Yo.

I guess most of you have seen me post around in lowstakes or seen some of my uploaded hands. I have ONE big massive problem/leak in my game and I need help/advice to wipe it clean.... I sound like a clown posting this but I won't to improve it and its holding me back A LOT.

Ive been playing poker now since late August 08 and my current bankroll is $84.14 My story.

I started grinding 2/5/10/25nl quite succesfully, I turned my bankroll from $40 into $1120 by mid november and I was playing 50nl then all of sudden my poker world turned up side down and I haven't been able to cure it since. I went on sick downswing, from $1120 to around $700, playing 50nl until I dropped out, then sprialled down in 25nl and was on sick tilt and couldn't snap out of it. I ended up withdrawing my roll of around $700 and thought to myself, chill, watever $700.

I stopped playing poker, 1week later, I got staked with $20 to rebuild... which I did, I regrinded to around $440, ran bad, tilt kicked in, dropped down to $280ish, withdrew it in mad rage and stopped playing again. (leaving $20 in my account)

Around mid december, I got the feelings again, loaded up pt3/stars and started playing again, turned $20 into around $290, ran bad, sick tilted, withdrew again.

January 5th, I think to myself, OK. New year, I think I want to try and get back to where I have been in the past, ive railed 25nl/50nl regs and even give my advice and it works out quite sick good and stuff, but iam stuck in micro limits... I tried to grind again..... I got staked $20 from 50nl reg and he told me not to "withdraw again you fucking degen" kekekeekeke. I turned $20 into $200 in 4days playing 2/5nl, I go into 10nl, ACTUALLY run bad and drop down to $150, iam on tilt, I lose few more buyins in 5nl, I ship back the staker $40 for his troubles and now I am sat with $84.14. I haven't withdrew it

Iam a sick degen and need disclipine and help with running bad which tilts me so easily, its my biggest leak. I think I am comfortable to say that I have the skills and knowledge to do well, but tilting is destroying my game.

Here is my december/january life story, please leave any feedback, advice that could help me out, or just leave a comment saying quit poker -.-

Thanks

You come from a gaming background and are used to skill alone being enough to stay on top of your opponents. Unfortunately that's not the way it works in poker due to the luck aspect of the game and I've had the same issues. The other two key attributes (imo) are emotion/tilt control and bankroll management. Think of tilt control as a skill within itself, a skill you need to work on.

You are probably already playing better poker than a lot of micro players and now you need to work on your tilt. Every time you start a session, in fact every time you lose a hand be it from your bad play or your opponents bad play just focus on the fact that you are not going to tilt and will tilt less than your opponents because you are a better overall player than your opponents. If you take 5 beats in a row and you can feel your tilt about to explode just QUIT and come back later. There isn't an instantaneous solution, but with every session if you are mindful of decreasing your tilt you will reduce it over time until it's not even an issue.

I like to think about simple scenarios in the heat of the moment ie- a decent reg who is a slight winner with no tilt is going to make more money than a super talented player who is prone to monkey tilt every few days. Every time you don't tilt mentally reward yourself because you've basically made more money for yourself without even winning a pot.

Agree with Shad.

You can be a great poker player in terms of playing the cards, but that's not all of poker. Bankroll management, tilt control, even things like game selection and knowing when you can safely take shots are all a part of your poker game.

You have to set yourself a guideline for all of these. Ask yourself, "What do I do when I go under $XX? What do I do when I get 2 bad beats in a row?"

If you can't answer these questions, you have to figure something out.

you have some serious tilt issues that need to be fixed, this is usually caused by not playing on enough bi and adding extra stress on each hand, i mean cmon, no life decisions in a cashgame plz.

you fuckin tilt way to easy, your mentality is completely wrong for poker, you need to sit down and fucking want to win, and earn it, and if u feel tilted, QUIT UR FUCKIN SESSION FOR 20 Minutes!

You wrote that your a sick degen and you need discipline, sorry bud, thats something ONLY YOU can fix and nobody else, nor some magical fairy can come save you from, trust me your getting this information from someone whos walked down the same path

You either need to do one of a few things;

a. get a fuckin grip on ur game, stop trying so hard and never fuckin tilt, tilting is for losing retards. if u tilt, it means your doing something wrong, whether it be your mentality, if your playing a high variance style on a low variance roll, etc, so many reasons, but u gotta find out what it is and eliminate it immediately and think completely calm and logical through every single decision if you want to make it in the long run.

b. u can just start 24 tabling and play extremely high premium hands and pick on ppl in nit ring, i know ur a 6max player, but nit ring is very low variance (your variance currently is way to swingy - this may seem oh so good when u win alot in one session, but when u lose its gonna TILT your ass again)

c. tone it down on the 6max tables, i've played w/ you during december, i've played 6max up to nl1k, based on that i can say you are a talented player, although you overplay your hands, you stack off way too light in some situations. meh, actually your not too good, you do bet correctly though. idk i haven't seen you play too too much, so this judgement is biased so don't take offense.

d. get a coach and have him teach you how to play correctly.

e. go buy some books and spend a couple months working on your game theory and your br management rather than spending every second grinding, you'll make twice as much when u come back, definately worth it.

F. UCK OFF! (if u choose to)

all in all, your just a beginner, work hard, poker is not something you will achieve overnight, its something that takes TONS of hard work, dedication, and mental stability, as well as many other characteristics you don't need to worry about for playing micro stakes online.

Look at your BB/100, even including the downswings. You will find that it is still well acceptable. Swings are part of poker. I was watching your 10NL session, and saw how bad you ran, so I understand, but just look at the fact that you're still sustaining a very decent winrate despite those swings.

I can't tell you about tilt, since I do a fair amount of it myself, but I can only show you my history. I've had two 16 BI swings, one 18BI swing at SnGs, around 5 or so 7-10 BI swings, but I still managed to turn a 50 dollar loan into 5k~ in just half a year, and FWIW you've had a much faster start than I have. Just keep putting the hands in and focus your mind. Everytime you take a 4 BI swing, tell yourself that you've been on a 10, 15, 20 BI upswing since your last downswing, and you'll see how it's all okay.

I'm waiting for you to get to 25NL so we can both grind Supernova ^^

... because this is the sick game we play.
