I decided to start my blog a while ago because I was going through some rough times poker-wise. I felt I was a winning player, just that I was running pretty terribly, yadda yadda. Well, you know that saying "you'll always run worse than you've ever imagined?" Well, either that's true or I'm no longer as good as I once thought I was.
I've tried to keep this blog interesting and regularly updated, since as far as I know we don't have that many MSNL players here (it's usually skewed to a lot of micro stakes players and a handful of high stakes players who have all the attention). I've tried to establish an image here of an aspiring MSNL winner, and I think over the past couple months some of you have enjoyed my "essays", fun hands, etc.
Well now I'm going to swallow my pride and take full humility in the fact that March 2008 was the worst month of my life, as not only had I lost 6k flipping (running absolutely terrible), but I also managed to somehow break even at 400nl for 30,000 hands. You'd have to believe me when I say this is unprecedented in my career. Here's my March graph:
Now that that's over with, I want to look forward to better things. I'm currently getting coaching from one of the most prolific and talented players in the world, the one and only ae mother fucking jones. I used to believe my preflop play was amongst the strongest at my limits at FTP, and that was pretty much the only reason why I was winning since I kinda suck balls postflop, but wow, the amount of information I've learned just about preflop so far from aejones has been extraordinary. I'm very very excited about getting coaching from him and it's going to do a lot for me, guaranteed.
I've stuck with my PT database since January of 07, when I first started grinding. I don't know why I never bothered to make a new one, but it's finally time to end it. I'm making a new database now, to commemorate the end of my year and a half of learning, struggling, and retarded degenerate flipping. This new database will begin logging hands in what I hope to be the middle of my 400nl career, and be with me as I hope to journey into higher stakes. All I'm really doing is making a new PT DB, but I feel very excited about this for some reason. This is my new start. And with that start, I promise no overexcessive degenerate flipping .
So, farewell to March 08, the absolute worst month of my life, both in poker and real life (although I did get my new car that month). Here's to a curbstomp of April .
P.S. I also want to shoot a link over to TL, thedeadhaji's "Top 100 Game Music" thread: http://teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=68847
For those of you that played the old Japanese RPGs and stuff and enjoyed them, you'll want to check this out, it makes for good background music while you're grinding if anything .
Till the last two days when i took a shot at 100NL and lost some money, after that i continued to spew 10 buyins of NL50 in about 2700 hands. So yeah there goes all my winnings.
Addressing concerns from my last blog, see below (subtle bump omg, it was only up for like 3hrs)
It was really hard, I actually accidentally checked my session results today (which ended good apparently)
I'm not overly concerned about going busto since I have a decent roll for 1/2, but I am concerned about going insane :/
I have bad eyes, so I dont really see my br when I add chips :D
Bejamin, I do find that the temporary results (meaning, at that moment during session) that it affects my play. If I'm down like 5 buyins I play way too overly aggressive to try and win back pots to win it back, which is bad. When I'm down a small bit I tend to nit it up. Same when I have a small/big winning day too. So I felt this is one way to addressing my result orientedness
But yah, this does seem like it will be hard to do...
I haven't been as tilted as today for a loooooong time. Not because I lost 4 buyins cause that's super standard but got sick setups and sick beats against sick fish and it all happened while taking a shot at nl600 in the span of like 20 mins. Nothing tilts me more I guess. I literally felt like pwning my laptop. Luckily I managed to quit pretty fast so at least my ability to quit is decent.
Gotta start preparing for my exams as well, bleh. Hopefully I'll manage to study a bit tommorow. And I'm planning on going out only once this week.
I'm getting a Wii soon. Any suggestions what is a must-have? Like which games, which controllers etc.

I started out running like shit but recovered later on. In between this time I took a break so I didn't play that many hands. Hopefully in April I can play more and run good.
So I've been back playing a couple of K hands on 2/4€ and 3/6$ and the last two days I've actually won a bit too. I think I might be slightly up overall during this hands and up like 2k the last two days or so. I ran bad in the beginning but kinda made up for that yesterday. The thing is that even though I had a nice run last time I played these limits I feel that I'm soooo much better now. I actually see basic mistakes in pretty much all the regs I've played. I think I was to bad to notice the last time I played these games. I'm making more big bluffs, making kinda tight folds in some spots and overall I feel that I adjust much better to table conditions. A couple of months watching CR and Leggopoker videos has really helped me to look at the game from a different point of view and I'm a far superior hand reader to the Dusty of old. I've also shaped up my pre-flop game and I feel much more at ease post flop. I'm really happy about this and this time I might actually be able to stay here for a while .
I'm also pretty close to pwning up a rake race so badly that I'll get a 60% rakeback for life. That'd be pretty sweet.
I plan on not checking my cashier/PT ring game stats for 1 week or 2 weeks at a time. Goal is to play my best and not let results (positive or negative) affect me.
So as I've pointed out in my previous blog entries, I started out playing micro cash the last few weeks after having played SNGs for a few months. I feel I'm still definetely not a good player in any respect, I learn more and more every day either from watching others play, reading LP or just playing my own hands.
So I played NL2 even though I was well rolled for NL5 (Arguably NL10) just to start getting the feel of 6max cashgames and grinded out $30 there in 2 days or something easy (I usually only play 4 tables and only play 2hr sessions, but usually 2-3 sessions a day).
After moving up to NL5 I was feeling confident after making 3 buy-ins at NL5 in my first session (sitting with $5, not $10). After that session things changed drastically, was veryyyyy swingy, pretty much broke even for a few days, took some ridiculous beats like these; + Show Spoiler +

Anyway I definetely played bad for a few days hence the swingy graph, I was pretty down over losing so many buy-ins so quickly, but then I took 2 days off and came back completely refreshed and confident and played to the best of my abilities, and while it was still swingy, I was happy with how I played. I won some pretty nice pots like these; + Show Spoiler +

Anyway posting this graph is kinda tough for me, I hate looking bad It's extremely swingy and I really think I can be a very good player because I'm so hard on myself, I can really relate to kimseongchan's blog found here - http://kimseongchan.liquidpoker.net/
Anyway here is my graph, shoutouts to Ftrunkz for being a balla and driving me to the local freerolls, lachlan_fearn for keeping me sane throughout my 3am 4buyin losses, KeanuReaver for staking me for 10x 4/180s and any other micro stakes players on LP
edit: Any input on this hand would be really good, was fairly sure he was on the flushdraw but couldn't get him off it, is he just a nl25 donk that can't let go of a draw? In retrospect I would have normally raised to $2.20 on the turn I think + Show Spoiler +

March was just meh. I broke even in poker and didn't make it through group stage in a countrywide billiards tournament . Thank god the month is over.
My plans for April: play 60k hands (have never done it before - 55k is my personal best), play a lot of pool and start going to the gym finally (gotta drop some kilograms, 93 (205 pounds) doesn't sound or look nice :D).
