In the past year or so I've been trying to make a more than usual effort to improve myself as a human being. I want to learn things than can lead myself towards a happier life, better understand of the people around me and to improve my self-awareness. I just came across this video and tought it would be a good idea to share it. Enjoy!

I believe the best way to feel better about yourself is simply to help other people. Viewing it like you have to improve yourself will easily lead to a road where you make yourself feel inadequate with who you already are.

I think that there are some clear character qualities that everyone can acquire or improve on that can help a lot to become a happier and better life. For example: try to be more understanding about what other people do/think.

The best way to feel better about yourself is to put others down. As their self esteem diminishes you absorb their powers eventually becoming immortal.

Are you serious?... i didnt even need to watch more than 5 secons from that video to know that girl has absolutely nothing to teach me about life.
There is no other route to self improvement than introspection, spend time alone, read philosophy maybe you should start with greek philosophy, question yourself, and as you start to gain knowledge and enlightenment it will be evident where you should go.
And another tip, dont take life advice from young pretty girls blogging they are rarely smart and you could spend that time watching way better videos

That was my reaction too. There isn't much of a difference between that and her video 'Deep Thoughts' honestly:
Although I didn't listen to the whole thing, but a person who can make a video like this can never have great advice for living. There are hundreds of people like her just making a lot of money making these lame humoristic videos because that's what YouTube promotes the most. A lot of them make more "serious" videos/vlogs as well because hey, it's just more attention and more money. YouTube just has very few popular intellectuals, you're usually better off looking at TEDTalks and Standford/other uni's videos. Also, I thought it was funny that tutz said fairly recently that he skipped reading my posts in serious discussions because they were too lengthy. I think it's pretty telling and you have a long road ahead of you if you want to "improve yourself" when you prefer this kind of entertainment and the lengthy "deep thoughts" of a corporate puppet-clown to actual philosophy. But it does make sense that he relates to her since tutz is a model and he's never had to learn how to think, just how to look good... exactly like this girl.
fuck I should just sell some of my Pokemon cards, if no one stakes that is what I will have to do - lostaccount

I don't want to start a new thread, so what philosophy books would you recommend? I don't know where to start but I know that I want to read some.
Edit: woops I mean't to quote baal, but you seem to be smart too so what would you recommend?
