I'm bored, should of been asleep 4 hours ago. I've been thinking on and off about my long session today where I ran really bad, winning like 1/10 showdowns, set over set, flush over flush and such. Importantly, when I detected tilt finally forming, I got up and took a degen nap in the parking garage to de-tilt. I came back and unstuck myself to being only 100bb down. This has inspired me to write a quick post detailing a couple of aspects of my game I want to focus on improving.

Two areas I need to improve on include winners/run good tilt, and comprehending my image at the table correctly from each individual player's perspective. Winners/run good tilt is just such a basic thing that it is pretty self explanatory, I just need to make sure I don't do it. Only thing is that at this point is seems to operate at a sort of sub-concious level.. silently influencing my thoughts in a certain direction during a hand.

Perceiving my image from each individual player's perspective, and understanding how each player is going to respond to it, is something I can continue to actively work on. What I mean by this is making sure that I understand that someone who I have decided is a nit who isn't capable of bluffing is not going to adjust to my having an extremely aggro image, by rebluffing, or bluffing ever. Though the guy next to him might make that type of adjustment, I need to make sure I keep how this factors into my decisions specific vs each individual opponent's perspective.

Well.. that's it. Feel free to respond with something you want to improve on as well as with something you think you do a good job with. It'll give everyone food for thought.

i guess it's too general to say that i need to continue thinking about situations and play better but that's basically all i can say for my own game. it's great that guys like you post specific thoughts on specific situations so that i can consider what you're saying and integrate it into my own play. poker skill seems to me like a big summation of understanding specific situations - although i guess a lot of people think poker skill is just a particular sort logic

i'd really focus on how people react to how you naturally are (obv the tilt issue too thats more important)

take me for example, when im playing, i look like the biggest shitter that ever shitted. i always look like im tilting and like im gunning for everyone... and most people take it personally and fight back. obviously good for me since i love bluff catching. obviously this is them just getting confused w/ my style of play, but how i present myself at the table multiplies the effect

u need to figure out how people in general perceive u... your play does have a lot to do with it but its not entirely that. figuring out the mixture and how people respond to it is very important. if u find this mixture isnt as profitable as it should be... changing your style of play to work well with how you present yourself is an option... but the better option would be to change how you conduct yourself at the table to go with your style of play

shit talking + lagtard/bluff catching is so so so so so good... but obviously live shit talking can be tricky / not something u would wanna do

super friendly + lagtard / bluffing a lot is also sooooooooooo good. just talk to people during hands in unimportant moments. like if its about to get folded to a laggy players button who opens a lot... jokingly shake your first or hold a stack of big chips over the betting line or something like that. he thinks ur just joking around having a good time trying to make him laugh, but the fact of the matter is that people are so much less likely to bluff if they crack a smile and break away from their "poker face".

for example @ foxwoods WPT it was right on the bubble. i had a great seat and a pretty good table. Nolan was actually on my table but i had position on him... and the other "lagtard" (he was a fake lagtard loser, nit life @ heart) was across the table from me. to my left were some players who would see flops etc, but were tight and def. afraid on the bubble

so the entire time what i did was i'd ignore them cuz they are folding and i'd nonstop joke with the players who would fight back. obv they know i open super light but i'd just keep joking at the fact that im fucking psycho and will go apeshit on them (dont exactly say this obv but i get the point across). then they're like "shit im OOP vs a good lagtard this tables so soft whats the point" FOLD thx for ur blinds & antes

thats more so for tournies unfortunately. it definitely applies to cash games a great deal, but you have to get more comfortable w/ talking during hands. if ur a lagtard and u can make people hate you its so great. there are plenty of other combinations that work and everyones style is unique to their personality / style of play. the one downfall in cashgames for my style is that many times i dont get to converse with other players about non poker stuff as often and i get bored at the tables easily, making me want to quit the game

bitch on a pension suck my dong

That sort of default/automatic assumptions people have about me due to my appearance or behavior isn't something I've put a ton of thought into. I'll have to think about how it effects their play against me. My personality/approach to life probably isn't going to work with a shit talking approach, I think, but I will definitely experiment with how these things might be effecting people's play against me.

Epic post Frinkx

People get very frustrated with my play and shit talking might just make them want to fight me back (/exactly what I want with lag)

At one casino i play at I definitely pull the lagtard + make everyone hate me live approach but at said casino i play the same people play together every day and it almost seems like they all team up on me and ive even felt like i was gonna get into some physical contact a few times.

There is another much larger casino i occasionally play at though where I do stuff and literally like once per trip someone asks me "Wow, do you play for a living? I've never seen anything like you". after i raised a straddle and a couple limpers with 35s to $30 pf and bet $100 on the flop with just a gutshot. They just look at me and say, how can you do that so confidently with no visual body language of anything other than strength.

So i guess in summation when i play with people who arent used to the way a game runs a lot i come off as some expert player and when i play the same retard nits who tried to tell me AK is a bad hand my image is way skewed to the biggest spewer ever.

there is DEFINITELY an art to table talk and other things. Even online several times ive gotten myself paid off by saying the right things, it's certainly something to work on.
