Ballin tourneys.....not ballin ring by phexac, October 09

Since my last post, I worked on some technical aspects of tournament play, focusing mainly on conducting the right type of analysis during the hand. If my results are to be believed, I am doing something right.

This month I got 5th in one of the daily $55 50k Gtd., got 37th in the next one I played, made it into the money in Sunday Million (I went up to 50k chips pretty quickly and promptly went card dead. I maintained the stack for a while, but eventually the blinds were starting to catch up with me. I made my move and busted). I used FPP to buy in, so it was actually a decent cash since I did not pay the buyin fee. Was doing well in the Absolute 75k gtd until I made a dumb move and busted just under 30 short of making money. A few other minor cashes that aren't really worth mentioning. All in all, I am up about 3.5k in tourneys since the beginning of the month.

Now, while the tournaments went well, Stars clearly decided that owning tourneys meant I did not need good cards in ring. So far in October I'm down about 13 buyins over 17k hands at NL100. Not a big deal since that's a small portion of my roll, and my tournaments mean I am well up overall, buy fuckin' eh! Every single setup/bad beat that can happen, did happen. My personal favorite was flopping full house and getting owned by runner-runner royal.

I made a few mistakes in the process that I would not have made if I had been running better, but I would estimate they were responsible for 3 BIs at most. Generally I feel I am not tilting so there is no reason to take a break from ring.

My goal for the rest of the month is get my ring results back in the green for the month while playing some regular tournaments a few days a week. I just need to make sure that I keep up the logical analysis of my plays as I play ring. I have been working on my value bets and getting the most value out of my good hands. The testament to that is that I am 5 for 5 at tricking the pocket Aces to go all-in versus my Kings.

I can't beat NL2 by rgfdxm, October 09

Well, I think I can. But I didn't today. I'm a little under break-even for 1,000 hands. I started off down two buyins in the first 80 hands losing all-in with trip 8s on the turn vs a moron slow-playing AA when he hit an A on the river, then four hands later on another table I lost to AA again in a set over set.

My bankroll started at $50ish, from cashing two freerolls and selling 3m play chips to JohnnyBologna. After losing almost 1/5 of my roll in the first hundred hands, I decided playing full-stacked was a bad plan. I've since been buying in for $2, since that's 100BBs at these stakes anyway. 800 hands and several smaller coolers later, I'm back at $50.

Here are a couple of hands:
Losing my first two KK:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/291383
Villain was an overaggro fool who was raising about 1/3 of his hands preflop, and I checked the turn intending to shove, since I had check/folded to a couple of big turn bets of his after he called my cbets. This is the second time he stacked me by making a straight with trash.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/291392
Q7? r u srs?

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/291393
Biggest winning pot.

I feel like today's session was rough because I ran bad in a few big hands, but I did win back the $10. I'm sure I'm making lots of mistakes, but I've been reading LP for a few months and feel relatively confident. It's tough because I don't know anyone who plays poker so I don't really have anyone to talk to, but I hope to succeed like KwarK and the other NL2ers here and move up as I get better.

Weeeeee - my first +1k day ! by Gawuss, October 09

I don't know why but even when I was playing 2/4NL I didn't have a +1k day. Maybe I was too scared of losing my profits in a longer session?!
But today it happend. I finally did it :D I'm so happy about it. I hope this is how every day is gonna look like this month

After my second session I was up $967 for the day and wanted to make it $1k or more I was trying to win the rest on 100nl but managed to lose about $38 cause I got 3 outered by some shortstack after going all in on the flop with JJ. So here are my stats (notice: I didn't want any red numbers out there so I cut off the 100nl part just to make it look perfect ):

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/2783/myfirst1kdayiq1.jpg

Although, if anyone like the look of the red numbers in someone's PT stats here they are

And the graph obv

http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/7780/1kdaysgraphht4.jpg

Btw. you probably can see that there are some black lines near the words in the box (now I know you can't unless your graphic card is fucked up like mine lol ). Everything looks kind of blurred on my monitor. I'm almost sure it's because of the graphic card. Anyone had the same problem ? Would you recommend me some graphic card that I could buy ? Thanks in advance

Good luck to y'all, I hope every day of poker will look like that for you and me

POZDRO 600 (lol)

P.S. Here are 2 biggest pots won by me today:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/291241 - lol at this guy's hand

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/291240 - his insta pot bet on the flop looked strange.. so I did suck out on him lolz

Tournaments by NeillyJQ, October 09

After long consideration, I started grinding tournies inestead of cash, because of the skill level difference in my opponents.

Its been going well, I went 3/3 in the 5400 FPP Sunday million seat, theres a nice $600. Playing in all the tournies from $3 rebuys to the $109's.

So we'll see how this goes, if my roll hits 1k its back to NL50. (Its at $2750 right now)

GL everyone,
Ryan

New fish, advice welcome by KwarK, October 09

I'n pretty new to poker and want to improve quickly. I have poker tracker statistics but don't really know what they tell me about my play or what I'm doing wrong. So any comments are welcome. I hope 12k hands is a decent enough sample.

BRMA canceled by Sheetah, October 09

(For those who missed) About ten or so days ago I've got some crazy ideas and thought of a 'grand plan' to move up in stakes rapidly - at least it was properly named: Bank Roll Monkey Adventure.

At first I had little swings but pretty quickly moved to NL100, when sick cooler hit me. As it usually goes, hand in hand with Mrs Variance goes Mr Tilt and after (this time magnified) swings and swongs I'm back where I started: $80. During the operation people here couldn't stop berating me for my weird BR model (rightfully) and I kept promising to not give up.

However, after coming back to break even I took a good look at stats and accidentally clicked 'show in BB' or something like that. And the results were - Hero is like 3 buyins up. Wtf? My first impulse was that I probably accidentally picked different range of hands, but after rechecking there were no doubts: I was 3 buyins up into break even (!?) ... WHAT THE FUCK !?!?

Several minutes later after scratching my head trying to figure out the enigma it suddenly hit me: "Of course! Why didn't I think of that before!? It perfectly makes sense!".
Let me illustrate: imagine that you take for ex. 3 BI shot at NL100 and you lose and have to drop down to NL50. You are break even, right? BUT, those $300 were 'made' at NL50 which is 6 buyins. Even though you didn't win anything, technically you are 3 buyins up. And my BR model was based on taking 1 BI shots (ouch). Blinds are blinds, stacks are stacks, everything is proportional no matter how much $ BB really is. And this only the thing that matters. And this is by far the most important thing I learned from all this mess. Needless to say, BRMA is officially canceled.

After failing I decided to break a routine and turned to the game that I was always doing well at: limit holdem. Back 2+ years ago when I got addicted to poker, limit was the main game and naturally that was what I learned first. Then NL exploded and slowly I turned to NL, like everyone else especially since limit multitabling grinders learned preflop charts too well and most (used to be so juicy) low limit games turned into a nit-fest and it became obvious that with rakes as they were LL games became a massive EV- for anyone in it. As the time passed, all good limit players figured that out and one by one moved to NL. Surprisingly LHE was left 'off guard' - cause just a quick glance at 1/2 2/4 3/6 tables was like: "WOW, where have all the nits gone!?" So I sat in two 2/4 tables. After 15min I started to remember old limit-only lines like 'play', 'ram and jam' and after (pretty normal for limit) swinging a little I ended a night with solid ($100+) profit - with ABC-I'm-rusty-a-little game.

Not that I intend to move back to limit or something, NL is still my main game. But from now on I'll keep an eye at limit tables. There's plenty of good money waiting there.

In fact, the only reason I'm still at Stars are my FPP points, cause I need just a little more to get enough for two (for limit) awesome books:
1) Stox's "Winning in tough holdem games"
2) Chen's "Mathematics of poker"
Then I'll unload my Stars moneyz and combined with some other money from elsewhere, load my newly opened Rednines account and grind w/ rakeback.

JACKPOT AT A CASINO!! by MeaL, October 09

Haha it all started by my damn cousin (doomer) making me go to a casino on a school night which i didn't want go but what the hell he was gonna stake me so i said what the hell lets go. Waiting like 2 hours for Jorge Blasini to get to my house so we could leave but still he final got home we departed. The hole way up was raining it kinda suck we almost went down a hill and shit going up to the casino. Finally we got there we got there so early there were no players at all to play which it was pretty depressing. So finally after sleeping and talk shit at the NL hold'em. So finally after people started arriving we had people to play so we first thing was we wanted to play 1/2 but some dude there who he thought he was the best guy at poker saying he had friends that made 30k in 1 day and shit which is the normal shit everyone sayz but whatever we ignored him. Dealer the decided to make it 2/5 so bah we had no choice but to play with 200$ doomer stake us. So first hands for me they were terrible i lost like half of what i bought in with. Even thought i got AA against doomer which it was a pretty wild ride so anyway onto the jackpot well after like 14 hands or so i get A2 of diamonds which i love diamonds like 3 people limp the pot Flop is Qd10d6s so i was so happy with my A2 suited of diamonds. After He betting 10 into a 40 dollar pot well i was happy getting action since i was out of position and i didnt want him out of the pot i just flat call cause i was thinking to raise turn. Turn is J of diamonds wish i was like nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by this time i didn't know the casino had a jackpot i wasen't even aware. So i am like i check i got nuts i check -raise him all-in but he checks also so i am like hmm he dosen't have a flush i am doomed how i am gonna get this guys money so in river K of diamonds comes i am like what the hell!!! in my mind i am like i bet 25 he re-raises me after some time for like 50$ i am like wtf he could have 9 of diamonds or some shit so i was making sure i had the A of diamonds after that i took the time of my life to say all-in
for 35$ more he was like instant call i am like ok he has the 9 and he's owned i full stack someone wow big deal. When this dude next to me comes to me and say DUDE YOU JUST WON 8k i am like no i didn't i only won 250$ of him he's like no dude look at your side you just wont 8k there was this big sign that said JACKPOT 8,668 FOR ROYAL FLUSH NO LIMIT HOLD'EM TABLE i am like in shock and Jorge is jumping like you mother fucker baller haha my cousin is like wow big deal in till he remembered he stake me that he's gonna get some of it then he was like oh shit awesome i am like in shock also i didnt belive it in till supervisor of the casino called me and they were in the table making sure the deck was correctly and that they where no mistakes and stuff so i was like wow awesome so i walk home with 3.9k after going up to the casino with $60 to eat and gas. It a pretty awesome experience that it happends to all of us at one time hehe well thats my story hope you guys enjoy it GG AND TIME TO WASTE MONEY BALLER!!!! hehe BYE
