It has nothing to do with varianza and card draws, that shouldnt affect winrate, the problem is the skill cap.

Heartstone has made the game very mindless, aggro decks are extremly powerful to the point that you see facehunters in almost every tournament by the best players and its a mindless strategy and it has gone downhill since naxramas, deathrattle that spawns more minions just fucked control decks, now board clears are useless there will always be some shredder, egg, creeper among other dynamics.

We have been discussing this since a long time, most legendaries are useless because of this etc

I think the skill ceiling is higher than you think.

Go watch a replay of someone like StrifeCo, and before each turn begins, try to think of how you would play the turn.
I almost guarentee you won't play everything exactly like him, especially if you watch him play one of his more complex decks (Not just face hunter).

Now, you might think your plays are almost as good as his. But actually, all those small variations can affect the outcome a decent % of the time.
StrifeCo actually did a 33 win streak before, when he was grade 10.

The thing is, those small edges gained by playing flawlessly, really looks like they don't matter compared with the luck factor of the cards. But in reality, it does matter in the long run, in a way similar to poker. Reaching legend by putting in volume is easy, but reaching #24 legend isn't that easy

Im subscribed to Trump, StrifeCo and Amaz and its very rare that we dont make the same play even in the difficult decks like freezemage, lock or patron

Patron is the most difficult deck to date to play, its still not very difficult, animations are a huge problem it leaves you only a couple of seconds to do arithmetic

what do you mean by very rare? like once in 10 games? If this is true, then you are right, but i'm surprised by this. I personally often see 2 plays which seems viable to me.

Hard to say for sure how often but its rare, Deck building and maybe even Mulliganing seems actually harder to figure out than playing

Just started playing yesterday. How pay2win is the game actually? Like can I grind out the cards or are there lots of cards you have to buy? Is it even worth the time to grind out packs?

I'd say it's pay 2 get full experience than it is pay 2 win. It's possible to achieve legend rank without spending any money on the game, and my personal experience is proof of that. I started playing last September and made legend my first season by playing budget warlock zoo. I also made legend on EU server with oil rogue without spending any money.

If you just do the daily quests and now with the free packs from weekly brawls, there are plenty of high level budget decks you use to carry yourself to legend given that you have the skills, First figure out if you enjoy the game and want to take it seriously. If you want to try to break into the tournament scene, then you can consider spending some money to be able to play a greater variety of decks with varying tech choices.

An another topic, Hearthstone is a game of massive RNG but most people overestimate their own skill and blame RNG too much. As Floofy mentioned, the skill ceiling is a lot higher than most people realize. There's a huge difference in skill between those who can hit legend 1-3 days into the season and those who take 1 week+. There's a huge difference in skill between those with multiple top 100 legend finishes in consecutive months and those who never scratch it. Top streamers like Amaz and Trump don't even come close to being the best ladderers. Their content is useful to newer players but there's a whole new level of thought once you're a consistent legend player trying to maximize every situation and optimize your winrate. To be fair to them though, their focus is on building their streaming business and monetizing their brand while reaching the widest possible audience rather than staying on top of the extremely dynamic legend ladder meta

Jesus. Maybe played 20 casual games. Using mostly my Hunter deck. I think it's about the best deck I can get right now, since I don't have many cards. Pretty much everyone I face has bought packs, and has a much stronger deck then myself. Pretty discouraging haha.
2x Hunter's Mark
2x Arcane Shot
1x Tracking
2x Animal Companion
2x Kill Command
2x Multi-Shot
2x Houndmaster
1x Stonetusk Boar
1x Acidic Swamp Ooze
2x Bloodfen Raptor
2x River Crocolisk
2x Ironfur Grizzly
1x Razorfen Hunter
1x Shattered Sun Cleric
1x Chillwind Yeti
1x Oasis Snapjaw
2x Frostwolf Warlord
2x Boulderfist Ogre
1x Stormwind Champion

there are some pretty good budget decks on hearthpwn.com. so just check that stuff out and try to build decks similar to these as far as you have some cards.
I never paid any cent for HS and I got quite some competitive decks but that took a loooong time. And if you have to catch up through all expansions and stuff then it definitely seems like it is super pay2win but you can be completely fine without paying any cent but you just can not expect to run any decent deck for next 6 months or so.

I was basically just playing Zoolock-typisch decks or aggro hunter decks as they were cheap and simple and just did daily quests and arenas. As soon as they revelead Info on expansions I just saved up all the gold for these xpansions w/o playing any arena anymore. That all worked out well for me but if i would imagine starting from scratch again. uuuh that would seem like such a stony and long road.

Go full aggro Facehunter, that is the best deck you can build in a budget

Ok so I've built this aggro face hunter deck http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/203395-rank-1-cheap-simple-facehunter. I couldn't use all the card suggested as I can't afford to craft them all, so I had to substitute with some basic cards. How bad is this deck?

1x Hunters Mark
1x Tracking
2x Abusive Sergeant
2x Leper Gnome
2x Worgen Infiltrator
2x Glaivezooka
2x Acidic Swamp Ooze
2x Bloodfen Raptor
2x Bluefill Warrior
2x Ironbeak Owl
1x Mad Bomber
2x Animal Companion
2x Kill Command
2x Ironfur Grizzly
2x Wolfrider
1x Unleash The Hounds
2x Houndmaster

Get rid of the bomber you will have low health minios its very counterproductive.

Also get rid of the Grizzly you dont give a fuck about Taunting, you will attack the face always.

Get rid of tracking, you will basically be playing whatever you have on mana curve

Get Mad scientist with explosive traps (if you have them)

I subbed Grizzly, tracking, and bomber for 2x stonetusk boar, and 2x ironforge rifleman. I don't have Mad scientist and explosive traps. Just have basic cards left to use. What basic cards would you suggest replacing 2x grizzly, 1x tracking, and 1x bomber with?

Arcane Golems.

another good thing about this deck is that the average matchup is decided very fast, so you manage to have a lot of games per hour
