Spoilers if you still haven't seen the event.
I picked a lot of fights and i got about all of them right. So I won't bother talking mostly about those i'll talk about the ones i didn't get right.
BJ vs Sherk.
BJ's gameplan >> Sherk. BJ smarter then Sherk. BJ better then sherk. We all knew that bj had really good hands. I talk with naz/daut/keanu/and other mma guys here and we all agree that BJ has some of the best hands at LW. To think that sherk was going to stand with him was pretty foolish. I mean BJ is a tall LW and he just snapped that jab Tim Sylvia style and turned sherk into mangled beef. Now yes i think that maybe it hsouldn't have been stopped but the way sherk was fighting he was gonna stop bj in the 4th/5th? Cuz he sure didn't win the 1st three rounds he had to make his push in the 3rd round to win 3 to 2 for a decision... but he didn't. In any case bj looked great but wasn't pressured enough in the clinch/ground which is where i think he gasses. GSP will do that to him and i think bj is biting off more then he can chew going after GSP. Just like i think anderson silva would be if he went against rampage at 205. The only move up in weight fight that isn't loppsided is gsp/spider imo.
The card was fun imo. I'm happy wandy is back, yoshida freaking obliterated warmachine and he was the most impressive fighter to me of the night. His judo in the clinch was pretty manly and then a transition into anaconda... oh baby!
I'll probably talk about the 85 card coming up soon I had no idea it was First week of June... crazytown! As for poker I'm doing pretty well.. everyone who's been helping me thanks a lot. I'm going to have a session with midian pretty soon so i can't wait for him to level me up even more.

i think anderson silva crushes gsp. gsp wants to avoid standup with people and hes facing the best in the biz? plus a legit black belt in bjj? my friend told me a story about anderson. someone asked anderson how he trained bjj and he said with a gi. when asked why he trained with a gi he responded "there are only about 10 guys in the world who can beat me when i train without a gi. but with a gi there are probably about 50 so it gives me more people to train with". even tho gsp is a beast i think it will be really hard for him to pass andersons guard and really do damage cause anderson is stronger and his legs putting you in a body triangle are just unreal.
i think gsp > bj but thats the closest imo because of bj's great standup, great takedown defense and amazing on his back. this is really a fight where it going 5 rounds HEAVILY favors gsp, but a 3 round fight is really close. i think gsp is probably like a 3-2 favorite in 3 rounds but probably like 3-1 favorite in 5 rounds. whereas anderson silva at least 2-1 over gsp and rampage at least 2-1 over spider.

The card was pretty exciting. Wanderlei just owning Jardine was just so sick. Wanderlei literally held him down with one hand and had like 5 clean shots right to his face. OUCH.
Penn/Sherk fight was good but I just couldn't understand why Sherk avoided doing any takedowns and stayed on his feet. Ok I can understand if you do it the first two rounds but in the third round you have to go to our bread and butter. You can give respect to his takedown but don't shy away from what you do best. That knee was just perfect timing by BJ once he saw Sherk bounce off that fence. No way Sherk was going to fight a fourth round, when BJ hit that knee, the ref had really bad position and didn't see that Sherk already was out for a sec before recovering just as the ref circled around for the better view.
Also Yves Lavigne falling on his ass during the Lyoto/Tito fight was just so so so so funny. |
