Getting a Laptop: Hp or Dell?by Ja hunta, February 16
Dell is having a sale on Inspirons so I checked those out and have selected the Inspiron 1720. With some modifications it comes to about $1300.
I also looked at HP's dv9700t and with some mods. that comes about to be 1300 as well.
Problems I am having in deciding are:
1. Inspiron comes with 3gb mem vs Hp's 2gb.
2. Are the problems with Vista that annoying? So if XP is available i should take it?
3. I can get a bit more resolution on Hp's screen.
4. Do the battery sizes make a noticeable difference (6cells vs 8 cells etc)?
Every other spec stays the same.. processor, graphic card, hard drive etc.
Also tonight its the rematch between Pavlik and Taylor. Im expecting a very good fight and i think Taylor is gonna bring his A game even though he lost the best trainer in boxing, Emanuel Stuart. Im still rooting for Pavlik though.
The decreased winrate on NL50 can be attributed to one big motherf*cking losing session and a sub-optimal style for the tables. I was far too loose preflop when I did not have position or having calling stations to my left - thus my c-bets were called relentlessly... when that happens to often it gets quite frustrating and I am not able to play my A-Game. Just TAGGing along with 18/12 seems to be the best style. Worked out perfectly today.
I have also experimented with different aggression levels. Mega-aggro does not work at all on NL50 for me. Dobule barrels get called, you get minraised alot with BS or floated all the time. Just patiently waiting for a hand seems to be the way to go.
Keep up the grind guys.
iDDa.

The break even stretchby Forrest Gump, February 16
Since mid December I was experiencing bad days at poker. In part becouse the games at party became more tough and dont know why. So I had to start playing again against the NL200 regulars and decide to start making money from them and not the superfishes. It was pretty hard and stressfull at the beggining, becouse I was rollercoasting with my money and the game flow its a little different. But this times were good to review my game. To learn a lot about my leaks and other's. I experienced some NL400 as well wich is good (2 coolers helped my downswing)
Now Im playing mainly at stars NL200 and I think I improved my game enough to stop losing, trying to mix it up my sessions with one day table select and some others just play against a table with not very strong TAGs
I hope today is the end of my large break even stretch (and fucking bad beats/coolers)
Just thought I'd give an update from my last post, since I think I've finally fixed what I was doing wrong. Found that I was playing too loose and generally giving away money, so I tried recentering my play this week and regaining my discipline. I think I still have a while to go before I feel confident about every decision I make, but I'm at least consistently making money now Here's my graph of my hands this week:
So, I just got back from the bar and wanted a quick session. Two tabling for about 2 hours and this is what happened. I played pretty solid ABC poker and make a few sick calls. I found out some of my leaks which I fixed. One of which was my tendencies to favor post flop play too much and afraid to put my money in PF. However, I figured out that from time to time you have to make take that risk and jsut say fuck it. So here is a graph of my small ass session.
Not that the music would be so good, but the lyrics are SICK if you can understand them

Also, today's results:
Last but not least, a shoutout to Fraser for actually BUSTING the donk that took over 6 buyins on nl100 HU from me yesterday (maybe more, not really sure). Nicely done, sir, enjoy your bucks ;p
I was travelling home by train. There was a sympatic girl accompanying me. It seemed she was my girlfriend in that dream, although I don't have a girlfriend in reality I think she actually wasn't anyone I know either. Anyway, we're in the waiting room of a train station and we encounter my former chess coach there. He's travelling to attend a chess tournament and although it's someplace else, he'll be taking the same train. I haven't seen him in a year or two, so I'm kind of surprised and we start chatting. He asks me what I'm doing.
I tell him:
"I'm into investments".
"Ah, stock market or something like that?"
I hesitate.
"Umm, not really. I play poker", I say finally.
"Ah, that's pretty bad", he responds.
I'm confused. I realise he misunderstood and thinks that instead of playing chess - a game of skill and intellect, I'm using my free time to play a game of chance and degeneracy, gambling away my hard-earned cash. Maybe he even thinks I'm an addict.
I don't wan't him to think that. I want to explain to him how things really are. But at that moment, we hear a train arriving.
"That must be our train", my girlfriend says.
We need to catch it, so we start to run. I'm pretty sure we can talk about everything onboard. We arrive just on time, but realise that it's not our train. My coach asks the conductor:
"Where the hell is the train to Brno? I'm not gonna make it this way."
"It's delayed", the response is. "Where are you going actually?"
"Zlin."
"Oh, you can take this train then. You just need to change along the way."
"Good, thanks."
My coach quickly rushes in the train which is about to leave any second. The door closes and I don't see him anymore. The train makes a loud noise, starts to pick up on speed and is gone.
THE END
Possibly there would be more to this, but when this happened, Zulit (&*#@%^) woke me up. Also, as my dreams are usually very detailed (I can remember the exact look of the train station, the train, what the people had on.. etc.), there was some less important stuff (like conversations with my gf), that I don't remember that well as I'm writing this (it's already night).
I'm pretty sure the events in this dream mean something (they may transition to some real life concerns etc.) and I think I've probably even figured out most of it. Maybe I'll ask an expert to tell me more Hopefully this is also a prophecy, saying that I'll meet a nice chick soon. ;p
Let me preface all of this with one big point - I definitely am much worse at poker than I thought I was!
At the same time, I do still think I am a winning player. Just harder to win without the heater at your back.
After about 3 weeks of consistent losses with occasional winning spikes it is clear that I need to do something to turn this around and it won't just happen by itself. Of course a heater would be great, but I think I'm playing poorly overall and even when I get a bit of a heater I don't take full advantage of it. This has lead me to my new approach which I started today.
Super short sessions. That's the ticket. I realized that in the past I played my best while 4 tabling, so I've gone back to that. I also am doing very short sessions, 250 hands to 500. If I hit 500 I get ready to quit. Usually I quit before 500. I try and do lots of these short sessions throughout the day, with nice breaks in between to eat, exercise, maybe watch an episode of a good TV show or read up on some forums. Also study hands or watch CR vids.
I realized that I am by far my own worst enemy. I have been tilting much more easily but haven't been getting away as quickly as I used to. Now I'm trying to end the sessions before I get lethargic and before too many bad beats can hit me and break down my anti-tilt defenses. And if the session goes especially painfully before 500 I'm out real quick.
So far it seems to be going ok. I think I'm still not playing my best poker, but the amount of mistakes has drastically reduced. I'm also picking up on betting patterns and timing tells a lot better and making some good plays using them. I still feel like a noob in 3bet pots but it's getting better, and there's been some good help from people on the medium stakes forums about them.
The other thing is that I haven't looked at my BR all day. I'm avoiding looking at how much I've won/lost and trying to strictly focus on good decisions/bad decisions. It's nice walking away from these sessions feeling good or bad solely dependent on how I played rather than how I did monetarily. I'm just going to put full faith in the fact that if I keep playing well I will win money. Checking my BR to see minor wins or big losses after long sessions was just killing my moral.
Thanks to everyone who's been giving advice and help. Couldn't do this without you and the support of LP.net!
EVERY FUCKIN FRIDAY NIGHT ITS A FUCKIN BUNCH OF SOFT TABLES FILLED WITH FISH. EVERY TIME I GET A FUCKIN HAND I EITHER GET 2 OUTERED OR THEY PICK UP A FUCKIN BETTER HAND. FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS ARE PROLLY MY FUCKIN BIGGEST LOSING DAYS CUZ I JUST GET SUCKED OUT ON EVERYTIME I PLAY. SUPPOSE TO BE UP 4K BUT IM STUCK -1K TONIGHT
i also lost a lot of small and med pots coz i had a shitton of ak hands which did not hit shit most times on flop and turn only to c/f river - didnt have the balls to fire that third bullet tho haha.
playing another session maybe two more 1k hands each later to see if i can win today. no complaints tho, stars has been pretty fair so far.
update:
crazy swingy sessions follow, then finally i break even after 3200 hands, playing one last session. prolly a lower limit like 25nl just to get the bonus or something, can't really win, when the cards just won't let you, so breaking even is fine by me

Took $1400 from a fish, still got owned anyway.by PanoRaMa, February 15
Was on a particularly juicy table and completely dismantled some fish who was calling any two on the flop. Eventually took 1.4k from him, but got thrashed on other tables and ended down 1.3k. I guess that kind of means I suck at poker, but at least I'm better than that one guy? Unfortunate session to have after recovering from a fever, especially since I won't be able to play much this weekend and all. February has still been overall pretty bad, so I'm hoping in this latter half I'm able to make some huge strides (which probably requires I play at least 25k hands or something).
Fun hands:

This was pretty much the only big pot I actually won all day, against said fish. I later developed the read that he only check/raises flops with monster hands so in hindsight I don't know if I would've called, but this was earlier in the session so I called here (basically he's never raising a draw here imo).
And the losers:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/385787
typical set over set, dude was 22/13 or whatever and was actually a pretty huge fish (limps AA utg and never puts any money into the pot postflop). Played 300 hands on this table and after this hand I just got up and left, standard.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/385788
I really don't know about this hand, I think you could argue for a river fold against the c/r because I don't think he's checkraising here with worse unless he has 86s and that's a stretch. I doubt even AK plays this way too. w/e nice play by him
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/385789
Standard spot where you try to mix it up and end up stacking yourself because of it. I slowplay AA preflop because villain's range is pretty wide at this point but I also think I lose too much if I just 4bet and scare off parts of his range like TT+, AK (which he actually might be inclined to shove). On many flops I have pretty decent manueverability, and I thought this would be a very good spot for me to try to end up repping my hand as like 88 or something.

This guy is apparently one of the top razz players on FTP. Regardless he plays this hand pretty awful and somehow gets paid anyway. 4bet pots are ridiculously uncool :[

Well, I hate to say it but this might be the first time in SSNL/MSNL that I've been owned pretty badly. I think I recognize this guy's name from a while ago, so presumably he moved up to higher stakes and just came back down for whatever reason. In any case I was completely outplayed and I have to give credit where it's due. I don't particularly hate my play because almost nobody at ftp 400nl is conceivably capable of doing this without some sick history (which we didn't really have).
Very confident in my FR game right now, and will probably move to NL200 FR soonish.
(btw, what BR would you recommend starting nl200? 5k?)
Pretty sure my laggier than usual FR style will translate well to 6 max and conversely if/when I do move back to FR it can only help my postflop skills.
I've only watched a few 6max vids like CTS' super agro style, peachy and 1-2 of brian's.
