Should i be worried by Floofy, April 07

so as i a kid i was never very active and my health wasnt that great

anyways, about a week ago i had a nightmare. it was something stupid, i was outside and something scary ran after me, so i entered my house and closed the door just on time

this scenario repeated itself a few times i think. then i wake up with an insane hearth rate, like 160+. i think my body was on top of my arm or something. then heart rate goes back to normal, and i fall asleep

actually im not even 100% sure this happened it could have been a dream

what does this means

Hungover Weekend by k2o4, April 07

I've promised myself that I'm avoiding alcohol for a week and this weekend is gonna be about being active outdoors and overall healthy living, cause that was the plan for this weekend and alcohol killed it!

Anyway, Friday was standard and Saturday in the morning I did my free lesson with rnbsalsa which went pretty well. Despite his horrible rep here on LP I found him to be a nice and helpful guy and agreed with him on a lot of philosophies about poker. I'm not convinced he's a super gosu leet pwnerer or anything like that, but he seemed competent and I always like talking poker with that type of person. He made a vid so you can watch that if you're interested (dl it here... oddly it's pretty embarassing cause I'm yapping away about my poker history and ideas and I feel totally unqualified to be listened to by anyone).

I'll write a bit more about the lesson at the bottom, but for now let's ramble about other stuff. Like what happened this weekend...

After the lesson I took my GF to the mall cause she got her tax return and was eager to go shopping. Luckily the store of choice was Victoria's Secret, so it was win-win for both of us. She gets sexy lingerie, I get to walk around the store and not look like a total perv. Since I'm here with a GF I'm now a nice boyfriend instead of a horny bastard. This was my first time ever being in a victoria's secret, although I have stopped and stared at the pictures of the models in the front windows many times in my life.

We left the mall and met up with a friend of mine for dinner and beer at this great brewery in downtown Boulder on Pearl St. I grew up drinking 40's of MGD, Bud and Coors which we stole from the grocery store or gas station, just trying to get drunk, and because of that I never really cared for beer. I got old enough to drink legally and suddenly I found myself tasting real beer in local breweries with FLAVOR to it rather than just yellow piss water with just enough alcohol content to get you drunk if you pounded 2 40's down in 20 minutes. I love good beer now and anytime I get a chance to go out and have a burger and a beer, I'm in heaven.

2 other friends showed up and we started the pub crawl which is the standard Saturday night event in downtown boulder. The weird thing is that it turns into a high school reunion cause there's always SOMEONE from school in town and they hit the same bars we do. So we played pool with HS friends and my GF got to meet a bunch of people - the guy that my HS sweetheart cheated on me with, who eventually cheated on him and we became good friends over the bond of our mutual hatred for her; an ex-girlfriend from 8th grade who became a best friend for a while. The night ended in the usual stupidity of "let's go to bobby's house for the after party" and only 1/3 of the people actually coming over.... we ended up dropping off 2 of the 4 people riding in our car at their own houses instead of the party house. There was plenty of female drama and bitching at each other about why people weren't staying out to party. Such fun.... this is why I rarely go out.

We were planning to go to yoga with some friends Sunday morning, but being up till 4am with plenty of alcohol in the system didn't vibe well with a 9:30am yoga class. I woke up at 9 the next day and said "fuck this", went back to bed and woke up at noon. My GF and I went out to Subway for the 5 dollar foot long deal and then drove up to the mountains to have a picnic. Again, the plan was to go hiking, but the hangover killed that. At the same time I didn't want to miss my chance to get outdoors since I spend all week behind a computer. Here are a few pics:

Came home from the picnic and passed out around 3pm and woke up @ 9pm. Realized that I was scheduled to play a Bo7 Random Vs Random match for the title of "most leet pimp evar". So I hunted down my friend and lost while putting up a good fight. I WILL GET YOU LUEIGI, IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO! I had to make a post about how awesome he was since I lost, which you can see here. Then I watched "The Outsiders" with my GF, which was a pretty good flick. I loved the book as a kid and it was fun to see it as a movie. Diane Lane was young and hot, and Tom Cruise was a fucking dirty greeseball weirdo. It was amazing how many famous faces were in that flick - hell it even had the Karate Kid! Flashback to my youth for sure!

Man, I'm rambling like crazy right now. Anyway, that was my weekend. But I wanted to say a bit more about that lesson I had. Overall I think the best part about it was that he had a bit of a plan on how to approach it. I don't get very much out of sweat sessions, especially if I'm 4 tabling. If you start talking too much about a concept or a hand, you get distracted. So I like how he set it up to spend time just talking overall poker background/ideas first, then a 1 table sweat session (though I think 2 would be better) and then time to just ask Q's and discuss hands and shit afterwards. I think that's definitely a good formula, at least for me. I learn well that way. I am the type of guy who needs to ask a million questions.

As far as rnbsalsa goes as a person, I went into the lesson with very low expectations due to all the posts around the forums. I personally thought that he was overly advertising his site and found it to be pretty annoying. I didn't think his articles were anything special. And I think that if he's gonna be posting on LP he should be doing it as an LP member, not a pokerzion member trying to get more traffic. At the same time I get where he's coming from and that he wants to have a successful site and all that jazz. My overall impression of him right now is that he is a nice guy who took a shitty approach to getting involved in the LP community. I think if he just quit all forms of advertising PZ and just participated in the community as a regular guy he'd do pretty well here. But of course now he's in a serious hole cause of how he introduced himself to LP, and people don't give second chances easily and first impressions last a long time, all that shit. So he'll probably have a hard time in the LP community for a while. But I personally am not gonna be part of his hater crowd as long as he stops advertising PZ, which he pretty much has. Yeah this lesson thing and the video of it are pretty much advertising for him, but hell it's also not so bad for new players since they can probably learn a thing or two for free from the vid.

God I'm on such a rambling rant today - my head is not on straight at all. I need to blog more often so it all doesn't build up on me.

Anyway, there was more stuff I wanted to talk about but I need to eat and play more poker. I'm gonna start posting more often now that the secret is out - yes, if you watch the vid you will learn how I was able to go on a horrible downswing that started as variance and turned into tilt, and go from 30 buyins for NL200 to 20 buyins for NL50. The pain. I've been pretty embarrassed about it and ashamed to post in here about results I've had since going back down to the microstakes. I was planning to get back to NL100 and then start posting in the blog again. Lol, pretty sad eh?

So it's time to own up...

Hello everybody. My name is k2o4 and I'm a spewaholic... I spewed my BR due to tilt and didn't move down fast enough, putting myself in a huge hole. I'm playing NL50 again with some NL25 for confidence boosts / BR boosts when I do poorly. I'm recovering and back to playing with nice large BR requirements and now understand that moving down quickly is about more than just protecting the BR, but it also helps you get your head on straight sooner cause of the easier competition and the fact that the losses don't hurt so much. I'll be posting a lot more in the near future now that the truth is out!

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a184/Keanu_Reaver/tourneywin.jpg

not a huge score or anything but it's nice to start the month off this way. i feel like i've made enormous improvements in my tourney game over the past few months. i really hope i can develop into a great all around tourney player so i don't have to worry about taking extended breaks from cash games.

anyway, two funnest hands from the FT:

Ryyl is pretty much a tournament player trying to learn cash games. This is more of a beginner video since I had to teach him a lot of the fundamentals of poker.

Down like 6-7bi today, a couple of setups, a bad call, a fair amount of lost coinflips and getting owned my Hansen's slowplayed AA. Whatever, still up a bit for the month so I shouldn't complain.

April yes? by SakiSaki, April 07

My money has been stuck in a neteller cashout(wtf) for almost a week but I finally got it yesterday so I have been playing alot. God Im such a poker addict, after just one week I was really fucking dying to play. I also feel like this break might have helped me in alot of ways. I have gotten some hunger to play which is sweet, I also feel more motivated than ever to just grindgrindgrind.

Due to this Ive been playing 6-max again, its been a while since I did cause I did poorly and just hated it the last few sessions I played. Anyways, so far so good, the competition is weak, I really enjoy playing it again and I think Im playing well.

Being in a grinding mindset Ive decided to aim for 2k hands a day. This would put me at about 50k hands for the month which is the minimum amount of hands I want to get in. This might sound like very little to some of you but considering I very rarely play more than 4 tables and I have school aswell it will keep me busy.

neways, results for April so far:

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/6559/april1jq6.jpg

Last but not least I wanna recommend a movie. I saw the trailer for this one when I was in New York City last year but couldnt remember the name. I finally found it. Heres the trailer:

Basicly, the movie revolves around youth culture, music and the anti war movement during the sixties. All of this acompanied by remade songs by the Beatles performed in a musical kind of way. Now I generally hate musicals and Im allergic to "artsy" movies and this definitely fits into that category. Being a life long beatles fan I was also kinda afaid that they would butcher a ton of my favorite songs.

However, this movie really pulls it off. Most of the songs are really well performed("let it be" and "happiness is a warm gun" WOW!) And it doesnt feel near as pretentious as It could have.

Hard to fail when making a movie arround songs from the best band ever huh?

Anyways, watch it and thank/kill me later.

Piz

I took a week long vacation to visit some friends in NYC last month and the break felt very beneficial. Upon returning, I've found myself regaining some measure of interest in continuing to improve as a player. This = good.

microstakes adventures by whamm!, April 07

took a break from poker and went back to my microstakes roots. 24 tabling 25nl is fun when you have a big ass monitor so ive noticed. my decisions for every table are more clear and final, no more robotic hand reflex then shout omg after hehe. ptracker kinda fucked me up with my gay vista os installed in my new comp, so results here fall kind of short. im planning on making this month my sickest in terms of heaters in 25nl, i hope the doomswitch is turned off now so i can proceed to 100nl shortly after. i think i made like 10bi today though...

btw: does anyone know why i have like a 5 digit spacing in my pokertracker? im using vista starter(puke)

Bellagio: Event #1 - Brb Quitting Life by JonnyCosMo, April 07

Arrived in Vegas last night and played a 5 hour 5/10 session. I thought I played pretty well for the most part, just couldn't pick up anything big. Got KK cracked, QQ cracked, and basically won the blinds with the AA I picked up. Most of the money I got came in some sweet bluffs than I ran. Ended the session down $175 which is kind of like breaking even, so that's fine. Came back up to my room to find RaiNKhaN, Rekrul, FrinkX, Lisa, Raidan909, and 2 of Raidan's friends playing chinese for $20 a point. RaiNKhaN and FrinkX were teaming up to set up there hand. I watched while waiting for room service to bring my pizza. I don't get it Chinese is so weird.

Woke up this morning to play the $2k event, and as expected I ran like absolute god with my table draw. We started at 4,000 starting stacks, and I chipped up to 8,000 in the first hour. The second hour was a little cold and I dropped to 6,500. Coming back from the first break I picked up KK and 100/200 and got all-in vs Q8 on a J-9-3 board. Turn 4, river 2, sick hold for my double up. That got me up to about 13,000 then I had my epic suck out (as expected once again): Blinds were 100/200 and Mark Seif was playing like a fucking monkey. Earlier he called 2,200 chips from his 5,000 stack with 76s and flopped an open ended draw, then got there to double up. He started the hand with 9,000 and limped under the gun. Someone else limps in middle position and I once again pick up KK and pop it to 1,000. Mark Seif snap calls and the other guy calls as well. Flop comes 5c-6d-7d, and they both check to me as I bet 2500. Mark Seif shoves for his last 8,000 total and the other guy folds. I fucking snap call / beat his ass into the pot and tabled KK. He turns over 66... fucking unreal how these live donks run sometimes. Oh wait, turn KING ship it!!! River bricked and I busted out Mark Seif on a two outer. He is probably going to go whine to his other live donk friends about how some internet kid 2 outted him without realizing how bad of a leak his preflop call is. Whatever, that gets me up to 20k+ at 100/200 w 25 antes. A few orbits later another lagtard moron decides it's a good time to donate yet another 10,000 chips to my stack as he ships in 76 on a J-7-4 board vs my AJ. After another sick hold I'm up to 32,000. Good game sir.

From here it was it was cruise control. Blinds moved up to 200/400, when there were about 90 some players left, and it was during this level that there was a bust out at one of the tables almost once or twice every minute. I basically moved up and down between 26,000-34,000 during this time playing only small pots and keeping myself above average stack in chips. Finally at the end of the 300/600 level I decided to play some long ball vs some tight young asian kid to my right. Button limped, the asian kid in the sb sensed weakness and made it 3k. I flat called in the big blind with QTo / the intention to shit all over him. The button folds, and flop came down 3-5-9 w 2 hearts. Asian kid lead for 5,500 and I make it 14,000. He tanks for a while then folds and I proceed to table the hand face up. Probably a mistake on my part, since I was winning almost every pot without showdown and playing a real risk free game up til that point. Meh, so with 27 players left we reshuffled tables and all the players that saw the bluff were moved elsewhere. I had a 40,000 stack and made decided to make an ackward bluff where I had Ad9d and flopped 4c-9s-Qh in a 4 way pot. It was checked to the aggressive player in position who bet 1/2 pot. I called thinking A9 was the best hand in this spot and everyone else folded. Turn came down a 7h and I checked and the guy checked behind. River came a 2h, and I checked and he tanked for a bit then bet 6,000 into a 17,000+ pot which seemed to make sense with something like a QX hand. I figured he wasnt thinking hard enough to make a value bet with worse than A9 here, and didn't have a set or two pair type hand. He also seemed to be giving me a lot of respect for the most part, so I decided to turn the A9 into a bluff and check/raised river to 18,000. He insta shoved, and I puked and folded as he showed Ah5h for the backdoor nut flush. Gross That knocked me down to about 16,000 at 400/800 blinds. From there I played some ninja style short stack poker until we got to the bubble...

19 players left, the bubble lasts a fucking solid 45 minutes. Jean Robert Bellende, who talked like a moron, was at my table and seemed to be playing a surprising good bubble game. He was very aggressive, picking up pot after pot and putting a lot of pressure on the obvious nits who were just waiting to squeeze into the money. Men the Master was on life support at like 6,000 in chips... and basically was folding every hand, giving himself no shot to steal blinds / double up etc. The most unreal nit ever. And then I watch this happen: The old guy to my right has 10,000 at the start of this hand, it gets folded to the button who opens for 2200, and this old guy flat calls AKo from the big blind. Flop comes 9-9-4 and he fucking check-folds. 2 hands later he proceeds to pick up JJ and doubled through A8 back up to 18,000. No justice in this game. Finally with blinds increased to 600/1200, UTG raises to 3600, and I look down at TT in the big blind and re-ship my last 16,000 all-in. UTG tanks for a while then calls and tables AKo. HOOOOOLLLDDDD!!! .... But it was not to be this time. Flop came down A-4-5, turn 8, river 3 and I went out as the bubble boy in 19th place. /wrists, brb jumping off a bridge...

...k back. Tomorrow is the $2500 event, hoping for a little better luck than today. :-P
