October fun by Fayth, October 31

So, i definitely didn't run good, i probably didn't play my A game all the time, and probably some tilt after a sick amount of bad beats. I'm still up though because i've made close to 8000$ of rakeback. I'll probably just play around 2/4 for the beginning of november and if that goes well i'm going to move back up, i have more than enough money to play higher but i just want to run good again, or at least play better.

I'll set my goal for november to 90k hands, and at least 15k profit. Good luck to me! =P!

pokertoberfest by spets1, October 31

so October is over!

pretty shitty results.
Altho I did well on NL25 over a small sample of hands.

I think i might try to stick to NL25 till 2k cos the buyin is 200BB anyway which is 50 bux and all regulars buyin with 50.

Im still on AP cos neteller is being gay. Hopefully they wont take my money and run.

november goals... by whamm!, October 31

well after that brutal "ithinkicanmoveupto100nl" weekend, i went down to 50nl again and had pretty much almost gone on monkey tilt for getting bad beats. i'm happy to say i still have a comfortable roll for 100nl, i think ill try to grind it out till i reach like 50buyins, then take a shot at 100nl again, so as not to be too worried about bet sizes and the sheer amount of money involved(i got so used to 25 and 50nl lol). im really quite happy with the little amount of success ive had since october's heater, and i'm planning to keep my winnings intact long enough so that i keep moving up gradually, no more 25bi cts shit, that guy's insanely good so what works for poker prodigys never really applies to players like me who just wanna make a little money on the side and have fun playing. rb and deposit bonus helps a lot here, so i think ill be around 4300usd by next week when it the perks are added to my account. then by next week ill probably be making another 700 grinding 50nl so i guess it's safe to say that ill be at 100nl next week anyway. oh man, poker has been such a ride since ive started almost 2 years ago, ive never won shit since only this june then swung for like 2 months not knowing where to go and how to go about it. this site and the people helps a lot, not to mention some threads are just soooo funny, i laugh my ass off here alone like some crazy obssessed poker addict. peace out.

back on track by PplusAD, October 31

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/713/nl20noiqja1.jpg

SO I almost made this month back into green after
- 450 $ ( 18 buy ins NL25) start at the beginnig.
played kinda tight though
normally i am more like 24/19 but everyone at my tables was like 40/22
and so i tightend up a bit.

I think its pretty interesting how someones point of view concerning Poker changes with experience

Well first u start with Poker as a total newb and think its all skill ( Like Starcraft, Chess , or basketball)
then u have your first little downswings and start to think Poker is all luck ...

you either quit there or go on playing simply by seeing others making insane money out of it. ( LPers mostly ^^)

then u make all the money you lost back and add some more
-> now you think poker is skill + luck but skill is far more important and you will make money no matter how bad you run just by outplaying opponents

Then u hit your first really big downswing that just seems to not end and you start to think :

Blah
luck is far more important in Poker than skill.
you cant win , no matter how skilled you are when u get unlucky. the ammount of skill involved is marginal compared to the amount of luck involved

After the months pass you realize that its probably a combination of both in a strange kind of relationship.

the longer you play and the better u get u realize there is so much skill involved in Poker , yet luck factor is easily able to destroy all your skill no matter how big your edge is.

Its somehow an odd concept that a player 20 times better than another player could lose to him a good amount of hands. So if he could lose , then how can it be possible that he is 20x times better ?
well looking at the skill involved in Poker it clearly is possible that someone reaches about 20 times the skill of another player.

Dont know if you get what i am trying to say.
It seems kinda impossible to the human mind that a game in which luck is such a big part involves so much skill ( yet it does)
And it also seems kinda impossible that a game with so much skill involved can be completely destroyed by luck over a decent sample size ( yet thats exaclty what happens every now and then )

THis is not a complain or anything this is just what i have been thinking lately.
Poker is strange

Finally i have a Hand for lachlan_fearn about what i meant with position abuse.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=306238

And the nice comment by the person i abused.
with some unimportant trash talk to tilt him a bit ^^

speedhart: stupid pair raiser
PplusAD: lol what is stupid in 3 betting PP blind vs blind ?
PplusAD: PP = better then AK
PplusAD: and u would 3 bet AK ? right
speedhart: ur great fish
speedhart: lol

some hands later almost same scenario
and he again has to fold

speedhart: lucker
speedhart: only pairs to raise

well he probably has a note on me now
" big fish "

GL ALL

And special thanks to all the LP guys
who motivate the lowtakes grinders to keep going after a downswing !

love u

System and order by DaveGrigo, October 31

Hey guys, my name is David. I'm 21 year old student from Czech Rep. Frankly I don't know how to start this very first post of another mindless boring poker blog. I can only tell you a little bit about me, my poker intentions and so on. Let’s get started.

Poker and me

I've always known there's card game called Poker, propably because I've seen Five-card draw in some movie. It didn't interest me at all. Anyway I'm interested in webdesign and one day I found this webdesign portofolio. I clicked on some image thumbnail and immediately saw this green-white website. It was a poker website. I think you're getting the picture. :D I learned little more about poker and it looked pretty interesting.

Long story short. Spring 07 - I started playing on i4poker with 5 euro from promotion. I played only freerolls, grinded it up to $30 and went to play NL10 FR (lowest stakes on Boss Media network). I built my bankroll up to $100 (now I know it was pretty lucky run).

So I had $100 and decided why not give tournament try. I chose $3000 guaranteed with $20+$2 buy-in. Weird thing is I was aware of my poor bankroll managment and yet I ignored everything I learned. However I finished second for $900. The luck of newbie, I suppose.

I moved up to NL25 and lost about $400, won about $200. It was upside down. Pretty wild sessions. I don't think it was a total donk play, I was just willing to sacrifice my whole stack on a coin-flip situations (ok it was a donk play) and of course sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t.

After few months of no progess I've decided I should either quit or dramatically change my approach. So I moved my bankroll to Stars, bought Poker tracker, signed up for cardrunners and lp.net. As for the poker - the main focus is to play as many hands as I can, discuss and analyze my play.

This whole thing will be some kind of log. Every sunday I'll write weekly review – basically I'll summarize my mistakes, founded leaks, improvements etc. Don't expect any whining or hot-run posts. Just this reviews.

Poker and university

Right now university is priority number one. I study electrical engineering and it requires a lot of home preparation and so on. That's why I can't play as many hands as I want to. I've always consider poker as a hobby and I still do. Maybe one day it will be my second source of income.

My goals

November:
- play 20k hands
- discuss hand on forums
- exploit leaks, improve my game (well I guess this is permanent one for everybody)

long term:
- build bankroll up to $4000 before the end of summer semester (7 months from now) and start playing NL100

My game on Stars

I've been playing on Stars for few days something like 13/10/3 (FR NL25), but it's small sample. It's pretty nitty, but I can't imagine myself playing 15/13 or more. I don't know what's optimal for these stakes.

I also can't decide between 9-max and 6-max. I feel much more comfortable on 9-max. So far I played FR only. I don't know how could switching to 6-max possibly influence my game and progress.

If you read the whole post I owe you an apology for boring story and my czenglish. First summary comming up on Sunday. Stay tuned.

October Results by Roto, October 31

This month I decided to take a break from cash games, and try to learn SNGS. So far it's been going very well, as I doubled my bankroll in about 2 weeks. I've been playing the $3.40s on Pokerstars and I'll hopefully be at the $6.50s within the next week.

My brother also made about $70 bucks with the 100grand SAT STT turbos which is also included on the graph below.

I started playing the $3.40s at around game 215

Whos right me or my brother by TheBeachGirL, October 31

He was sitting next to me on the other computer when I sad "set set set" so he glances over watches the hand when the river hit I said "shit" and he said "huh"? Then I said I gotta check so that sucks and he said "shove" " Or atleast value bet" I replied with " There only gonna call a bet with a straight" anyways I value bet and the guy folded, but my brother said I should shoved all in rather then making that river bet because the hands he could have at this point are more likley to call a shove rather then my value bet, and I just dont understand the concept of betting here when I think we only get called when were beat and I completley dont understand how a player would be more likley to fold to a bet rather then a allin.

So whos right me or my brother?

October by Critterer, October 31

Okay well october was a decent month. Some sick downswings during it but i recovered and ended up nicely. Shame about my last session of the month being a -4 buyin one since it kinda makes my graph look less pretty. Nevermind.

I made some profit, and got my ipod via FPP's so definately a decent month. I feel i'm able to beat nl25 very effectively and once i iron out a few spews ill be able to totally crush the limit. I should really stop cashing out so i can make an effort to move up since i've been playing nl25 for like ever, but o well.

Resultz:

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/9877/octobertt2.jpg

Ive currently got like $500 on stars and like $100 on rednines, and like another $100 floatin about on other sites.

November goals:

1) Dont cash out anything
2) Play 30k hands
3) Earn goldstar on stars
4) Start taking shots at nl50 towards end of month (sooner if BR permitted). I will take shots at nl50 once i get to $1000 and i will take a 5 buyin shot and move back down at 750.
5) Win the goldstar freeroll at the end of the month :D

GL at the tables all.

all over again. by bongky, October 31

im gonna start trying again with the online poker, i play @ipoker network.
i used to live in peru but now i live in asuncion-paraguay, business matters.
i have a goal to reach, i am gonna try to reach 20 or 30k in less than a year.
my br now is only 87$ im gonna start next monday cause they are gonna install internet at my place that day.
I know that with dedication, tight playing @micro-limits and a good bankroll management im gonna get there.
i work in my office since 8am to 5pm so i only would have time to make two 2.5 - 3 hours session every day except weekends that im gonna be able to take more time to play.
I´m looking forward to begin, i know that with my friend locoo´s help (who is playing really well) and all of the LP community members that would like to help me with my hands and stuff, im gonna grow my level and reach the main goal.
i was playing NL20 for a while but for playing in not appropiate conditions (not in my pc, short sessions, etc) i went down to my actual br and limit (NL5)
gonna do my best! and try it really hard! =)

My story by T8Suited, October 31

The newbie circle of death
A really good article from another poker site

Consider me a newbie @ 100NL full ring
I was lucky I lost so fucking little during my low points, when I was open-limping 72s in MP

Lesson learned
At a cheap price

From now on
1) Play fewer tables -- I can't handle more than 6
2) Table select better -- put away my ego and target the fish
3) Play like I care about the money
