I'm sorry but what makes you think boiling the butter is better?
I thought it was common knowledge already that the higher the ratio of saturated fat to unsaturated fat the worse something is for you.

I also take great offense in your potato comment as Iceland's countryside probably has every so slightly cleaner air, water and soil.

Mariuslol   Norway. Jan 15 2013 12:10. Posts 4742

Said boil, but I don't really boil it. My bad, I heat it up, in light temperature. My oven goes to 6, I put it on 3, just for it to melt. And when it have melted. I have it standing there for around 10 - 15 minutes. And it becomes really clear. Then you have the 15% which is milk protein, n shit u don't want seperated from the pure fat.

And I only use that fat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarified_butter

Something like that.

I think Iceland is known for infertile soil? It's got volcanos, and all kinds of eruptions n sulphur like thingy? Too tired to google n check it up. Pretty sure Norway soil just pee's all over Iceland soil. Same with air, pretty sure it's much cleaner up here as well. I know a few years back we won some award for cleanest water. And water in Norway from before is known as being sick clean, and we at the top of that. It crushes the cleanest shit u get in bottles, so yay.

Hmm, maybe I'm being a little patriotic lol, common fallacy T_T

That is why I do that to the butter lol. It can't take that high temperature, normal butter that is. Also one of the reasons I use coconut for frying stuff. You can use higher temperature. I try not to go over 180 degrees or so, never fry or barbeque the food. To make sure the fat is all awesome n stuff.

What type of oil is that in the bottle? What do you use it for and what are the alternatives.
Those eggs look straight off the shelf of a store, have you tried free-range eggs ? I find the ones i get from the market to be much better.
What is your experience with dark bread, brown rice and mushrooms?

Which type of coconut oil is good for you? What am i looking for if i go hunting for it.
Do you steam your veggies, do you have that rice cooker aparatus and how do you fry stuff? What kinds of pans do you use?
How much time do you spend on buying and preparing food in a week?

You can add fun recipes in your blogposts for others to try. Also, afaik carbs are ok as long as you are active.

I don't think potatoes are healthier in some countries? could be wrong. Make sure it's not gmo or pesticide sprayed or something, if I had more choice I would only eat organic food.

The good: This food is very low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber and Folate, and a very good source of Vitamin C and Vitamin K.

The Bad: A large portion of the calories in this food come from sugars.

Hrmpffh, found some vods about the Prom Juice, some cheating n stuff. Advertisement bout it doing shit it don't do:

K don't use the nutrition facts website as evident in this example. They state saturated fat is bad for you, it's not.

Anyway, I can only advise you to follow the paleo diet or a variant of it. You posted a link from Marksdailyapple, that dude knows his stuff. I'd say soak up everything he writes on that website and follow that rigidly. You'll see that the more you read, the more it makes sense even if it is against what most 'diet-guru's' would advise.

And like Drone said; only eat real food. That's basically what paleo is about as well. Bread doesn't grow on trees or walks about, it's not real food, thus it's unhealthy.

Eat:

- vegetables (lots of em)
- fruit (some, should be seen as a delicacy that you don't eat too often too much)
- meat (grass-fed beef, organic chickens are obviously best but also expensive/hard to get)
- fish (do some extensive research which type of fish are healthy because a lot of them are really unhealthy)
- starch only if you're doing sports that day. You don't need starch if you're just walking/sitting about. You only need starch if you have to do intensive excercises. Best type of starch is probably sweet potatoes. Otherwise, regular potatoes aren't too bad.
- Extra virgin olive oil, palm oil, coconut oil, grass fed butter (do NOT use margarine, that stuff among other vegetable oils has caused heart disease to be almost non-existant to the #1 killer of mankind in the last 100 years).
- Nuts and nut oil. Don't cook in nut oil, it gets radical and raunchy, really unhealthy. Just drizzle it over your salad if you like that stuff. Peanuts are not nuts btw.

After that it all depends on how strict you want to follow it.

Anyway, I'm not gonna enter any discussions because we've had these topics before. I'll just say; soak up marksdailyapple.com and whenever you buy something in the store, ask yourself this; is this real food? And avoid E621 (MSG, mono sodium glutamate, taste enhancer) like the plague.

the more i research about stuff the more confused i get. everything has drawbacks and downsides. finding out an optimal diet is very hard

For example, I love fruit and think eating lots of fruit is great for longevity as its raw and has many nutrients, but most fruits are full of sugar. Not to mention some of these fruits (oranges for instance) have components in them that bind to testosterone and render it inert.

Then going down the testosterone lane, if you want to boost it you have to eat lots of fat. Nuts, meats, omega 3s etc. But by eating these you raise cholesterol and there are other side effects as well.

ive always been in pretty good shape. im 6'0, oscillate between 172-182 pounds and am reasonably athletic. But I have tried versions of different diets in order to either put on a little more muscle, try to lose a little fat, try to increase testosterone or increase energy.

some diets ive experimented with:
1. Slow Carb Diet - This I found in the book the 4 hour body by Timothy Ferris. http://fourhourbody.com/ Basically no fruits, no pastas, no dairy, no sweets for 6 days a week. you are basically eating lean meats, fish, veggies, some complex grains, nuts and then one day a week you have a cheat day where you eat roughly 5000 calories and really go crazy. It was an interesting diet and I have seen people get results with it, but given that my body fat is probably around 12-14% it wasnt of much use to me to cut out all the things that have benefits in other areas for me.

2. Paleo diet - basicaly avoid grains, processed foods and dairy. Think this is ok in theory but I love carbs and have trouble cutting them completely out of my life. Not to mention my girlfriend is vietnamese and we eat asian food 10+ times a week. I try to eat certain meals paleo, like for example I go to whole foods salad bar, get some salmon or chicken with beets, kale and butternut squash, but I feel as if Paleo is missing fiber in the diet and could use more from beans and some grains.

3. Vegetarian/Raw - I included these together cause for periods of time I both tried to give up meat completely and then tried to give up all processed foods. I just found it too much work and I was giving up too much that I loved. I also think its lacking and people have to really consume a lot to get enough energy, protein and fats in their diet.

I think some combination/intersection of these 3 is probably correct. Eating mostly veggies with 5 servings of fish, 2-3 servings of grass fed beef and chicken, nuts, beans like lentils, and some non high sugar fruits like blackberries, apples, pears, avocados mixed in. I think this would be best for optimizing performance but fuck if i know. every time i hear a new diet i feel like im being invited to join a different cult.

paleo diet really became a fashion nowadays...
idk there are just as many cons as pros on the internet about it

Daut    United States. Jan 15 2013 16:37. Posts 8955

one other thing i forgot is juicing. I dont drink OJ or anything like that, but probably 2-3 times a week I go get an apple+beet+kale+spinach+ginger+lemon juice. I think its the right combo of things that it isnt too much sugar and has plenty of nutrients.

posted everything before reading the thread, and just read it now. basically what drone said. just eat natural foods, dont overdo sugars or meats.

Telling someone to eat paleo yet to avoid starch or "not eat to much of it" is hypocritical. Paleo is all about eating like our ancestors did and a huge majority of them got most of their calories from starch.
One of the few who didnt are the Inuit who are notorious for aging quickly.

Twisted    Netherlands. Jan 15 2013 17:16. Posts 10422

Wat. No they got most of their calories from fat/meat/protein.

Ah I wasn't gonna argue. Not my favourite thing on the internet.

Also to marius, I'm not all that knowledgable about this but IBS is closely linked to poor gut flora. You should problaby focus more on that rather than reading 10 different sites that doesnt address your issues.
A new treatment for IBS is fecal transplants which is exactly what it sounds like Apparently most of whom have done it are pretty much cured instantly.

just to be clear I think bread and rice and potatoes and pasta all qualify as real food in terms of my advice. but for anyone who wants to live healthily, following the 3 step guideline I quoted from some other guy whose name I don't remember is gonna do the trick. if you're trying to attain a certain very specific body type then other diets might be more suitable. ;p
