After last months video interview when Tom "durrrr" Dwan admited he has "a huge issue" with FTP regarding his removal from Team Pro, he wasn't getting much attention. Up until now, when someone posted a simple picture from the nosebleed games in Macau, Asian home for the biggest poker games.

There were few rumors about single pots reacing $5,000,000 and the insane stakes of the games, which were reported to be as high as $12,500/$25,000. However, as mentioned, those were only unconfirmed rumors. Up until now, as this picture was posted:

Tom Dwan is holding at least 25 plaques worth HK$500,000 ($65,000) each in his stack, which makes it at least $2,000,000. Looking at other players stacks, they don't seem shy either.

However, there is still no information about if Tom Dwan really lost $7,000,000 in a single session, just to get re-invited to the game and win back $25,000,000 in one day.

Do American casinos use plaques as well? Or, is that an Asian/European thing?

i imagine they (US players in macau) don't want things like this getting out because of tax implications in the US

just super rich guys. could be a coal mine owner, could be some businessmen, could be govt ppl (way less likely though)

And Macau could be way different situation (still runs captialism in Macau), even tho rich guys in Mainland will go to Macau every once in a while.

Not sure how many good players are on the table. Doesn't seem like durrrr has much competition haha

I've seen the guy on Dwan's left in the Aussie Millions cash games (12 I think? With that retarded commentator you just HAD to mute). Don't remember the name though.

If this is true then I will never understand the inability of these guys to quit the game and live the rest of their lives in some paradisiac island... This game is a true sickness of the mind imo.

Odds are exactly 50%: it either happens or not

this. Once you have 25M, you really don't need any more money imo. You can easily invest it, and earn 1M+ a year, and that is more than enough to live like a king on some paradisiac island, or do pretty much anything you want.

you always have to do something, have a job, else you go insane doesnt matter how rich you are. its not about money for them anymore i think

25M isnt that much. I mean you can spend that in a single day if you wanted. There's houses in Malibu that cost that much. The kind of wealth that removes all obstacles in life, where you can literally buy anything you want no matter what it is, be it space shuttle, aircraft carrier, entire country, or just create some random business that you want to see succeed like selling poo scented play-doh requires tens of billions. Bill Gates worth. And even then if he just starts giving it away to charity that becomes an expense on its own, and once again billions are easily spendable. Nothing wrong with him driving for more, I'm sure people have asked him "why dont you quit while youre ahead?" a hundred times from his journey to 100k and up.

Ok first, i don't think retired people all go insane. And they doesn't have millions. Obviously, with millions, you can much more easily find interesting things to do (travel, visit things, go out, etc).

I do agree you need to be doing "something", but i'm pretty sure there much more interesting way to spend your time than playing poker a bunch of hours a week. To be honest, 5 years ago, i spent most of my time playing poker, and now thats something that could drive someone insane! I really didn't have a good life back hen. I also did the opposite before, spending a few months just enjoying life (no job, no poker, no school), just watching TV with girlfriend, going out, etc, and i had plenty of fun. And that was with a limited budget.

The thing is, you absolutly don't need those 25 millions houses or space shuttles to live an happy life. Of course, humans always want more, but i think 25 millions is more than enough to do most of everything you want, which isn't just retarded unneeded luxury.

Pretty big difference in mindset between retired person who has worked 40+ years and some who has made millions in their 20's.

Well it just depends what makes you happy. If durrr wants to fund the next mars mission, poof his entire net worth is gone.

He's not playing for the money but for the entertainment. To reach the skill level Dwan is at you need to have a ton of interest in the game, and just because you get rich that won't change, so he obviously still plays for fun. Poker is his hobby, rich or not

New player, advice appreciated

rich chinamen go to macau to launder their money(i was told it was not "legal" to take money out of china. They have a fixer in china who arranges everything for them in macau. almost always they "lose" money there but now have a couple millions outside of china. a friend of mine whos based in macau working at a hotel casino told me about this. makes sense though.

The "sickness" is called passion.

Dwan keeps playing poker for the same reason that Kobe kept playing Basketball after he was rich, Iron Maiden still tour, wealthy business owners run their corporation until they die without retiring, authors keep writing even after a best seller, actors keep acting, etc. etc.

No amount of money can pay for the feeling they get when they're owning it at their craft.

This. I think the main reason people question it though is because Dwan seems to go at it in an unhealthy lifestyle manner. Consistently talking about not sleeping for days playing. Always has a sleep deprived look about him.
