has always needed distance to be an effective striker.
----------
Pettis vs. Oliveira: no lines are out yet as of me posting this on Monday @ 1:55pm PST.
1. Pettis is dropping to 145 for the first time. He MIGHT deal with a bad weight cut in his first drop to a lower weight class, and he MIGHT not be fully adjusted to the faster fighters at 145 like Frankie Edgar wasn't against Aldo (Pettis had problems with the faster + aggro fighters at 155, so it'd make sense if he had the same problems at 145 where guys are faster in general than 155`ers).
2. Pettis is on a 3-fight losing streak. 2 fights were against wrestlers who wouldn't give him space and kept taking him down, and one fight was against a rangy aggressive striker who WOULD NOT fight at Pettis' slow pace and kept moving.
3. Oliveira is the same height as Pettis, and also has a 2-inch reach advantage.
4. While we know Pettis has good BJJ, Oliveira has MUCH better BJJ and is more active with it. Say what you want about Myles Jury and Hatsu Hioki, but Oliveira gave both of them their first BJJ losses, and both of those guys were known to have good defensive BJJ in MMA: Jury with 1 sub loss is 17 fights, and Hioki with 1 sub loss in 39 fights.
5. While Pettis is known for his striking, he's a low to medium volume striker who isn't good at fighting at a high pace, and is facing a guy with above average movement who also fights at a distance.
I mean, I guess Pettis is the rightful favorite for what he has done at 155 pounds, but imo, you're a sucker if you pay over 2-1 for him in this spot. There's too many unknowns for him in this fight.

That's like the crux of every single Maia fight. Would be cool to see Condit smoothly move laterally to dodge a clinch/takedown attempt from Maia and uncork a heavy headkick like his moment vs GSP. Because I think Condit retires if he loses this and I enjoy watching him. But I think Maia's probably gonna Maia just enough in the majority of 3-4 rounds to win a decision while surviving a couple dangerous moments
Pettis's career is nuts. First fighter to get on such a mainstream thing like the Wheaties box while looking like a champion at 155 who could have some longevity if he had better injury luck. Then hasn't been able to buy a win since to the point that he has to move down in weight 3 fights removed from looking so good as champion in a higher weight class. Go Pettis. You can't go out like this

Oliveria is a very good match up for Pettis - A slowish plodding guy with horrible durability, extremely hittable and poor offensive wrestling in space.
Would it surprise me if Pettis let Oliveria get a takedown from the clinch and grind him out / find the submission? No. Should it happen? Absolutely not, there's no excuse given Pettis's athleticism and skill-set. Pettis should finish Oliveria in spectacular fashion after picking him apart for a round or two.

Remember that time when Pettis closed as -750 favorite over RDA. LOL, talk about a hype job this guy is the closest thing we have seen to Ronda.
Since then Pettis looks lost to me. He got himself a new wresting coach for the Alvarez fight and lost it. Then he changed camps and got outclassed by Barboza. Now he is dropping a weight class... , what is next?
Having said that Oliveira is the perfect match up for him to shine again. Other than his insane bjj, he has nothing for Pettis. His footwork is far from stellar, his striking is slow and not very fluid, he is easily hittable and not the most durable guy. If he losses that fight, He might as well retire.
Also I think Bec Rawling has some value. Her line should get even better by fight night.

I'd bet condit if it weren't high.
I just bet on Condit on betsson he was at -105. Just 10 bucks and I think thats going to be my only bet for this event.

Sorry, calling him a hype job considering RDA was in his best juiced up physical condition in his life is quite a bad argument.
He s entertaining to watch for sure.
Thats like saying Conor was a hype job after his Diaz loss, except Diaz wasnt juiced, but still physically they are in 2 different leagues.

Hard to put it into percentages, but Maia can submit Condit.
If they fought 10 times and Maia had him on the ground for 10 minutes in those 10 fights, I'd say he could submit Condit at least 4 times. (I mentioned 10 minutes, which equals 2 rounds, and I think Maia will have Condit on the ground for most of the first 2 rounds, unless he gets a fast submission)
Glover Teixeira had only been knocked out (TKO) one time in 14 years, and it was in his pro MMA debut. However, he met Anthony Johnson last weekend and got 1-punch KO`ed like it was no big deal. I see Maia as the Anthony Johnson of submissions, in that they'll both finish you more often than not.

Condit is creative, aggressive and a bit sloppy with his striking because he has a very solid guard, he is also very good at getting back up but Maia is a fucking wet blanket, he is not going to lose position I think this fight goes to a decision very often because either Maia simply wins by laying on top of him 3+ rounds or Condit fights very smart and doesnt fall for Maias shitty faints.
I cant believe people really get taken down by Maia in that way reacting to his punches, he has never thrown a hard punch in his life, just dont mind his stupid punches, dont react to them and pot shot him to a victory.

Has Condit consistently defended takedowns from anyone, ever?
This is a fight where he could probably just spend all camp only defending takedowns, but historically he hasn't bothered with it so that's a bit worrying to me.
Hm.. Off-suite socks..

I saw an interview with Condit recently saying he's worked on a bunch of new stuff this camp, including lots of footwork. So we could see him try and use a ton of movement to try and keep space from him at Maia. That said I don't think Maia relies on his feints as much as you suggest. He will often shoot with no set up just trying to time it with your punches and even if you stuff him initially he's really good at chain wrestling/sticking to you till he gets you down.
Honestly I can see this fight go a ton of ways. Maia via decision or early sub. Condit via early tko, late tko, or decision.

I don't think Pettis looked as bad as people make it out, we're just used to seeing him at 155 where he had a lil extra fat on him. It's not like he looked like McGregor or James Irvin.

Awad lost a close fight. Both he and Anderson fought below their usual level, so I'm not sure what to say about it. Maybe they were nervous, dunno.
Patricio is now +295.
----------
Patricio won Round 1, then he stopped the fight himself early in Round 2 because something went wrong with his foot, so he lost. It was the first time Patricio has ever been "stopped" in a fight.
He closed at +340.
Benson got SUPER lucky there, because he got taken down in Round 2 and was looking like he had no answer for the speed and movement of Patricio.
Talk about conspiracy theory...

i think pettis looked fine; supposedly he doesn't even cut rly at all fighting 155 (barboza was way bigger in there his last fight). prob walks at 160. this was his first real cut.
page looked hot imo, better than usual I thought. like a cute girl without makeup even tho she was prob wearing it. thought it was funny she doesn't even flex her arms at all at the end like she is trying to look girly and feminine rather than look a strong intimidating fighter. I'm sure shed rather do some modelling / TV and already has one foot in the door (and out of mma)

More I think about it more I think Condit is fucked.
Was originally slightly leaning Condit due to the 5 round massive cardio edge factor but now I'm leaning pretty strongly Maia. I feel like I've been overrating Condit's ability to make Maia work on the ground in the early rounds and get the dynamic changed by the middle of the fight.
Don't get me wrong, Condit is definitely a crafty offensive BJJ guy, but that obviously doesn't play here, and for some reason I had it in my head that he was better than he might actually be from an all around grappling standpoint.

Just wanted to remind everyone that this is a FOX card, which means it starts earlier than the usual UFC cards.
Due to 2 fights getting canceled, this fight card will start at 2pm PST / 5pm EST. It was originally supposed to start one hour earlier than that.
- 20 bucks on Condit (10+10)
- 10 bucks on Barzola
- 15 bucks on Pettis

Awad vs Anderson was an awesome fight. Really surprised how Bendo looked. When he left the UFC I still considered him a top 5 LW, he should have won against Cerrone. How he was on his way to losing to a fringe top 10/15 FW? wth.
Condit - Fights a flip but picking Condit because I like him more
Pettis - I think his TDD is good enough to avoid the grappling with Aloe Vera, and Aloe Vera reaaaally doesn't like to get hit and Pettis is a sniper. Hope Pettis looks good, a rejuvenated Pettis would be a good add to the mix at 145.

FWIW, I think Oliveira has better take downs than Eddie Alvarez.
If Pettis doesn't get a quick knockout, Oliveira will probably surprise you with his taoe downs, especially against someone like Pettis. Pettis has a good wrestling coach, but he won't be able to stop the take downs if it goes to R2, imo.

I thought Pettis's body looked fine. It's just that his face being extra sucked in made his profile look like some weird caveman version of himself. Oliveira looked good. Should be fun and hopefully an explosive fight after a minute or two. Hoping Pettis can find a shot to badly hurt Oliveira or finish him by end of r1 or middle of two
Rawlings looked pretty deathly at the real weigh in but I guess she always has a tough cut? Either way the speed/athletisicm gap for PVZ should be pretty massive
Someone mentioned how good Maia's chain wrestling is. Made me remember how often I think an opponent is gonna shake off his initially weak looking takedown attempt only to see Maia still somehow holding on to a limb or two a good 6 seconds later before he drags the guy down. Going to go small on Condit though to trust in Condits ground defense and hope for the combination of a little damage being done at the beginning of rounds with Condit making Maia work for each position so his cardio advantage can come into play. Admittedly that last bit is very hopeful. Never seen someone move from position to position and control his opponent so effortlessly like Maia

I could end up being totally wrong, but I think Pettis/Oliveira will go to a decision. I picked Oliveira by decision on my UFC.com fantasy picks.
I'll post my DK teams in a bit.

Great job by Alvey. He really showed improvement in this fight, even though it might not have seemed like it at first glance.

I've seen Kevin Casey fight just about each time ever since his TUF season and I've never been impressed by a single thing the guy has ever done.

I had it 30-27 Lauzon, but only cuz he got on top of Miller one way or another in each round. Miller won the fight on the feet, which is where most of the fight took place.
I'm glad Miller got the win.

While miller won that standup i really didnt think he won the fight. 30-27 lauzon would be fine imo but at least 29-28. Too bad joe didnt fire off that armbar sooner

Bendo looked TERRIBLE last night. Was about to get 30-27d or KOd before the bellator featherweight broke his leg getting his kick checked. Guessing Chandler smashes him

Probably woulda been better off giving up mount than his back. Condit was fucked realistically either way i think his equity there was quite low wishful thinking aside

Was Maia's choke under the chin? I couldn't tell.
Anyway, I'm glad it ended fast. It would've been a boring fight if Condit was able to defend.
Condit took a massive risk fighting Maia. He wanted that instant title shot if he won this fight, but now he will retire for sure like he was gonna do after the robbery loss to Lawler.

Na it was a face wrap, maybe squeezing the sides of the neck.

Respect to maia for at least acting like it wasnt the easiest fight of his life.
If you fight maia you should prolly do some quick sprints around the inside of the octagon before and after the bell rings to break a nice sweat. Make sure u got a solid gastank and sacrifice a little of it to not get snap choked out by that fucking human snake

DraftKings: Risked $20, won $15, lost -$5.
Basically, Shane Campbell cost me from having a good night. He's just terrible. Regarding Oliveira, the fight was going the way I expected it to, and imo, he was on his way to winning a decision b4 Pettis got that submission. Also, I didn't have Chad Laprise in any teams cuz he's known as a decision fighters, not a R1 KO artist. Lastly, I didn't have Maia in a bunch of teams cuz I expected either a decision or a late finish, but I was wrong there; glad I faded Condit for the most part.
I went 8-2 on my picks, so I'm happy that I was able to read most of the fights.
I start my first semester of my teaching credential classes next week, so I won't be doing much research for my upcoming picks on DK. That being said, less research might be a good thing, considering Summer 2016 was the most I've ever watched tape/studied fighters, and it ended up being my longest losing streak on DK.

Maia just said his submission wasn't a crank, it was a choke; a blood choke. He cut off the blood flow to the side of the neck.

aw man so disappinted with the outcome of oliveira-pettis. I didn't want pettis to lose the 4th in a row but still i had to root for charles. such a shame he was caught. on the other side im also happy pettis won. I think he definitely lives up to his nickname showtime and has some very quick and sneaky subs.
im a regular at nl5

What a way to end the press conference after he said he got rocked by a shot from Maia when he was closing the distance. He said he felt a little dizzy, or something similar, and he didn't expect that from Maia.

Well its good to see him being honest. Its a reality that as you grow older and get more damage, its harder to take the shots. Everyone will end up being Ko. I would not be surprised to see DC gets KO'ed soon even though he proved to be a tank. But, that being the last question with no follow up sure sucks.

says something about what fighting does to the brain
like binge drinking booze makes blacking out progressively easier and easier
or doing blow daily for long enough leads to anxiety and panic attacks; hotwiring adrenal/nor-epinephrine response
you can tell how sick disappointed and disillusioned condit is after this one. sucks

just rewatched condit woodley.
condit basically eats the same bomb (or dam close) that put lawler away multiple times and a very hard spinning elbow. Sad that a maia gnp strike had him so phased...

Hopefully Pettis regains some confidence now. Him vs Aldo, if he actually fixes his cardio, would be quite entertaining to watch imo, prob never going to happen though.

I wasn't able to watch this one yet, the recaps Ives seen talk like Pettis was winning all the grappling exchanges and won fairly comfortably, is that just BS?

Forgot to bet on Condit... lucky. Glad Pettis won, he looked good. Maia what a beast, took Condit apart real fast.

I thought it was 1-1 and the 3rd round looked close, am I crazy?

Thought its 1-1 and tbh the way 3rd round went I'm fairly certain Pettis was leading, considering how he outmanoeuvred him multiple times

agree with spitfire.
oliveira basically just had takedowns; if pettis steps up his TDD he dominates

I had Oliveira winning R3 prior to getting subbed. Pettis was tired and was going to lose a decision.
and maybe is cause I bet on him and was scared he loses the decision, but now I see that the round was closer than I remembered. My point was that Pettis didnt won the match fairly comfortably it was a hard match for him. (Answering to Tianyuan)

No he was getting lit up on the feet too, his problem is his gas tank, he is better than Olivera on the feet and on the ground, he simply gets tired too quickly
