One particular idiot yesterday chastised me for smoothcalling a raise with pocket aces in a live single-table SNG at Hawaiian Gardens. "NEVER slowplay aces", he declared. He babbled some faulty analysis of the hand, then left the table, as he no longer had any chips. Then he wandered back to berate me some more, and I explained that I was not actually interested in receiving a poker lesson from him. He went on to say "Well, every pro agrees with me," a spectacular claim. Irritated, I told him that couldn't be true, since I did not. He said I must not be a pro because he had never heard of me, but at this point he was satisfied with his trolling, and departed for good. Aside from being an abject douchebag, he also betrayed an inherent lack of understanding of what the word "professional" means.
I play poker for a living. I am not famous. I am not rich. I simply show a net profit when I play poker and it is adequate to cover my living expenses. If I ask what your profession is, whether you answer law clerk, dental hygienist, options trader, or fry cook, would it not be most peculiar if I stated you must be lying about what you do for a living, since I had never heard of you?
I suspect that NO poker pro would categorically say that you must NEVER slowplay pocket aces, although naturally pros at all levels hold varying degrees of opinions on the frequency with which such a play should be employed. If someone is making a living at poker and holds such a belief, I'd really like to have access to the games he or she is playing in.
One of my favorite movies is the awkwardly titled "White Men Can't Jump". Awkward not because the title isn't catchy, but because it's not really about basketball, and it's not about some white/black culture clash. It's about the life of a marginally successful hustler, a guy who is perpetually a fish out of water in the environment in which he's chosen to immerse himself to make a living, and the impact the lack of security and his questionable decision-making skills have on his personal relationships. Like Billy Hoyle, my life is strange, free, exhilarating, heartbreaking and frustrating.

I feel hysterical joy, jump around the room and go bore my gf with a 10 minute story about it.
Also, when I felt tired I didn't play 3days in a row, while reading the forums and reading about poker. 3DAYS IN A ROW, not a single hand, even though I had a lot of time for poker and wasn't doing anything else!
I have also been practising advice from The Right Speech episode, and edited countless posts here on LP and didn't post with negative tone in so many good 'spots'.
I still need a lot of work on this though - I posted a 3week old graph where I was hypertilting when I had flu with the intention of not be let down by the obvious berating posts and not replying once.
I still had a huge urge to 'defend myself' and some responses hit my ego, but I didn't respond apart from one joke post that I immediately deleted (it was defensive humour obv).
As you probably will know now, I have huge expectations of the final episode (which is about 70% longer than the others).
Afterwards I will just dl the series to my iPod and listen to it once again, and then every year or whenever I start feeling negative emotions in connection to poker.
If you guys don't have DC subscription, this should be the only reason to get it (and you can always go for the free trial and dl the whole series btw).

I would be in profit if I was a better player, though, so I will keep working on it best I can. I just don't feel like I have a lot of power very consistently over the past (brutal) couple of months. Still working on iiittttt.
There is still plenty of time left in the month and I have a sort of minimum goal for myself of 2k hands or 5 hours of play a day averaged out over the month. I had to cancel my prop bet with The Cleaner (sorry bro), but its for the best right now. Hopefully I can find 1 or 2 people to prop on most hands played at some time in Jan.
Been at my dad's since Wednesday night and I'm feeling better already. I already know its going to get a little bit boring though, since I'm like ~30min away from the city. Aside from acquiring discipline, does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent myself from looking @ my HEM graph etc until like I deliberately need/want to at like the end of the day or every couple days or something haha. I don't have issues checking my cashier but today for instance I checked my graph 800 hands into my session (was up 3.5bi woo) and I notice it had an effect on my judgement after that.
Whatup LP. Im new here and its officially my favorite site. Mostly because its the only poker site I can access at work (clearly a sign), but mostly because you guys are fukin hilarious and this site is the shizzznit. I stumbled upon this here site a few weeks ago and instantly fell in love/stopped working at work. That ROFL thread has kept me entertained for days, im not even sure I've done anything else for the past week, hope I get a big bonus this year. Anyway im starting this blog for 2 reasons. Reason 1 - gloating, i will gloat about my minor successes, and Reason 2 - bitching, i will bitch about bad luck keeping me from other minor successes. About Me - i work for a big invesetment bank here in NYC and I play poker pretty much everyday but I dont have all the time in the world so I maybe get in 5k hands a week. I started taking poker seriously a few months ago and I have built my 200 into roughly 2500 from 10NL to now 50NL. I was up to 3100 and took shots at 100NL, obviously the deck pooped on me and then laughed, rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat, here I am again at 50NL. I dk why I cant run good ONCE when I try to move up. Whateva. I find myself surrounded my monkeys but I constantly run into their good hands. They raise half their hands for an hour then wake up with KK when i have QQ. Bastards. Ive sort of accepted the fact that im lucky in life but not in poker, or maybe its just selective memory. Either way, ill keep grinding and see where it takes me.

So today went like complete shit. Busted wat i was working with. Ran like complete shit, sets over sets, every scare card that i bluffed at they hit, ect ect. Heres the graphs --
I started loosing up when my BR hit over 300, played like id normaly would if i had a BR to back it up, as u can see by my red line. Doesnt do much when u cant win a showdown tho..
-_- Got a 5 day weekend and nothin to play with now. Sounds stupid cause im new here but if anyone wants to short stake me for HU.. I got older graphs ect. Dont wana reveal myself here unless u pm me. If not then i guess ill have to wait till i get more money to deposit which might take a while.
