Dilemma you've all heard about

Alright so lately I've started thinking a lot more about dropping out and playing poker full time. I met some nice people in the university, even if I decided to quit studying I could still hang out with them on a regular basis. But the problem lies in the idea of me not really being into the whole management thing. I know I don't have that much homework to do and I think I could pretty easily finish the first year but it's not that it doesn't affect my poker playing. During the last month I played only 1300 hands and the reason for it is not only the laziness but also tiredness caused by the parties and university. I didn't really feel like playing/studying poker and I'm not really sure how it is going to look like in the next couple of months if I continued my studies. As a little brag I've gotta add that I met a nice girl which also took some of my time I need some advice, preferably from people who had the same dilemma and decided either to drop out or stay. I'll definitely try to play poker as much as possible and go to the university but right now knowing myself I think it's not gonna work out that well.

Ok people I'm ready to read your comments on it !!

When people ask: What nationality is this guy raking in all the pots? The answer invariably comes back Poland, Poland. Again and again - Karma

Don't go and do poorly unless you're going to Harvard. This day and age everyone has a college degree. They are basically worthless unless you're a top performer who can get recruited to quality company or quality graduate school.

You do not want to have some state school degree with a 2.x GPA. It is worthless and a complete waste of time. Consider taking some time off and devoting yourself to poker or quitting poker and doing well in school.

Now I really am a busto. Thanks FTP.

i wipe my ass with college degrees.

college is the new high school. its there because people live to be 80 nowadays, not 60. the old 18 years old is the new 30.... now all of a sudden its ok to say "im 31 years old and i live at home with my mother" that was LOL in 1980.....both of my parents who have been living in NYC all of there lives movd out when they were 18 and 20. nobody has a "career" till there 30+ nowadays and i blame the scamming colleges for everything. im 22 years old and i have 4 years of electrical experience. thats gets me a WHOLE lot further than w/e useless degree your getting. i KNOW il have a job or my own little company some day. its a shame what colleges do, people are practically putting up colleges in there own back yards and basements. the only ones getting jobs are the administrators that steal your money for going to their shitty school of hollow promises.

edit: the whole point is focus on learning something you KNOW will be your CAREER. isnt it obv that when your trying to become an accounting major and they want you to take music classes and history???? doesnt that make u say wtf???

/end rant

Even if this is true in america it's not true everywhere, also how much your degree will help you in getting a job obviously depends what you're studying.

well ur not gonna get a decent job without a degree. depends what u want to do in ur life. if u get a degree u always gonna have something to fall back on. switch to part-time studying (zaoczne)? or go uni in uk - much less work (if u dont go to a top school) and in poland a bachelor from uk (pretty much any university) is worth as much as masters from poland (as in if u get just a bachelor in poland its gonna be hard to find a good job but if u have a bachelor from uk then its not a problem). also for some reason they really value degrees from abroad in poland and u get much better job prospects once u decide to go back

Fall back on? No reputable employer would ever hire someone who graduated from college then played poker professionally and failed. They will take the 22 year old new graduate for a starting position much sooner than they'd hire the flaky 26 year old failed ex-professional gambler. This "fall back on" stuff is a myth IMO.

Get it out of your system before you start so you can get a 4.0 and go to med school.

But ya it might be different in other countries.

poland is quite a different story. GPA, gaps on your cv (at least if its right after graduating, not in the middle of your career) etc are really not that big of a deal as far as i know

I didn't find it to difficult to get a job at 26 when I played professional baseball after college. It's probably looked upon better then failing at poker, but the point it you've been out of learning etc for 4+ years and at least poker stimulates your mind. Either way currently the job market is so saturated with college grads that until something changes a degree is pretty worthless other then to say you have one.
