I had a decent day yesterday making twice what i feel i need to make on a daily basis. That was good as I had been on a small downswing. Its funny how one good day can rebuild your confidence quite a bit. Also, I've started talking to another big razz player who also has a Sunday Million ft to his credit. He seems to be a pretty good guy and I think he's going to help me clean up my game a little bit. Which leads me to the next thing I want to talk about....
I started writing this blog yesterday for two reasons...
1) I have read plenty of blogs from the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Brian Townsend, etc. While I always enjoy reading about their daily escapades, I find it difficult to relate to Brian Townsend's recent 3 million dollar downswing. So, if others think the same way I do, this would give them at least one more person that is in a similar place in the game as they are to read about and compare themselves with.
2) While my wife has been 100% supportive of my attempt at a poker career, many others around me have questioned it. Once I have explained to them the responsible approach that I have taken with it, they usually view it in a better light. So, one reason I am writing this blog is to get to know you all, as I would think you all would be more apt to "root me on" than some of my friends/family have been. So.... one last time.... I have set aside multiple months worth of paychecks. If I have to dip into said paychecks to a level agreed upon by my wife and I, I am done with poker as a career and will move onto a job with a company that I already have lined up waiting for me if I need it.
I graduated high school on my 18th birthday. I graduated college exactly 4 years later and had a job lined up in teaching before I graduated. 3 weeks to the day after I graduated college, I got married. 3 weeks after that, I bought my first house. I had been at the same job ever since, though i was slowly disliking it more and more (nothing like having kids curse you out on a daily basis, then get rewarded for it by the administration). I tell you all this to point out that... in my 26 years, I haven't taken a single big chance in my life. So for the couple of you who feel the need to leave negative comments about my wanting to play for a career, let it be. I never understand why people want to be so negative towards others that belong to the same community. With things like the UIGEA and the negative stigma that many still place on poker, I would think that people would embrace the community of poker pla<x>yers and encourage each other rather than attack, attack, attack.
Ok, so this is my semi-rant.... How you guys doing? How are the kids?

Balzamon, that wasn't just meant for you bud. Just in general. The comment I made about the communities approach towards.... the community was aimed at the entire group of online poker players that are negative. Have I ever been that way towards other people? Sure. Should I have been. No. Wasn't just aimed at you. |
