So i switched from 25nl FR(with the rare stab at 50nl) to HU.
Have been playing 50nl Cash HU for the past week, which has been EXTREMELY successful(up ~ 30 buyins), and now today i started playing the $20-$50 SNG's because i can't handle the rake(i played a hour session today and the end resulted in both of us being negative...)
I feel alot more confident playing HU than i ever did playing FR and i feel like i'm learning faster. Going to keep on 1 tabling because i feel i can concentrate harder and learn the game better.
today was semi-successful... got 3 outered 5 times(one of which i came back and still won). Entered 6 4-man HU tourneys(5 of them were $22, and 1 of them was a $33) and took down the one of the $22's and the $33. (i got 3 outered twice in 2 of the $22's). Overall up about $120 which isn't as good as yesterday but i can't complain.
i would post a graph but my PT3 is giving me a error and auto-closing for my Old-Screen name on Pokerstars which is putting me on massive monkey-tilt so here's one off my new S/N until i fix it.
This blog is mostly for me to clear my mind and review my progress later. GL everybody
how are you watching the olympics if you're not in the unitedstates? I know its on tv but online the only stream/videos I can find all belong to nbc and they only stream to usa viewers
Live play is so much more fun than playing on the net. I went to the casino maybe three times this summer and played 1/2$ NL. Each time I came back with at least $100 more in my pocket. So I have 500$ profits from live play, and just a lot of good stories.
The best one is when a guy sitting at the table next to us, wearing a suit, got so frustrated that he just shoved blind preflop for $100. He got called by two people. He turned over K3. Flop: K39. Turn and river completed a straight and a flush for the two other guys in the pot. The very next hand he dropped $200 on the table and shoved blind again. He talked the guy next to him into calling blind, then some jerk reraised the other guy all in after looking at his cards. The second guy looked at his cards then folded. The reraiser showed AK ("I have to play it, I have a monster"). Tilty guy showed J8o. The board bricked for both players on the flop and turn. Just before the river hit, tilty guy yells 'JACK!'. The jack falls on the table, and the whole room is out of their seats and cheering for the guy who just raked in the 600$ pot. AK guy is just pissed off but he deserved it imo. If the other guy hadn't called blind then it would have been fine but I think just to show some good sport he should have laid it down.
Took my $160 on stars a few days later and just decided to play all or nothing. Jumped on a $200NL table (kinda) short stacked with all my money and played. Brought it up to $300 in a few hours. Then a few days later I had it up to $900. I got too confident and three-tabled, and promptly got bad beat, coolered and called too light within five minutes. Dropped my roll down to $400. Felt pretty crappy. I played 200NL again a day later but dropped down to $360. Then I said, screw it, if I'm going to run bad I'm going to at least take SOME profit. So I withdrew $160 and sat down at a 200NL table with 200$, my entire bankroll, again. Played careful. Avoided marginal situations. Made money. It's now about a week later, and my bankroll is at $300, playing at $100NL. I've been withdrawing money constantly, and have withdrawn $390 thus far. So if I hadn't withdrawn money I'd be at 750$.
I know it's not optimal but I find that playing with a small 'visible' bankroll really helps me keep focused and stops me from making stupid decisions. In the past I've found that when my bankroll gets too large, I get too confident and I play much more loose, get myself in more situations where I make the wrong decision or whatever. So I'm trying to artificially influence how I play by putting myself in a situation where losing a buyin hurts me. This way I really make myself think about my decisions. Every time I withdraw, I make sure that my bankroll has grown by a buyin or half a buyin, so that my BR is constantly getting larger. In doing so I hope that I'll be able to observe the way I play, what works and what doesn't, and thus improve my skills.
It also stops me from playing when I'm frustrated. I have a bad habit of continuing to play even when I'm stressed, tilting or don't have the time to play a proper session. It's the whole wanting to 'at least break even' thing, or even when I'm winning, wanting to win more. In the past it's caused me to play too aggressive trying to meet my objectives. With this artificial scenario that I've placed on myself, I find it's easier to stop a session just before or just as it goes downhill. I'm trying to get used to doing this, so that I can maintain this habit even when I am properly rolled.
After grinding at $5NL and $10NL, I find this limit really refreshing for me. I know the bankroll rules, and I know that I'm playing with fire here, being so underrolled, but I have two things going for me that I think offset this. First, I can beat the limit. These past three days I've had a really bad run of cards, but because I've kept myself away from marginal situations and kept my cool, I've managed to run positive at the end of each day, though not necessarily each session. And on days when it just clicked, I can make two or three buyins easily within a few hours. Second, I am technically properly rolled. My 'visible' bankroll is just what I have on stars (currently at 3 bi for 100NL), but I'm not spending the money that I'm withdrawing, so if I go broke on stars its a simple deposit to get back in the game. The idea of withdrawing is so that I won't use that money to gamble, but it's an option, at least. I think the chances of me actually going broke is slim, and it's much more rewarding to win a tangible amount of money.
Playing live has really given me the confidence and experience to handle this limit, and a little bit of luck (or maybe, the lack of bad luck) has stopped me from going busto in those critical times where I've had one buyin before going broke.
There are definitely flaws with the way I play. I feel like my playstyle can be easily exploited by someone who knows what they're doing. Fortunately I don't think there are that many skilled players, and with all the donkeys at this limit there are easier fish to fry. Once I get a solid base and more consistency and control over my play style, I'll start working on playing the game properly.

To PplusAD with Love <3 (and marshall28 too!)by killThemDonks, August 11
Had a sweat session with PplusAD yesterday! We succeeded in identifying some key leaks in my game...and I''m sure you'd believe me when I say they are many! Incorporated his advice into my session today, and it went great! Spewing alot less and avoiding tough spots alot less. Ran a bit above average today since I didnt have that many coolers for stacks, here's the graph:
also thanks to marshall28, we had a session a month ago when I was playing FR (6 max rocks btw....never mind what lachlan saids ), and to Sempper and royalsu (where r u??).
life update...still on life tilt from last week. women tilt me so hard sometimes :-( w/e ...poker is helping get my mind off things. i wont bore you with details.
Well altogether today was a good day,
1.play'd 2k hands this morning with rather good results by br standards,
2.then took a trip to the bowling alley with a friend, and bowl'd a 610 series which is pretty good for not bowling on a consistant basis anymore....
3. Went golfing with my dad (i took up golf June 1st 08) and at the local course i shot a 89 which was obv great score for me because i suck still...
4. only like 400 fpp left till i get my bonus from lp and getting a PT3 or the HEM, still undecided which to get, any advice from experience would be greatly appreciated .. thanks all

First week of my return has been a good week. I've done decent in the cashgames, though I've made many a mistake. I've also done well in tourneys, finishing a lot on the final 2 or 3 tables for usually around $400 each. However, the big win is still not achieved, unfortunately.
Bankroll is at $5363, where it was at $3850 somewhere last monday, so I'm very statisfied. Making $1500 in the first week of my return was more then I could've ever hoped for. Let's hope week 2 is just as good!
Won $500 FTOP main event ticketby Seobombisgay, August 11
Got lucky and donked 1st place on some 20$ satellite tourney. I'm only rolled for 100nl... should i sell it or get lucky and ship home a nice 400k check?
o yea. also won another ticket to a $200 tourney which is in 30 min but sold it. too hungry.
*EDIT* Still looking to trade $500 ftp for $500ps.
Awesome, so I woke up at like 1:40 pm and went out to eat with my grandparents for lunch. Still hungry btw. I got back, at like 3:00 and decided to get my poker done, and reach my goal of my bankroll hitting $250 sufficent enough to start NL10. So after 1 hour of playing, I made my $15 and hit $250.
If you read my post before entitled, ACES SUCK or w/e, I have to say it still holds true, especially when you see my next hand. Aces really do suck against quad deuces.

I still havent gotten my email from Pokerstars with my entire lifetime hand history, so I guess I'll give them a bit more time. My stats aren't that great, I'm just nitting it up and it's working out wonderfully for the time being. I know I'll have to open up at the higher stakes, but for extreme micro stakes, I guess all i would have to say is don't get into marginal positions like 2nd pair or 2 overcards etc... and respect huge raises, and money will just flow right into your pocket.
I'm going to go off and play some fun SC and then head out to a free poker tournament maybe a 25 min drive away and who cares if I win, because tomorrow I will take a shot at NL10. I remember there used to be a lot of calling stations, so I am guessing I would have to continue to nit it up, and take them to value town. I'll see you tomorrow. WEEEEE.
I'm going to be selling pieces of myself in the $1000+$60 6m FTOP's event #12. I'm going to leave 50% on the table for people to buy. I'd prefer for buyers to get at least 5%, just so it's easier to keep track of who I owe what if I do cash. I'd also prefer buyers to be repuatable members on LP. I've got a pretty good track record in MTT's, even excluding my Sunday Million win, so I think this is a very +EV investment for everyone.
So just send me a PM if you're interested and I'll PM back my aim so we can talk.
I have a super hot sexy Girl introducing me to my work this week ( unfortunately she will leave after the week)
well but its always nice to start the day with a super hot girl around u ^^
Shes only 18 which sucks a bit since i am 23 and lately a bit more into women of 20-24 years age .
But i think i ll probably get her phone number and try to have some fun with her if possible.
Besides that i have lots of interesting things to do at work and i really work a lot of sports related stuff with different people there.
thats nice
EX GF
So in Germany there is some page called studivz.de which is basically like Facebook or Myspace but only for young german people.
(mostly university students)
since recently i made some decent money with poker ( well decent not in terms if High stakes ^^ but in terms of i can make 1.000$ a weak without much problems) i made a small photo album consisting of some brag Stuff like an RX8 and the Watch i showed in an earlier post.
I said in that album that i plan to buy the RX8 within 2009 which is probably doable if i play lots of poker.
Well and then suddleny my EX Girlfriend who is also member of STudiVZ goes Lifetilt for whatever reason ...
I havent heard from her .. nor had contact with her for over 1 year
Actually i dont really care what she does and i thought she dont really care what i do.
But for whatever strange reason she went totally amok ...
writing in public comments ... that i suck at everything and that i dont have money and that i lie and stuff
well first i was kinda amused and asked a simple :
Wtf is your problem
Why do u think i cant make money ? when in reality i do ?
then she went even more amok and told me i should stopp sending her letters in which i say i still love her
and that i am sorry about all and stuff ...
lol
i am speechless right now
this is just so unbelievable to me that i dont know if i should burst out in laughter or feel sory for her.
appearently for whatever reason she has lost her sanitiy ?
LOl
strange world
Pokerwise i had a good session with killThemDonks who i will teach some pokerz in the future.
ALlthough we played the - EV jackpot tables on partypoker we managed to do a 7.32BB/100 session at NL25.
Its one of my plans to give a bit back to the community and so i decided to make 2 ppl Nl50 winners in the near future
These are killThemDonks and lazymej
both showed some decent general understanding of poker when i talked with them and seemed to just do lots of minor mistkes
that i am positive can be fixed by some choaching.
So far it has gone well
lazymej managed to make like 20 buy-ins on Nl10 in less than 1 week after our choaching sessions
and the session with killThemDonks also looked kinda promising.
So erling was in Croatia we had a good time but he stayed only for 5 days of which he slept like two so it wasn't as fun as it shoulda been, but we still went on a island party which was pretty cool.
I'll post pics when I get em.
Also last night I was on a Iron Maiden concert but I got too smashed so its a bit foggy, but it was still fucking epic.
Pokerwise I play like once a week nowdays cuz I just don't feel like it,but I guess I'll move up a gear soon cuz im running out of money...
Next time I'll make a contentful blogpost,so whatever.
Oh and congrats faz for the 80+k you won at the PP Mill, vnice mate
Analogy: Poker & Highway Drivingby SpoR, August 11
So the other day I was driving to work like I normally do down PCH (Highway 1, it runs down the west coast of USA). Its somewhat of a scenic drive from Huntington Beach to Seal Beach. There are wetlands, nice beach views, oil rigs out at sea, and there is even the occasional naval gunship docked at the military base. Anyways this gives me time to think or reflect (if I'm not listening to music).
Usually I am running late or even if I'm not I hate the fact that people drive like 10-15 mph slower than the speed limit (because I usually drive at -5 to +5). So I got to thinking, Poker is a lot like freeway/highway driving.
There are a lot of shitty drivers out there and most of them you can get past. You can use your skills and judgement and slip into a 3 second passing window and take a lead position on the freeway (at least until the next intersection).
You can calculate when to start coasting to conserve gas when you see a red light a quarter mile ahead, or likewise you can calculate that it'll be green by the time you get there so you don't need to break.
You can dodge and weave in traffic all the way from the back and be at the front of the pack at the next red light.
You can keep your eyes scanning way ahead for cops as you break the speed limit meanwhile keeping focus on driving.
Usually you can always pick out a top contender in the pack of cars to try and stay ahead of.
You can make a luck based decision to get into the right hand lane at a red light even if there are more cars if you take into account that 40-50% of the that lane will turn and give you an edge in the 'race'.
You can make similar decisions based on what kind of car a person is driving; Generally the bigger the vehicle the slower the driver who likes to cruise, and its best to get behind sports cars because they obviously like to go fast. You can even think 3-5 cars ahead and add them all up +1, -1, and take which lane will move fastest. Its not fool proof, but it is a +EV strat just like counting cards in Blackjack.
Its almost as good a feeling as winning a big hand as it is rolling up to a 20 car stop light and making it to the front of that pack after 4-5 miles.
But just like poker, you can't always make it there. No matter how good you are. Sometimes the shitty drivers form a slow moving road block and just don't let you pass, sometimes you hit every red light and can't get an edge, sometimes the right lane stays full and lose you 3 positions, sometimes the sports cars drive slow and throw you off- sometimes the vans haul ass (like me ;P ).
But just like Poker you keep at it, keep driving the way you do and it pays off in the long run. Don't give up just because you're having a bad streak of luck with the old men Ferrari drivers or the cellphone girl doing her makeup and blocking your opportunity to slip in today.
You can't win them all but you will win more often then not, and that's the only way to win.
I haven't had a poker-related blog post in a while so I thought I'd better do a quick one.
- I've finished at 25NL, after beating it for 6.3bb/100 over 40k hands I'm finally done! Much thanks to Lachlan, kimseongchan, Semper and some other RL friends and LP'rs who have gotten me through it It's definetely been a huge learning curve for me.
- Started 50NL, ran good for the first couple of sessions, very comfortable playing with $50 stacks, I didn't take my first shot until I had a 1.6k (32 buyins) roll so I think that has helped with removing some of the emotion involved with moving up.
I know my blind play is HORRIBLE, I really need work on that. I'm too weaktight in the BB and I find myself 3betting ONLY sc's, big PP's (99+) and AK, maybe QKs. Very, very weak. If anyone who has already beaten 50NL or is currently beating it nicely would offer to sweat me for a session or maybe do some short-term (1-3 months) coaching I'd be willing to pay, kimseongchan has kind of gone MIA
In other news I turned 18 (awesome), got given a car by grandparents (awesome), went and saw Chris Rock live with mates (awesome), found out my car needs $2.5k of work before it's roadworthy (not awesome), go for my licence tomorrow (awesome).
Overally I've had an awesome few months, I'm stoked Also I'm hooked on two TV shows at the moment; How I Met Your Mother & The Black Donnelys
I'll leave you guys with a few songs I've been listening to:

i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on both of those particular games. mainly the difference in limit holdem and a basic strategy to go by if i wanted to jump into a 3/6 game for both. what hands are good to play/raise and how i should be approaching it from a strategy standpoint. also what general omaha8 hands are good starting hands. thx all.
I have decided to post this as a daily report to increase my day to day poker. I hope to be playing 1-2k+ hands a day, and by August 27th have a $400 bankroll. Right now I'm sitting at $235. I think I can do it, as I have just got really into poker again.
So today started off like shit. I put in maybe 1k hands on my laptop sitting in bed watching the olympics on TV. After about 5-600 hands I am up about $3 on NL5. I am dealt KK and raise from UTG. The button minraises to $0.75 after my raise to $0.40. So naturally, I raise to $2.30 and he calls. Flop comes 2 5 9 rainbow, and I think I'm good so I raise the pot value hoping to get it in, and he shoves and has me covered, I call, and he shows AA. Natural cooler, so whatever.
Next hand, I'm dealt KQs and run into AQs on Q 5 8 rainbow flop, he is a calling station and I end up losing $4 to him. I think I should have checked the river, as I was pretty sure he had AQ anyway, but I guess I was a little anxious to get more money from losing $10 the hand before. Oh well.
Then, at around 7-8 pm I log back into Pokerstars on my desktop and notice I have a bankroll of only $210 lost 2 buyins earlier T.T oh well, time to make it back. Ended the day to a bankroll of $235.
I emailed Pokerstars, and I'm waiting on my entire lifetime hand histories to put into my laptop's PokerTracker.
Tomorrow, I'll post hands that I am confused about, need thoughts on, and my biggest loses and see if I should have played them differently.
I'm hoping to hit $250 tomorrow and if I do I'll call it quits for the day, to get a headstart on NL10 on Tuesday.
I watched 2 tables of NL10 earlier today, and took notes on all of the players, and afterwards, I was able to literally say what each player had at any given hand, because of how detailed my notes were. I guess its because Microstakes players play 1 certain style. For example, one player I noted only minraises with KK and AA a raise, otherwise he will limp, and raise like $4 on flop or shove if someone raises, no matter the flop. I hope these notes will come in handy when I move up. I hope I do well.
Well, here is to a new beginning of my poker career. Let's see how it goes. See you tomorrow.
