We only had him for a little over 3 weeks, he was totally super fucking awesome and so goddamn cute. We named him Constantine the Conqueror. When we got him he had worms, took him to the vet just for a check up, sure no big deal just go pick up 3 pills that will clean his system out. Holy shit I've never seen so many worms in my life the first day, only a few left on the 2nd treatment and when the 3rd treatment came out clean we all figured he was good to go. One minute he's happy and jumping around playing with the kids then he just fell over stopped breathing and his heart was racing like a crazy, a bit of blood started coming out of the side of his mouth and nose, so we raced him to the vet they gave him a few shots and he woke back up shortly, the vet told us he had a rare type of hook worm that the normal deworming pills don't clear up....ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, FUCKING DEWORMING PILLS THAT DON'T FUCKING WORK ON GETTING RID OF WORMS!!!! He died a few moments later only 11 weeks old. I still wake up craddling the spot on the bed where he used to sleep, I still look under my desk before rolling my chair in to make sure I don't run over his paws...I miss the little guy he had such an amazing personality that you couldn't possibly replace.

Did you pick him up at a pet store?
Very important question. When you get a puppy from a reputable breeder, they will have gone through at least 3 or 4 dewormings with the puppies. When you buy them at a pet store, not only do they charge you an exorbitant price for a low quality (i.e. non-showbreed or working line) dog, they will have no health guarantees from breeding (i.e. hip examinations or illnesses in the genetic line). 99% of the time they buy the puppy from a puppy mill- a chicken coop for dogs to breed, if you will. These dogs are locked in tiny cages with no room for movement, in their own urine and feces, often extremely sick and in pain. Pet stores that sell puppies are extremely immoral and just do it to make a quick buck. Pet stores will always assure you they buy only from licensed breeders (this means nothing by the way, a reputable breeder would never sell to a petstore).
If you DID buy him at a petstore, you can easily sue or get them shut down. Do a little reading online about puppy mills if this applies to you. |

We got him from some lady on craig's list her dog got out and ended up pregnant and the mother rejected this puppy and nearly killed it so he had to stay in the back of her car and she was going to throw him in the pound. That's why I made sure to take him into the vet as soon as we got him for a full check up plus shots. |

Completely negligent dog owner. People like this should be put in the pound themselves. |

I'm so sorry to hear this. Dogs are amazing creatures. I'm a huge dog lover myself, and we had to put our dog down as well...

Don't at all mean to derail your thread, but it's always good to share stories of loved ones, i figure.

He was a long-haired german shepard named Schultz. He was so loyal and protective. One night, while I was in high school, I tried sneaking back into my house through the backyard. He was an outdoor dog, lived the good life in a bed he had on our back porch. He heard the noise and tried to protect his masters from the intruder. I heard his scowling growl, and slowly said "Schultz, it's me," with a small hint of fear knowing what he was capable of, although more confident that he would eventually figure it out. I put my hand out for him to sniff, and he ever so slowly moved toward my hand to see who it was. As my scent gave him confirmation, the growl turned to what is a dog's laughter, and he played for a bit. I told him how much of a good boy he was for protecting the house before I went in. He knew that he had done his job.
I still miss him so much.
He was abused by his first master, somehow got away and found my uncle on his farm. My uncle, being the care-giver that he was took him in, even though it most likely meant being put in a financial burden even more. He cared for him for two years or so before he passed away. With no master, we took him in with open arms. He lived with us for about another 5 years or so before we put him down.
I'll never forget the visit to the vet to put him down. I drove my mother (who probably had a closer connection since it was her brothers dog) to the vet, and she spent the better part of an hour and a half in with Schultz's final moments. I tried to wait in the waiting room, but couldn't handle it. I went to the car, turned it on and the song "God blessed the broken road", by Rascal Flatts, started playing immediately, which was the song deemed to be Schultz in the days after making the decision to put him to rest.
It fit the situation perfectly. He had a rough life, and even when he found a caring home, it was taken away abruptly (My uncle died at the age of 33, we think from sleep apnea)
Lately I've just been missing him, so it helps me by telling stories.... Thanks for reading everyone. |
