Bright Eyes' death by Oly, April 23

My car just failed it's MOT, so I decided to take it to the scrapyard today. However, this morning I owned a car who's only value was scrap so I thought I'd fuck it up. So Bright Eyes (every now and then it falls apart) was introduced to a large axe. See vids. And some spray paint. During this episode someone called the police. I can understand this as there were 3 crazed men in the street wrecking a car. The policewoman was the hottest police I have ever seen. I flirted some, but I was drunk from the night before so who knows how good it was. There is a picture of her that I'll post as soon as I get it from my mate's phone.

I got £183.05 for it. Nice.

Tilt by pokermatt, April 23

A poker player's worst enemy is himself and his emotions, not as his opponent's as some may be lead to believe. When a poker player has let his emotions take over his game, he is known as being on tilt and the dreaded tilt as decimated and taken many a person's bankroll over the years.

Tilt comes in many shapes and forms, including No Limit holdem but they all point to a person playing poker sub-optimally. When a player goes on tilt, they may start to play far too loose and aggressive and begin to make plays and calls that have a negative equity. This in turn puts them deeper into tilt and the cycle continues.

Another form of tilt, that is much more difficult to spot, is passive tilt. This type of tilt usually sees the player tighten up and stop playing as aggressively as they usually do such as folding when they would usually call or not chasing draws even when they have the correct odds to do so.

Preventing yourself from going on tilt is a very difficult thing to do and can only really be done through months, if not years, of practice. One measure you can put in place straight away is to have an adequate bankroll for the stakes you play, this way if you lose a hand that costs you a full stack the financial implications are not as severe as if you were playing with your entire worth at the table.

You also need to train yourself not to become results orientated and instead focus on making decisions that have a positive expectation in the long run. Just because your opponent hit his flush this time, despite you pricing him out of calling, but in the long term playing like that will cost him money and therefore make you money.

If you find yourself slipping into the dark depths of tilt the best action to take is to simply sit out for a few hands until your emotions are back in control. Even if it means you chill out and watch some Poker Videosinstead.

This is easier at a cash game where you can sit out immediately but more difficult in a tournament scenario. If you are going on tilt in a tournament, either step away from the table for a few minutes and calm down or simply say you will only play kings or aces in the next orbit or two and then revert back to your usual game.

First week of poker by blade55555, April 23

So started poker this week and was recommended to keep a blog. Started with 20$, went down to 15 playing 1.10$ tourney's then played a .10C tourney and won it which put me to 24. I then did some more 1.10$ rebuy which I just lost all those and went to 21$.

Played a couple sit n go tournaments that didn't go to well and put me to 18. Played a 2.20 tourney and if I hadn't made a stupid call all I needed was 10 more spots before I would have at least won 4 dollars and I had a good pot size but blew it like an idiot. So I end my first official week down 3 dollars and 90 Cents. The good thing about this is I have learned a lot the past few days when I have watched some video's on youtube, read a ton of articles and I can see where a lot of my flaws are.

I have been told to put more then the current amount of money I have but I don't have it so that to spare as I am just a senior in high school with a minimum wage job and can't afford to put more then 20$ in for now may be able to put another 10-15 in another week .

Hoping to put my new found knowledge to the test tomorrow and actually win some tournaments always feels good to win one even if you only get like 10$ .

Vent by LikeASet, April 23

Fucking newb stuck in micro I am. Need to start growing some man balls and stop acting like a bitch and put in the work and stop spewing. This rake pro shit is getting pretty boring.
Last summer was when I first tried to become good at poker. All I want is some pocket change nigguh.

-graduate from state college in 1 year
-year off with poker grinding and internships
-2 years MBA school
-Well paying enjoyable job while poker grinding as a hobby during my free time making around 20-30K year from just lolokers.

Poker, almost nothing as fun, addicting, and simple yet frustating, and complicated at the same time.

C'mon Jeebus, some change please, can a brotha get some change?

suppp by hiems, April 22

Its been 1 month without poker. Its sucked pretty hardcore. But I still gotta keep up the school grind so I'll remain poker free for the next month or so. I havn't played any poker in the past month and I have also avoided picking up any new books. Hasn't been easy! But I'm hanging in there.

Anyway I figured since my pokerstars ban just expired I might as well blog about an update of the past month.

Been thinking about various "Soft Skills" regarding poker that I want to implement.
I have been thinking about the game daily. And I have watched a couple of the HSP episodes and I randomly caught some poker on TV.

Anyway.

I wanted to write a bit about what I felt was the coolest discovery I had during this time.

Something that always stuck with me was the fact that Good players seem to have excellent memory when it comes to poker hands. That they can describe hands they played years ago in really vivid detail. The way they seem to describe their hands is usually much more detailed than that of a bad player"

I think I read it some time ago in Super System, or maybe just general poker articles. It seems just common knowledge that this is the case. Anyway I was reminded of this fact when I caught a video of BoostedJ describing to an interviewer about a wacky hand involving a misclick. The hand isnt quite important. But the detail in which he was able describe the hand was impressive to me.

So I began to think about this. "How is he able to so vividly recall his hand?"

Then I tried to recall the last hands I played. And if I could replay even one hand as vividly as Justin Smith had. And I realized that the only hand I could do this with was a hand where I had JJ on the button. I opened for 3x. The SB and BB called. The villain in question was the SB. Effective stacks were about 250 Big Blinds.
I had seen him flat his QQ preflop and take a check-call Check-fold line on an ace high flop earlier in the session. Anyway flop came QdJd8c. Blinds checked to me. I cbet about 3/4 of the pot. He insta shoved his 250 bb stack over.

Anyway the hand is super easy to remember. But I remembered it in decent detail. No other poker hand, could I just recollect from my memory as well as this one.

I then asked myself why this was the case...No one is going to figure this out but this hand is actually from one of my earlier blog posts. Its from a LIVE session I played with a couple of friends of mine.

I realized that the reason I could recollect this hand was because after the session I blogged about this particular hand and had to describe every detail about this hand by writing about it. And that was the reason why I was able to remember it so vividly.
If this is the case, then this miraculous "ability to remember" better than other people is not simply the function of god given talent. Rather, it might just be that "Naturals" just have a natural tendency to have certain natural behaviors that allow them to better remember than others. Maybe they discuss hands constantly with friends and tell them how the hand played out. Maybe some other factor. etc...

But the points to take are 1) Your ability to remember and describe hands better can be improved 2) Just posting hand histories don't do your review sessions justice. As the hand converter and hand history take away the learning you get by simply describing your own hand.

So If this is the case, than through work, you can improve your poker memory and the information you get by seeing poker hands play out in action.

Yeah so after that moment, I tried to apply the philosophy. I had two opportunities in the past month (like I said I havn't been playing poker).

The first was when the 25k Highrollers event at the Venetian randomly crawled up on ESPN2. Sweet! Poker. I had been so deprived...Anyway I decided to implement my discovery in action.

Whenever I used to watch poker on TV, I would just see the hand. And Id kinda be like "Okay that happened." And It just wouldnt be stimulating. Or maybe to better put it, the information of the events that transpired just didnt have a "First person feel" to it as it is relevant to me.

Anyway after each hand that was played I tried to mimic what I did on the JJ hand. I retold the story. Trying to capture details as vividly as possible. And really, I feel likes its a great exercise and habit to develop. For example there was a hand that daniel negreanu led out in a multiway pot with 56dd on a diamond board (Don't want to retell the hand)...But before I retold myself the hand I was like "Oh that just happened." But after I retold the hand to myself I was like "Oh wow. Daniel will lead out a pretty wide range on that board into four players." I mean...its not the most profound of discoveries. But its a great babystep in my development I felt.

SO...Yesterday night randomly my friends text me and we play a really small buy in sit and go tourney! Sweet! first time playing poker in a month!

BLAH. Anyway I was going to describe some of the realizations I had in this session//ask some questions. But THIS BLOG IS TOO LONG!! And will be DR almost certainly if I don't stop soon.

Anyway yeah. Posting a nice little update. Can't wait to be back at the tables.

-Also, requesting another 2 week ban from LP.

Drinkin cuz a sunburn! by Stim_Abuser, April 22

Another unbearable itch because of a sunburn. Aloe doesn't work. Actually think i get allergic reactions to the shit.

So imma do what i did last time i was unbearably itchy from one, im going to start drinking.

Sunburn itches are the fucking worst annoyance besides toothaches.

I think imma invite some friends over and start the night off by playing edward 40 hands!

Basically you tape 2 40's on your hands and cant take the tape off till they are gone. Makes pissing a real bitch.

[Micro] Need Poker Friends by NeVeR, April 22

I'm trying to be a winning player at 10NL and I think it would be a good idea to seek out some other players who are in the same boat. It will probably be a huge benefit to us if we can collaborate on going over hands and thinking about strategies. I'm willing to voice chat with skype to make things easier. If anyone is interested, please reply here or send me a PM.

[25nl] What do you do in this spot? by Mikae, April 22

20/20 reg with no reads raises 3.5xbb on CO (presumably to iso fish on BB).

You call button with QT.

Flop comes A68 with a flush draw (you do not have said flush draw)

Preflop raiser checks to you. What do you do? what is your plan on the turn?

Alternatively, what do you do if you have T8/underpairs etc instead?

Personally I like betting flop and probably 2 barreling if turn is a blank but i'm thinking that's a leak. What do you kids think?

New GF new Site! by Masaki, April 22

Life has been good, didn't play for like two months though been working on my new site that I just launched. I redirect http://tooyoungtogamble.com to http://greedygamble.com. Love my new gf she's amazing and posed for my new website :D.

Its good to have Adam and AJ back playing because exams are over. Its been getting pretty lonely just me playing. We’re planning to do a Greedy Gamble “Lock Down” where we’re not allowed to leave the house for a week. We’re probably going to do this sometime in June/July.

In poker, I’m still waiting for another big scores. Some small ones here and there but nothing too big. Today I final table bubbled the $109 6-max on FTP. Lost ATs vs A9o. Oh well! That’s Poker!

Yes, I finally received my triple crown on www.pocketfives.com and yes its beautiful. Though, I feel kinda pathetic winning it in small events, oh well still counts suckers!

I’m excited to keep playing poker as much as I can. Its a challenge to myself to see how much I can make this year if I can make the $100k again. I have a feeling I just had a really good year and this year it won’t be so great, but I’m trying to stay positive. So far this month things haven’t been going my way, but we’ll see I’m a very patient man.

Things that are coming up in my life, I’m finally getting my Mini 2nd week of May, and I’m going to Cuba third week of May, with my girl friend, and Speedybanana and his girl friend. Should be a great time! It’ll be nice to relax in the warm sun after playing poker for a month straight.

Need Plo Coach by Psychohawk, April 21

Hey LP,

I'm looking for a PLO Coach to teach me how to play 20-50bb(Preferably) or 40-100bb PLO, I tried looking on 2+2, but only found 2 and both were charging 200$ an hour which isn't what I'm looking to pay.

So with that in mind any1 know a decent coach for less than 100$/hour or who would coach for profit sharing (I can play 6+ hours a day)

Feel free to post here or send me a pm.

Makin' Veedayos by hoylemj, April 21

If you're interested in creating poker videos, showing how cool your desktop looks, or whatever, check out Screencast-O-Matic (if you're not using software like CamTasia already which can be a little resource intensive).

You can directly upload vids on their website, export them, or directly upload to YouTube in HD. Accounts are free. If you want to make a video that is longer than 15 minutes and get other Pro account features (not sure what those are), you can pay a one time fee of $5.

At Youtube of course, unless you're Martin Scorsese, they'll limit your uploads to 10 min. So for longer videos or, any video for that matter, sevenload seems to work best. The only limit there is 2.5GB and I'm pretty sure they are tossing out free ShamWows on the side, for a limited time only. They also do HD and have some good options for embedding.

If you have any other suggestions please let me know, thanks.
