A few question for you live grinders out there I live in Henderson, NV and been playing online poker for a few years I just turned 21 and wanted to know if you guys had any advice or tips for me because I want to start playing live my questions:
What would be a good bankroll for 1/2 or 2/5?
What casinos would be the best to play at?
Which days are the best to play there?
Dallas Trip - Start of Baseballby TheTank, February 05
Tomorrow is the beginning of a new season. I am the #1 pitcher right now at my school, and am probably at the highest my career has ever been at. Our first game is near my home town, so all my family gets to watch me play. I couldn't be any happier right now. Everything is going well, even poker! I'm very blessed right now to be in the position that i am in.
Is AK the nuts preflop? Why? by Mikae, February 05
As I hail from the micro limit of poker, I don't understand why people think AK is the nuts preflop?
My friend said it was partly because of the fold equity you get if you jam it over a 4 bet or 4 bet it. Secondly, we're not exactly crushed unless we get it in against AA. Against KK, you still have ~30% equity so "its just like a coin toss!"
This doesn't click for me because noone folds to a jam in the micros after they 4 bet. So if there is no fold equity involved, do you still like to get it all in pre?
after looking at some HU sng variance numbers i can only really draw the conclusion that i'm currently a losing player on a losing streak..
i'm posting hands and reviewing my decisions a lot right now. i will try to post some hands where im sure of my decisions just to see if i should be so sure and ofcourse keep posting hands that give me difficulties.
i slept really bad last night. it's not the money i lost, cause i lost much larger amounts in short periods. it's not the time i have been losing as timewise i have only been losing for about 8 hours straight.
it's the fear i am a losing player in this format that keeps me awake. i hate being the fish.
i do have a strong feeling that i wasn't always a losing player, this trend is also resembled in the graph. it could be that i'm 2 tabling a lot more right now and that this is hurting me really bad. maybe i went on autopilot too much.
I just started grinding some 10+1 9 man sng's and was unsure about some shove/fold spots as im a SNG n00b. Help me out LP.

Lost almost 20BI past 40k hands or so at NL50.
Moving down to NL25 and will probably sacrifice February for my SN holiday month.
On the other hand today I am *really* starting to work on my health and life quality today properly(I was ill Monday - Thursday). I put a great deal of work into mindfulness and breathing techniques over the past two months, but that needs to be supported by nutrition, goal setting, exercise and relationships for me to to win at the game of life (i.e. do whatever I am doing to my maximum potential).
1) had another good session today, think i'm actually playing much better.
2) although i'm not close to playing nl 100; sorta confused at how better players move up. i feel as though everyone has the game figured. i guess in order to beat nl 50 all you really have to do is perfect v-betting and throw in an occasional bluff.
3) all regs should run below ev. if there exists regs and fish. if all regs are of equal skill (obv not true) then ev against all regs is 0 (ignore rake). therefore all money is won from fish. where the reg will in general always have the better cards, and will never put money in a spot where they are behind. therefore regs only engage in +ev spots against fish which only makes it impossible for a reg to suck out.
4) bah pretty uninteresting stuff.

need halp, free time thinkers unite!by Stroggos, February 04
So in order to help myself make more(some) profit i've come up with the idea to use acronyms for common notes that i write down while mass tabling. I'm sure some of you might already do this, so would be great to contribute. I need to use acronyms so i don't time out while typing.
Anyway so far i've got these:
too passive to bet missed draw MDNB
tiny bet size 3barreled with weak range TBWR
bet size indicator of hand strength BSIS
stabbed at untouched pot STAB
folded to pressure even though draws
didn't complete FTP
donk minbet with draw(and only draws/air) DMB
....and looking for more note acronyms if anyone could help :D
anyway i can chalk this up to variance?by piratematerial, February 04
So far i did really well in the $50 HU SNGs. on my laptop i have quite a few games. something like 50. in which i did well. for sure a 60-40 margin or something. i usually feel really confident with my play. i see quite some opponents play hands in ways postflop that i dont really like. and then today i started with all that confidence. in the GRAPH today started at the first time i hit $518, with some swings i was doing really well.
now i'll put the graph of all the games i have on my desktop here to give you an idea of what's going on.
and now a hundred fifty games later i just have no idea what to do? quit these games? as you can tell from the graph i am running really bad. it's actually hard to lose this fast if you are trying on purpose. but i think in HU sngs there isnt that much variance.
what's really bugging me is that by this time the # of games starts to be pretty reliable in saying i suck.
i can easily beat 100nl cash HU does anyone know how that translates to HU sng?
i'm not tilting. but i did rematch like 11 times against someone i thought really sucked but he went 6-6 against me so i still can't prove it and i rematched a guy a few times i won some relatively easy games against yesterday but he crushed me so i quit with my current confidence it didnt look so +EV anymore.
So I played in the NL5k game tonight (aka GBP 1/3) at the Vic in London. It was interesting; it's clearly still a soft game, but it was different from live games in the US. Maybe it was just variance, but it seemed fish here understood preflop raise-sizing, and the concept of taking the initiative. I saw fish iso-raising other fish light, nit-regs squeezing light, etc. It seems preflop is much more solved among the live crowd here than in the states. That said, people still played super-face-up post flop and spewed horribly with TPNK and the like. As an aside, playing poker not in your home currency means it feels like play-money and you don't care about winning or losing.
Hands of note:
-I iso a fish with J5cc (Jackson Five, wut wut), get min3bet from an okay-ish player in the sb, fish folds, I call (?) 130bbs deep. Fold to a 2/3 pot cbet on QJxc (?). Still not sure about this one.
-I cold 4bet a fish 95bb bb deep with KK, shove 50bb into like a 60bb pot on the flop and he folds.
-I open 98dd in MP, get calls out of the blinds. I cbet 2/3 on J64ss, get one call. I check back an 8h turn. River is the 8c, fishy player leads 1/2 pot. He has less than a PSR behind so I tank/shove, he calls with 75dd. I'm pretty sure he's bet/reluctantly-sighing-calling JTo on the river so I like my play.
-I iso with A4hh, get a cold caller (fish) and the original fish. 653ss flop, I lead 2/3, I get a call and a minshove. I call, other fish calls. 7s turn, fish 1 checks, I bet 1/3 pot. He calls. River Kd, he checks, I bet 1/2 pot, he calls. I win vs 73cc (sidepot fish) and 65o (guy who shoved).
-I win a lot of pots by iso-ing and c-betting.
Results:
+135 GBP from poker
-75 GBP from getting massaged most of the time I was there (such a sick service that I would pay for in just about any setting)
If I made an FTP account for my girlfriend, would I be able to deposit money into the account using my bank account, or would FTP ban the account or something?
