Yeah baby, I officially pronounce myself as a winning player at NL10!
Bring it on NL25 -.-
All this while watching 4 vids from DC.
-Learned quite a bit about reverse implied odds
-Learned about necessity of assessing the board when we hit a drawing hand in relation to our implied odds
-Finally I fully understand how stove calculates % against ranges, and some basics on how to do it myself (e.g. possible combinations of cards, card removal etc.)
-Learned some forum etiquette, and that majority of people on forums think they know everything. I will try to avoid falling into that category myself from now on :o
-Also, learned a lot about an area I completely neglected so far - table and seat selections in relation to looseness/passivity/awareness/stacks of villains.
-Found out a statement that is incredibly true: 'The more you learn about poker, the more you realize you don't know'
-And polished some basics like what hands to play in position and against what villains etc.
So far watching vids/reading articles while playing 3-5 tables was a great experience for me. I don't really have to focus too much at NL10-NL50 to be a winning player, and I stopped having the feeling that my time is wasted when I don't win a single $$.
Hi there! Poker seems to be going well just lately. I just finished up my 2nd session of the day, finishing up about 2.6k, and I won about 400 or so in the first session despite being down about 6k and semi-tilted not long into the session. I've played about 2.6k hands in the last couple of days which is quite a lot for me and the swings have been pretty wild. I've not been doing well in terms of All in EV, worst of it was probably losing a 420bb pot AA vs QQ all in preflop against a fish who 4bet to 60big blinds and tanked before calling the shove, but I've still been having reasonable results as of late which is a good sign.
I'm beginning to enjoy poker once again, and it certainly helps that I'm bored of pretty much every game I own right now. StarCraft, WoW, Diablo2, some PS3 games, all of them are boring to me now and right now I'm playing poker with focus, I'm thinking about each situation more clearly than I have in pretty much anytime in the past year and it feels great.
Here are the stats and graph thus far for the month:
As you can see there are a few 200NL hands, that's because I made a 50 minute 4 tabling video on FTP. Currently I haven't added sound to it though so I probably won't be releasing it for a while but I've talked about releasing a video a few times in previous blogs in the past and never got around to it for whatever reason, but finally I've got one recorded, I just need to record audio over the top. Whenever I tried making them in the past I tried to do live audio with 4 tables and it was just too much action to talk about so now that I can actually record over the top, pause the video and talk about situations it should turn out pretty well when I get around to doing it.
Outside of poker I've pretty much been a hermit in the last month or so. Apart from my birthday on the 8th, a friends birthday a few days after that and going to watch K1 WGP Seoul yesterday I've done nothing but workout, poker, eat and sleep. I'm perfectly happy with that though as playing as much poker as possible and getting fitter are my main ambitions right now. I have missed a few days at the gym here and there, particularly on weekends or days when my girlfriend doesn't work, and we end up going into couch potato mode. I feel like I have definitely made a little bit of progress at the gym though, I feel like I've lost a little bit of fat and my cardio ability has improved a fair bit. In terms of size and strength I can't see any noticable gains, but I'm ok with that because the main focuses right now are fat loss and endurance. I haven't got my body composition retested because it hasn't quite been 1 month just yet but in a week or so I'll get that rechecked and have some numbers to compare myself then with myself 1 month ago and hopefully see that decent progress is being made numerically.
Time for some food now, hopefully next blog post I'll have that video done and uploaded and hopefully some continued success to report.
Entered the FT as short stack, but had this beauty to triple up on the bubble: + Show Spoiler +

Ty everyone who railed (even tho u guys brought me no luck at all)
just bought a brand new itouch from craigslist for $160, went home plugged it in and it doesnt read. It was factory sealed and everything... but for some reason when i connected it to 3 diff computers it can't recognize the USB and the itouch doesnt light up or anything at all. But when u press the box/home key it says its full battery life but im 95% sure when you connect it to computer theres like something wrong with the system so that its unrecognizable by comp.
if anyone knows how to fix this ill donate to you at tables
Hey if anyone plays these and wants to discuss them sometime pm me/post here/message me on aim (my ID is Fr8M9rF). I've been playing the 6.25 turbos and am a slight winner over a small sample, but wouldn't be surprised if I was a losing player in the longrun. If you are significantly better than me then I could pay you or give you a % of my profts or something lol.
I still haven't quite figured out the whole Life/Work/Poker balance and I always find myself having my brain out at some point.
The days where my brain doesn't work and I just look down at myself and ask wtf am I doing keep coming back. This month it seriously happened only during one day, but the one day totally fucked up my entire month, right at the beginning :D
Also, my Pimpchair didn't arrive yet
What to do? Well nothing is changing really. I have 11 months to get to NL200. I feel like my progress has stalled massively, and I hardly learn by cruising through NL10 and NL25 apart from self discipline. I decided to take focus away from playing back to the basics and maths of poker, I started watching a vid or reading an article, while having 3-4 tables open to avoid boredom and apply the concepts straight away.
I expect that it will take until 2010 before I get back to the pre-job stage where I was beating NL50 at 5+bb/100 and was taking shots at NL100.
As for my life update, my job is still fun, but as time passes I find myself having my weekly plan fuller and fuller. I even got to the stage that I plan my 35 hour week and I get 60 hours of work that has to be done.
With this regime I find it hard to focus on the main reason why I am at the job - to learn, see the big picture and apply my University learning to the working environment.
Its not easy to finish a hard 9hr day where you made 6 different tasks for various people/reporting and then think about it and write it down to a diary. What I usually want to do is go home, get drunk/watch tv/spew some money in pokerz/do some sexy time.
What I want to introduce is to roughly breakdown and plan not only my time at the job, but also my free time as it is becoming very scarce, especially when happens something like today - I woke up at 1pm after 14 hours of sleep.
September almost over... Been a while...by SpeedyJack, September 26
It's been a while since I've posted an update. After breaking even at NL50 for the better part of 2 months I've finally started to see some really serious improvement (aka heater), and I feel like I'm crushing the games pretty hard. I still make mistakes, but they are pretty few and far between now, especially compared to before. Unfortunately my coach who has been helping me all this time has to deal with RL issues so we had to end our deal. I feel I've learned a lot though, and the terms for early closure to the deal were definitely favorable for the student, so I didn't take too much of a hit.
Once my bankroll hits 30 buyins I'm going to start playing NL100, hopefully I can make a quick transition. I'd like to withdraw some money at some point while I'm playing NL100, probably before Christmas time, it would be my first realized gains from poker. I tend to look to far into the future with things, but long term my goal is to be at NL200 by next summer.
I've been looking forward to the poker club edzwoo started here at school for a while, I guess the first meeting is coming up next week. I'm going to be at practice right before it starts so I'll probably come in sweaty and covered in grass, but that's poker.
In the FML tilt department some stupid bitch crashed into me while we were on our bikes at an intersection. Here's a picture + Show Spoiler +
I have no idea where the fucking cunt was going, but she ruined my back tire so I'm gonna have to get a new one shipped out one of these days. Luckily only she got thrown off her bicycle, so there was some justice.
My nonshowdown is really nasty since I've been 6 tabling and I'm trying to figure out exactly what is changing in a mere 2 table difference, and I'm hoping I'm still playing a 2ptbb or better winning style while 6tabling. I really just want to grind out some hands over the next week so I can feel good about my roll and move to nl200 fulltime w/o having to look back (unless it turns out I suck ofc )
My goal is 4k hands/day for the next 5 days but I cut today short so that I could make sure to end on a highnote.. and most of the deepstacked fish were gone anyway.. I still feel bad about quitting tho.. there was this one sick fish 200+bb deep on 2 of my tables.. fuck lol
So baseball is going great, i hit 90 mph last thursday. I think its looking like i'll be a starter, so i couldn't be happier. In other news, i got tickets to the Dallas Cowboys first ever game in their new $1.1 billion stadium. (pics in the spoiler, it was fucking awesome) The tickets were "party plaza", and it was fucking sweet. I took a girl i met to the game, we had a great time.
Just thought i'd update ya'll!!! + Show Spoiler +
