Having a really frustrating month with poker....

I would be in profit if I was a better player, though, so I will keep working on it best I can. I just don't feel like I have a lot of power very consistently over the past (brutal) couple of months. Still working on iiittttt.
There is still plenty of time left in the month and I have a sort of minimum goal for myself of 2k hands or 5 hours of play a day averaged out over the month. I had to cancel my prop bet with The Cleaner (sorry bro), but its for the best right now. Hopefully I can find 1 or 2 people to prop on most hands played at some time in Jan.
Been at my dad's since Wednesday night and I'm feeling better already. I already know its going to get a little bit boring though, since I'm like ~30min away from the city. Going to mix it up a bit and ride our go-cart and ATVs though.. Wish I had some friends out here aside from my Dad & Uncle (who is a lot of fun) though.
best of everything to all u foo's out there!
Oh yeah, I have a question and want some ideas:
Aside from acquiring discipline, does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent myself from looking @ my HEM graph etc until like I deliberately need/want to at like the end of the day or every couple days or something haha. I don't have issues checking my cashier but today for instance I checked my graph 800 hands into my session (was up 3.5bi woo) and I notice it had an effect on my judgement after that.

ask k2o4 about the not checking results thing. He's been doing that for a long time now. |

yah but I'm pretty sure he just doesn't do it and I seem to be failing at "just not doing it" (I shuld just suck it up!)
never know there might be a creative solution out there tho |

Just don't open HEM.
=)
Here's a tip. Make it the goal of the day for you to play but not check results. Even if it's only a 100 hand session. Just make it your goal to play and not check results till the next day. Once you've achieved that, build on it, and wait 2 days, etc.
Also you can build your discipline away from the poker table. As you go through regular daily activities, any chance you get to practice being disciplined take it and think in your head about how this is going to help you make money at poker. So that means when you KNOW you should put the dishes in the dishwasher and run it before going to bed, but you're feeling lazy and just wanna go lay down, be disciplined and just do it. Little things like that help build the "discipline" muscle and it truly does translate over to poker.

Ez exercise, and I do it for many things (play as many pots IP as possible, make at least 3 notes on any villain, take a 5minutes breathing brake every hour, don't get angry when suckout...)
Play a session not with winnings in your mind, but a simple target of not checking your graphs. Judge your session by that target and nothing else. Pots a blog about your huge fail if you look at hem before your target time/session has passed. Rinse and repeat. |

I have been doing this and will really continue to focus on it brett (exercising the discipline muscle ;p). TBH most of my life (as in since I was ~10 y/o) I've had sooooo much freedom and damn near zero direction, so my discipline isn't what it should be overall. In this regard I'm going to try to emulate my father (who is extremely disciplined in some ways that I'd like to be as well). I gotta be careful not to let a lot of his other lovable characteristics (like being a total dick sometimes) rub off on me as well tho
I'm also going to do the "goal of not checking results for an entire day" and really follow it.
YouGotGot omg that seems a little harsh.. plus what if I was into getting my balls stepped on? Then it'd be counter-productive.
TBH I'm feeling awesome atm and so long as nothing extreme happens (like I lose 30bi) I think I'm going to be in a really good place mentally over the rest of the month and we'll see if results show that. |

What helps me is just to play a gazillion tables so I don't have time to check HEM.
Other than that I really need to work on discipline as well. Like I made this work-out routine schedule that I have to do some work-out exercises three times a week and go running/swimming twice a week but it comes down to once a week for both ;(. |

I've finally gotten comfortable playing 8 upto 12 tables of 6m but I still manage to get into hem lol =)
The rest of today is the first day of my experiment.. not checking results til tomorrow! |

This is REALLY hard.. obv I have what seemed to be a really good session on the day I don't check lol.
I resorted to a quick glance at my cashier so 50% fail on my goal lol
(I think I won from 6-10bi)
Its going to be tempting but if I want to meet my goal each day I need to check hem, so I have shaped the window so I can only see upto hands/time played lol I met my goals today so happy camperrrrrrrrr |
