Moving Out and Moving On To Vegasby JonnyCosMo, May 29
So today I move out of my apartment. I told the cleaning lady that I'd be packed up and all my stuff would be out by 2:00pm. Guess what! It's almost 12:00pm and I haven't done shit today. I have to haul my bed, desk, bike, surfboard, chair, and a few boxes of clothes over to the storage unit I rented. But I woke up at 7:00am this morning in a very sad mood ... I going to miss being in San Diego so much. I had such a fun year, and even though I know Vegas is going to be a blast for the next 2 months, I really am going to miss chilling with all my friends down here. WSOP for me starts on Saturday with the $1500 NLHE donk fest. Weeeee~!! That should be interesting. I'll try to keep my blog updated on a daily basis with pictures (once I get my camera fixed since it's having some lens issues right now).
RiKD finally gave me back my camera the other night and I got more pictures from our fun night out at Stingaree. Check out these gems:
I'm going to start posting everyday, i fucked this up once by clicking off the page after writing an essay so im going to keep it short. anyway the idea is to post my 2 biggest losing + winning hands every day and also hands were i was confused, also stats for the day. Stats for today, 2nl, 3.5k hands, 12 hours played:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/454719 - 55/35, I thought this was badly played untill I posted it and saw some of other peoples thoughts. I'm still not sure about it, generally when reraised by a player like this they seem to have 2 pair+ but i just couldnt fold the overpair
infact i changed my mind, posting 2 winning/losing is dumb as theyre either set rapes or coolers.. I'll post only confusing hands in future posts, good luck all
so I haven't been posting or playing poker much recently. family stuff for the most part as my mom had a major surgery and I've been helping her through it.
in any case, I figure I'd make a small write up on one of the best UFC's ever. Only going to comment on the fights I saw.
Dong Hyun Kim vs Jason Tan - Kim by TKO round 3.
I really didn't know either of these two fighters but Kim came into the fight undefeated at 9-0-1 with all but one of his fights in the DEEP promotion which is, if anything, competitive. So I figure he's probably pretty good and he sure didn't disappoint. He was comfortable and crisp on the feet and absolutely ruinous (good adjective?) on the ground. He would do almost all of his damage on the ground with elbows, either from half guard, side mount, or full mount. Finally in the third round, after just a ton of accumulated damage, tan would be knocked out from a few elbows on the ground.
Yoshiyuki Yoshida vs War machine - Yoshida by anaconda choke round 1.
Very clever way of locking up an anaconda choke. I really don't think he was trying for a guillotine initially I just don't think he wanted to roll over the arm, the north south setup was very very clearly an anaconda. Yoshida did very well otherwise in what little we got to see of him with excellent control in the clinch and judo that I'm sure made Fox wet . He's also got a win over Kikuchi so, like Kim, I'm eager to see what he'll end up doing in the UFC.
Machida vs Ortiz - Machida by UD (3x 30-27).
If it wasn't clear mma has passed Ortiz up, this should leave no doubt. He's big and strong, well rounded and athletic and there was a time that that combination alone would win you a UFC championship. Machida fought very well with an excellent gameplan and Ortiz wasn't able to bully him around so he spent most of the three rounds doing a whole lot of nothing. Near the end of the third Machida landed a vicious knee to the ribs and was almost able to finish tito but tito is tough and he recovered almost locking up a triangle but he wasn't able to hold it. For tito, he's had a great career and I would not be upset at all for this to be his last fight. I really hope he doesn't end up fighting against bums for another 5 years.
Wandy vs Jardine - Wandy by KO round 1.
I remember being really torn on this fight. On one hand, Jardine has been doing very well since losing to Houston and Wandy seems over the hill. On the other hand, this matchup greatly favors Wandy, especially considering the fighters he lost to prior. Chuck and Mirko are both counter punchers while Jardine is more of a toe-to-toe brawler much in the same way Rampage is (I remember me and fox talking about chuck vs jardine in this way, Jardine is basically a poorman's rampage). While Wandy clearly struggles against counter punchers that are willing to keep him at a distance, he absolutely devours brawlers. My friend I was watching the fights with asked me who I thought would win and I told him a few years ago Wandy would crush Jardine but now I didn't know. Silly me for doubting. In typical wandy fashion, he ends up landing 3 looping hooks before jardine is even able to hit the ground. Wandy then pounced on him and smashed him into oblivion.
B.J. Penn vs Sherk - Penn by TKO round 3.
Sherk starts off the match with a somewhat half hearted takedown attempt and over the next 15 minutes he wouldn't attempt another takedown at all. Now, I've said it before, BJ penn is easily the best fighter I've ever seen at using his bjj as takedown defense but the most intriguing thing about this fight was that this was something sherk would have to overcome anyway. Nevertheless, the rest of the fight would be spent standing and while sherk was landing he wasn't doing any damage and penn was ripping him apart with solid jabs and right straights. This fight reminded me a lot about Fox's old blog post about footwork and how guys like sherk struggle to do damage with their strikes because they have terrible footwork (probably from years of wrestling). This was clearly the difference in the fight and it really began showing not only on their faces but as the fight continued sherk was getting more and more tense and panicky while bj penn couldn't have looked more comfortable. Finally at the end of the third round, bj pushes sherk back and in sheer frustration sherk bounces off the cage figuring bj was too far to do anything about it. Well, he wasn't, and he placed a beautiful flying knee right on sherks noggin and would pound on sherk until the bell. The ref would then call the fight as sherk couldn't continue.
After the fight, sherk said he felt comfortable standing and was hoping to wear penn down before pouncing later on. I don't think anyone would disagree with the thought...sherks gameplan should revolve around wearing penn out and looking to win in the fourth or fifth. But how he went about it was just terrible. I really wonder just how easy it is to get caught up in the flow of a fight. I mean, sherk can feel penn's punches and they weren't dropping him and even more importantly he can feel his punches getting through and hitting penn. his face is likely numb so he can't easily tell just how much damage he's taken and it has to be really frustrating to land and not have any visible evidence of damage. Not to mention his pride had to already be hurting from circumstances up until this fight so the longer the fight was standing the harder it would be to swallow his pride and avoid a standing battle by taking the fight to the ground. His gameplan should have revolved around smothering penn against the cage and dragging him to the ground every chance he gets but, for whatever reason, he got caught up in the fight and ended up spending 15 minutes boxing a clealry superior boxer.
My goals...realistic?? Think so.by eightfourO, May 28
Ok, so I am new to LP, and first off, i would like to say that i love this place. I have only met great, friendly people, and everyone is there to help you not suck so much and tell you how they think you can improve.
I began my poker career playing cash games at .25/.50 in high school with 20 dollar buy ins. I sucked, but they were worst. When i first started playing, it was the "moneymaker era", he had just won the tournament in 2003 and Texas Hold'em was the thing to play. I downloaded Pstars (which i now refer to jewstars) and started hitting up the free money. Those guys are idiots and will do anything, as you know, because it's monopoly money. I was still about 16 years old and playing for real money, i was probably up about 200 total just playing on weekends. It was nice, and it paid for gas. Again, i still didn't really know what i was doing. For Christmas one year, i got a book about poker from my mother, Tom McEvoy "Hold'em" or something like that. I read it and it opened my eyes to a completely different game. Now i was dominating my friends who were still clueless. This lead to me wanting to play online for real money as well, figuring i could easily dominate people around the globe (later i would find out i was wrong).
I got away from poker for awhile, graduated highschool, went to college on a baseball scholarship, played in the dorm every now and then but it was hard because the cops would come in and bust up the game since it was illegal or some bullshit and confiscate our money... Anyway, Over the summer of 2007, i started playing at tournaments again for #10 buy in and my buddy's house. This was kinda stupid because we would have like 15 people playing and it would be 2nd gets their money back and 1st gets 140, plus the rules were kind of bogus and the blinds never went up. Needless to say, playing with a bunch of retards, i would usually finish 1st or 2nd, which i was happy with. Then, i was overcome by what i will call "winners crash". (I just realized this is the most god awful piece of crap paper i have ever written, sorry this is boring, usually i am an exciting person to talk to....) Anyway, playing with retards and seeing how they bet and taking teh moniez from them, i began to play very loose because i knew i could and win. I became an idiot, after being fairly decent for 3 years, and i had turned into the retard throwing the money at people like you guys! It's funny because i turned another guy onto poker, he is a fellow LP participant, and he brought me back out of my mental retardation. He taught me how to play poker again, and now i feel that i am better than ever.
Before, back when i was a stupid idiot throwing money around, i tried out the 'ole jewstars, and i got jewed, a lot. I would put like 20 bucks in, go to the .02nl holdem and try my luck. I would play hands like A8o and i would hit on a 3 8 10 board, and since no one raised or reraised my A 8 i would think i had the nuts. Who would call with a 10?? well fuckin everyone it seemed like. I got cooler'd out of a lot of hands, they would hit on the riv, and i would get jewed, a lot. This pissed me off, and i lose 70 bucks, (bought in with 20, 30, and another 20.) I it was no problem, and i would just stick to making money off live games, but thats when my buddy retaught me poker. I bought in with 30 bucks, played the .02 limit, grinded it out, made some money, got up to 100, made all my money back and decided it was time to move up the ladder of retards to the .05nl. This wasn't much of a change. The only difference was i had more money being thrown at me. It's quite easy when you just play premo hands. The only thing i would play were... Raise pp 10's or better, reraise AA KK AK AQ, just raise or call a raise with AJ, KQ. limp with PP 9-2. I had to be strict on myself. No longer was KJ a good hand. And all those times i was jewed when i lost my 70 bucks...shouldn't have been in the hand in the first place.
Anyway, grinded it out on the .05nl, got it up to 170, prematurely played the .10nl, and played tournaments looking for the quick fix win teh monies but it never happend. I tried to play .05nl again, rebuild the BR, but those idiots played everything and hit, Aces got cracked twice in one day by 93o to a raise...bunches of idiots. Thats when I went down to 110 at one point, floated around 110-130 for a while, had a bad beat, got pissed and went to .25/.50, thinking "you know what? i'm just going to go play the .25/.50, it's what i grew up on, i know how to play it." I bought in for 30 bucks, still pissed, and in the first 9 hands i got, in this order, 7's 4's 10's and AA. The 7's and 4's both tripped, and the 10's were higher than the board, so i won pots after the flop. This got me up to about 42 dollars, when on the 9th hand i got AA with a preflop all-in before my action, for like 4 bucks, i reraise, he reraises, i call, and the board is like 10 Q 3. I raise, he goes all in, has me covered, i call, scared shitless like "OMG HE HAS 10 Q WTF AM I DOING!?!?!?!?" I dodge on the turn and riv, guy who has me covered had KQo, and the idiot who went all in preflop for 4 dollars had J2s...(yeah i thought the play was better at .50nl...) Anyway, i took down an 82 something dollar pot, got back up to where i was previously, and left because my buddy was like "DUDE LEAVE THE ROOM, YOUR ACTING LIKE NEILLY PLAYING OUT OF YOUR BR GET THE FUCK OUT!!!!!!!" (No disrespect to neilly) and now i am dominating the .10nl again.
So far, i have turned 30 bucks into...#230.92, something i am very very proud of.
Well i only have 14 minutes of battery left, so my goal is... millionaire by the time i am 25. (i will be 21 in december). I think i can do it if i play enough. I am very busy working, going to school, and playing baseball, so it's hard to find time.
Here is mah graph of mah monies. Again, remember that i spent a lot on stupid tournaments, and i've won about 20 bucks on another guys puter so i couldn't upload the hands...
Since I began playing poker around 1 year ago (where I totally sucked and played penny stakes) I made a pretty nice 100k$ (most my money was made this year actually, which is around 75k$), which drives me insanely happy, thanks to UB and the constant flow of player who have no idea there is strategy in poker. I should also thanks a few people like Fayth, TianYuan, TheTrees (Bishop), F4ZI and of course every player from LP who help me when I needed it on HHs and who still will in the future (many many thanks to every poster in Med/High stakes sections).
I'm pretty happy how the whole thing around poker turned out since May, I have been a bit off my game a few times but managed to put back a steady play every time without monkey tilting too much, which happened quite a few times during March and April. This month is a +15k$ if you include the 2k$ RB.
One thing I will have to seriously consider is moving up in stakes, but most of the times it seems like there is more profit in playing a multitude of 2/4 and 3/6 tables. I don't know if other mid/high stakes players seems to find this true, but my winrate is much higher due to fishes at these stakes than 5/10 (even tho I don't have any definitive amount due to HH crap on UB). Anyway on Ultimate Bet it's not really possible to multi the maximum amount of tables of 5/10 since it's very rare there is more than 5 of these running (max tables is 9).
I just want to say feel free to comment on my HH directly in the "Hands" section at right, also if you think some play aren't justified, do correct me on where I have mistaken and if you need any info on players I will post them by request.
On a life side, I have been offered two jobs after being done with my internship, one being the ministry of revenue where I had my internship, second being at CGI. They were great opportunity and they are not at all lost, I could call any day and get a job which is interesting, but never has interesting has poker. On this I hope you all run good like I did and bank all the money you can.
I'm seeking a stake since I'm short on immediate cash after my wedding. Unfortunately, gifts and cash didn't cover all the costs so I'm hoping to make some money by being staked. I prefer PLO cash games, but also like all tournaments and SNGs. My strength in tournaments is PLO8 and HORSE. You can check my results online. Below is my PT from last night on a friend's stake. I played 1-3 tables for about 7 hours. It's a small sample, but check my previous blog post for SNG results, most of which were PLO HU. As far as terms of a stake, I'm willing to play anything. I'm comfortable playing any buy in games or tournaments between $2-$200. For micro and low stakes games and tourneys I'm willing to go 50-50 plus stake back. For mid stakes games and tourneys I'm willing to go 60-40 plus stake back. And for high stakes games and tourneys I'm willing to go 70-30 plus stake back. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and ask.
Well it was my mom's birthday and she decided to go to Cancún, so a few of my family went there and it was quite nice, i also went to meet with some friends that are visiting their families in the summer since they study in my city and they took me to some nice and fun bars.
They went to ChichenItza (i didnt, i rather got drunk yay!) which is the city in the movie Apocalipto, yep the Mayan capital so here are a few pics of the piramids to which sadly they just recently wont allow visitors to climb.
Ordered a black Bose sounddock from PokerStars and it came in today.
I had listened to one of these before and was decently impressed with the sound quality for such a small device. My plan was to order one for my bathroom so I could listen to music in there with it instead of my blasting my room stereo. This plan seemed great and it would of been perfect but I obviously didn't think everything completely through as once I got it it donned on me I would either have to have a cord running across my sink all ghetto like or keep it in the corner near the plug where it barely fits (especially with the cord and adapter rolled up behind it) Being in the corner I would also probably get toothpaste and water all over it as well when I brush my teeth and shave etc...no thanks...
So since it doesn't jive very well in my bathroom, there is really no other reason for me to have it, so I'm thinking I'm going to sell it on Ebay while it's brand spankin new.
But before I do that I thought I would offer it to LP for $200 PS or UB money. I'd pay the shipping costs.
Pretty sure thats a real good price as its brand new outta the box for only a few hours and I still have the box, plastic bags, cords, manuals, everything it comes with and am including shipping
so lemme know here or by PM if anyone of you are interested http://gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2007/07/p_sounddock_l_b.jpg
Onto my poker rebuild! http://www.highhanddesigns.com/photow...ster%20page/Tilt%20poster%20large.jpg
My first week of rebuild is over. I had planned on blogging more than I did but a few things happened irl and I ran kinda crappy at a few points as well, so my incentive for blogging I admit wasn't high. I do plan on changing this and blogging even if I have a mediocre or really bad day but I don't expect to be a pro at this my first week.
So about 5 days of poker have happened since I last blogged. In this time I've played around 14k hands online. I played three different types/levels of NLHE:
.05/.1 fullring
.05/.1 6max
.1/.25 6max
So quitting FR while still ahead, I went back to 6max. From 4 days ago until today I only played about 6k hands and ended up with the exact opposite graph of how the 6k hands in fullring went. I started out immediately down, playing some setup hands and losing 5 buyins. I then also noticed that I had gotten into a little bit of fancy play syndrome but once I realized that I stopped for the day, reset and went back at it and been on a good upswing since. Biggest hand won
So ending yesterday with around $350 in my PS account, I woke today deciding to give NL .25 a try. I only played a little over 1k hands today, and walked away up $87 even w/ a won@sd % of 45.
Hands: Biggest pot lost
This hand is funny to me, because I immediately was going to fold, obviously knowing that I was beat vs him here. I then somehow thought about this hand way to much and talked myself into calling. I'm a POW
Funny that this hand was the biggest pot that I won today. I fully realize that this was a limped pot, and there was 4 of us that saw the flop and so maybe I didn't play it optimally but I was just sure this guy was totally full of it so I felt like calling down was best.
Well, it' seems the bad run continues IRL instead of poker. Nothing happend but my kneel started to hurt after a long time again. I'm afraid to visit a doc, because I guess the end will be a surgery. I'm in the middle of my exam period, but I can't really stand the pain anymore.
I've dropped UB NL25 for a while, because I want to earn 500VPP on Stars to get first deposit bonus. I've started to grind NL2 with SnGs like a week ago and I'm up to 10~ BI with a really small amuonts of played hands. Today I've won a sick 650BB pot :D

Bad Beat 1)
I get 3bet every single time i raise PF with any hand other than QQ,KK,AA and when I do have these hands they fold. For those single times I decide to call them, I completely miss the flop and they shove all-in.
Down 4 buyins. Stop loss, won't play until Saturday.
Bad Beat 2)
I try to buy PokerTracker 3, but my paypal won't accept my new card because my old one expired.
Bad Beat 3)
PokerTracker 2 is broken. Whenever I try to load hands, it says things are missing from the hand history files
Bad Beat 4)
I got another ingrown toenail
Bad Beat 5)
I fell on my guitar and broke it.
Can today get any worse? Fuck..... My bankroll is now down to fucking $165 FUCK. Kim I might need another lesson, sorry for keep bugging you on the same limit...
I picked a lot of fights and i got about all of them right. So I won't bother talking mostly about those i'll talk about the ones i didn't get right.
BJ vs Sherk.
BJ's gameplan >> Sherk. BJ smarter then Sherk. BJ better then sherk. We all knew that bj had really good hands. I talk with naz/daut/keanu/and other mma guys here and we all agree that BJ has some of the best hands at LW. To think that sherk was going to stand with him was pretty foolish. I mean BJ is a tall LW and he just snapped that jab Tim Sylvia style and turned sherk into mangled beef. Now yes i think that maybe it hsouldn't have been stopped but the way sherk was fighting he was gonna stop bj in the 4th/5th? Cuz he sure didn't win the 1st three rounds he had to make his push in the 3rd round to win 3 to 2 for a decision... but he didn't. In any case bj looked great but wasn't pressured enough in the clinch/ground which is where i think he gasses. GSP will do that to him and i think bj is biting off more then he can chew going after GSP. Just like i think anderson silva would be if he went against rampage at 205. The only move up in weight fight that isn't loppsided is gsp/spider imo.
The card was fun imo. I'm happy wandy is back, yoshida freaking obliterated warmachine and he was the most impressive fighter to me of the night. His judo in the clinch was pretty manly and then a transition into anaconda... oh baby!
I'll probably talk about the 85 card coming up soon I had no idea it was First week of June... crazytown! As for poker I'm doing pretty well.. everyone who's been helping me thanks a lot. I'm going to have a session with midian pretty soon so i can't wait for him to level me up even more.
Today i toke my 3rd shot to NL100. I play solid poker, dont tilt, but somehow, i always get smashed. I crush NL50 @ 9BB/100, but somehow, i just cant win on NL100. I get coolered, bad beated all day. 2 days @ NL50 recovering, 1 day taking a shot, 2 days recovering, and it goes on and on and on.
Do you guys have any specific advice on moving up? Is there something i just dont recognize on NL100? I dont feel i play bad, PT shows i dont play bad, yet i lose.
I think i have some huge leaks in my game, which i dont aware of. This can be one explanation. Therefore, im thinking about getting a coach. Does it worth it? If so, who would be a good coach in my case? For how much? I'm absolutely clueless about this coaching thing, any advice is appreciated.
I include the pt stats, if anyone can post any advice, i will be really grateful!
I played throughout the night last night on a stake and managed to bust playing in some sick games, but wasn't completely on the respirator. I went to AC with the last $120 in my pocket and managed to win $300 playing 1/2 for a few hours.
ship ship
so i get home and redeposit $100 and after playing 1 table all day in the casino, i've found that i really want to work on the quality of my hands much more. ZngelDaY[9] has been helping me alot lately and had told me to never 4 table hu anymore, and to keep it to 1-2 tabling HU at most. I followed his guideline tonight 1-2 tabling HU (only 2 tabling vs the same opponent) and playing 1 FR NL50 table. I managed to play at 50bb/100 over a couple hrs to win a few bi.
I've been learning alot lately thanks to mbsalsa, zngelday[9] and the constructive critism i get from lp.
Hopefully i can learn to be a winning player soon or this poker kick will be all over for me.
