Generally for an NBA Fantasy League, the standard method of scoring is "rotisserie". Heres a good description of it...
Yahoo Rotisserie
In short, as opposed to an NFL League where youre usually playing someone heads up each weekend, in this league all your stats from your team are compared overall to every team in the league. Youre team is ranked in each statistical category compared to the other teams in your league. The teams with the highest combined rank in all categories win.
I created a Yahoo League. The very latest draft available on October 28th is 12:45 pm EST.
Still need others who want to play though. |

fantasy sports generally work this way:
you and the other teams in your fantasy league hold a draft before the real life season begins. you each select a certain amount of players, and put a roster together given those players. for basketball, you'd select say 6 guards, 6 forwards, and 4 centers (or something along those lines, depending how big the rosters are in your league)
you choose a starting lineup, again depending on the settings of your league.
then, you compete against other teams in your league to get the most points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, and so on
its basically like creating your own team, and trying to win based on compiling the best stats.
not sure if that makes any sense to the fantasy beginner, i tried to make it sort of easy |

Hello all!
The defending LP Fantasy Baseball Champion is here. =)
I've been really busy over the past few months launching a new business. But I think I can make some time for a fantasy basketball league.I dunno if you have anything setup but it seems from adam's post that things are not up yet. I don't want to hijack anything, but if you guys want a trusted and experienced commish to lead a league, I will gladly offer my services. |

TripSearchin, the league is setup through Yahoo for a draft October 28th at 12:45 pm. I will pm those who have expressed interest for their email later on tonight or in the morning so i can invite you to the league. If you want to pm in the meantime with your email address i will send you an invite.
I guess the league will be $50 unless we have enough to do $100.
My name in the Football League is "Paul Magriels Grill".
The only issue to resolve is who will hold the money. I have asked somebody and am waiting to get it settled. |

I can also go over various scoring systems and the pros and cons. The scoring system and the roster structure has a huge effect on the gameplay of the league.
Personally, I'd recommend a roto style scoring system with the following categories:
FG%, FT%, 3PTs, points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and turnovers. Standard 9 category roto is the most popular format. In roto, you add up the totals in each category for the entire season.
Head to head is another format where you play 1 team for a certain week and you add up the totals for just that week. You start fresh each week against a new opponent.
The appeal of head to head for many players is that you get to start over new each week and that you get to "play" against another team head to head each week. Personally, I think standard roto is a better format because the best team will win at the end of the season while in head to head, the best team will often finish in second or third. That is because you can dominate and go undefeated for the entire season in head to head, but if your team is outperformed in just the last week, then you will lose.
I compare it to a turbo SNG where you just need to survive until the blinds get high and win a few flips. In head to head, you just need to squeak into the playoffs and then the season basically comes down to a super small sample size luckfest.
Also, some leagues omit some categories like TO or the percentages. In a 9 category roto league, people need to remember that each category is equally important. Therefore, players that score a lot but shoot poor percentages and or turn the ball over frequently are overvalued. Players that shoot well and do moderately well in all categories but don't score that much are often undervalued.
