Hey,
I saw this on another forum and feel really terrible for this guy. I'm convinced he's legit and LPers are rich.
http://www.bitcoin.org/smf/index.php?topic=2491.0
Cliff notes:
- Newborn's lungs collapsed.
- Bank added fees pushing him into debt.
- Paycheck - fees left him with $10
- Employer gives him 1 day left for leave.
- Landlord gives him a month.
- Mother is desperately sick in hospital.
- Landlord kicks him out 1 month later; "I don't give a fucking shit, all your shit is going in the trash, you're gonna need to dig it out or it'll be gone by tomorrow."
- Steals all his expensive shit (TV, computer, ...) & keeps his deposit.
- Moves into hotel.
- Mother is cheating and an alcholic... Moves in with her new boyfriend.
- Mother is now doing cocaine and prostitution.
- Mother no-longer wants child and refuses to help.
- Parents busted by IRS but looking after children (it seems).
- Homeless & broke.
This guy really has it tough!
I'm convinced he's legit because when I asked for proof he posted just the name of his ex, then after refreshing the page I saw that he's edited it to replace it with a myspace links to photo-albums and a longer description.
The photo albums and the blog on the myspace are entirely consistent with the story he has portrayed so far. Additionally someone else found links to other forums where he's been cross posting the same info. The dates of his posted timeline and web history match up.

I don't know this guy at all, but I gave him a little something to help & I think you should too! Even if it's not money but an offer to pay for a place for him to stay or send him gifts to help out. He's obviously not some degenerate as if you check his past web history, he has an interest in web programming and computers. He just made a bad choice of woman who fucked him over!
His paypal is skostemart@gmail.com
His email is waffers@gmail.com

Spending one year on a plan to gain $300 doesn't sound very cost effective either though.
Then again, you're/he's holding a real baby. Pictures don't lie. |

Isn't this illegal? Or even if it is legal, couldn't he have applied for unemployment benefits? |

Just skimming im quite convinced this is a skewed version of the truth. I have a friend who is like this (well kinda ex-friend), he basically would turn a standard variance of life into the worst thing ever happened to him. He is a big emo basically. I cant stand him anymore.
I could be completely ignorant and wrong though here. But, I mean how has he no money? He says that on those forums. Yet hes on the internet, which would entail he must have at least a laptop. And he says his landlord "stole his stuff". Come on? Why not go to police and get them to look into it? Also, you can get help with bank fees if you cannot afford it.
This has to be a skewed version of the truth. |

it's hard to be in a home, writing blogs/posting pics from a webcam, begging to people on the internet when you're.... homeless?

it's one thing to discuss your life situation to people, and express yourself to try to improve your mental health/morale, but it's another thing just being a lazy bastard who is looking for a free buck. less posting, more working
also, umm... his profile on bitcoin
Date Registered: Today at 06:14 am - heh
final edit: just read through the thread - looks like he is working, but just needs a few bucks for a place to stay until his cheque comes in (which should be in just a couple days apparently). well, sorry about jumping to conclusions earlier, just hear too many sob stories from people looking for handouts when they're truly just lazy bastards.
sad story, if true. well, good luck to him, and big ups to you for donating $46 to his cause. |

from genjix's advice in that forum:

Hi genjix,
could you elaborate on the mcdonalds leftover thing? don't people at mcdonalds generally dump the leftovers on their trays into the garbage? i don't think i've ever really seen people at any fastfood place like that leave their food on the table.
or do you mean you just stand around a mcdonalds and wait for someone to finish eating and when they're about to get up and dump their tray you hurry over and grab their leftovers? i can't get this out of my head, i'm really having a hard time imagining exactly how this would work. |

The thing is, if you want to do something good - there are a lot better and more urgent targets than a white trash guy living in a hotel with a baby. There's no real argument for this guy to go "pass" those who are more in need except that he has a friggin' laptop and can beg for money in more creative ways.
The argument is not whether he needs help but whether there are people who need even more help and the latter is clearly true. Someone really looking to donate to a good cause can probably get a fuckton of more people happy with $50 than just giving it to this guy. The situation would obviously be different if someone knew this guy in person. Then that guy could help out a friend obviously. |

The more I think of it, I'm an idiot for giving him money.
I'll blame it on christmas and feeling generous, and him and I being from two totally different worlds and it being the morning when I read it and feeling tired.
There is still a tiny % that this is legit, and it might have helped. But odds are against that. |

no i promise they didn't - it was more like he didn't pay his bills and now there is a levy on his account deducting his paychecks

When you face someone, group of people, a cause or you could help, if you think that your it would be better to give your money to someone which is in a worse situation, it is a good way to somewhat procrastinate the help you can offer. I don't think giving to charity is about helping the people more in need but to someone you know you will simply help.
I do feel some empathy for the guy, it does'nt imply that I will give him money, but it does mean that I won't say "gtfo you beggar".
But you may be an utter moron for putting words in people mouth which they never said, and I hope what Tom wrote was cynic. |

Given that these people who haven't given money to charity before, giving it to this cause would simply be silly. It's not so much "well, you say you're going to give it to charity later" as much as "since they haven't helped those more in need, why should they help this guy now":
Sure that story is tragic and shit, whether it's true or not but doesn't warrant all the fuzz this thread is creating. For every story like this, there are 100+ even worse. Starting to fund idiots who get themselves into trouble by getting a kid while they can't support 'em with their income is a sure way to lose money on a vain cause. Pretty sure there are tons of people like this and the lil' boohoo and a sad background music with a storyteller telling about their tragic past and the american dream don't make 'em any more special.
There are people dying there who could use the help. The fact that you haven't helped them doesn't imply that you should help this guy. If anything, it should make it clear that you're not going to. Priorities man, priorities. |

wtf genjix... u were like me defending the position not to donate to haiti bc we all know what happens to relief aid money... there are way better causes than this and the arguement to donate to this guy is not from logic but is an appeal to emotion
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_emotion
please LP do not donate to this cause ur money is more lifesaving if u donate to fight hunger in africa and across the world. 100K ppl a day die because they dont have food/clean drinking water. I doubt less than 10 mentally sane people a year die in the US from starvation unless they're attempting world records or get trapped or some shit
and for ppl making fun of genjix if he scavenged, shame on urselves. Don't forget to make fun of me for having to sleep on park benches every now and then when I was in highschool. |

being poor + having baby = massive life fail.

No it won't. People will still have sex and think that they won't get pregnant. All a measure like that would do is put an increased burden of suffering on the child. I'm surprised someone as smart as you would actually think such an idea could work. Oh and before you make a counter-argument about using abortion don't forget there is a significant number of people who just can't go through with that for whatever personal reasons. Rationally if you're poor and get pregnant we'd think them stupid to have the baby anyways but for a lot of people it's not a rational decision. |

yeah, but we're assuming the bum is outside of the car, and not paying for the food. grab it when they're passing it over. however, in this case, it's quite possible the 'bum' owns a car and probably eats out semi-regularly. too broke to buy a meal, so rich you don't gotta worry about making kids |

this is an interesting idea, you charge people something affordable something like $500 to have a kid. This will prevent a lot of retards from reproducing
|
No it won't. People will still have sex and think that they won't get pregnant. All a measure like that would do is put an increased burden of suffering on the child. I'm surprised someone as smart as you would actually think such an idea could work. well if you make the tax something significant i think people will start to second guess the idea of abortion, or at least invest more in birth control etc. regardless, that wasn't the main point, the main point was that tax money goes to subsidize these massive welfare families and its working as nothing but an incentive. |

What a sorry argument...
If you see a person laying in the street wounded, maybe rationalise to yourself that well, he probably gets better & there's tons more people who have it worse off in the world... hope you see how silly that argument is.

Hi genjix,
could you elaborate on the mcdonalds leftover thing? don't people at mcdonalds generally dump the leftovers on their trays into the garbage? i don't think i've ever really seen people at any fastfood place like that leave their food on the table.
or do you mean you just stand around a mcdonalds and wait for someone to finish eating and when they're about to get up and dump their tray you hurry over and grab their leftovers? i can't get this out of my head, i'm really having a hard time imagining exactly how this would work. |
only chumps clean their own trays away at a fast food restaurant. |

We should castrate all people with an IQ below 100, decreases population, decreases the % of children who has to grow up in the conditions as his child must, etc etc etc. |

Also, hearing about my old grand parent's stories about living in third world south korea ( was the 3rd poorest economy in the world during that time right after the korean war ) and how they overcame their obstacles is quite the inspiration. Then hearing about a random guy who's too lazy to put in the hard work to feed his kid is very very depressing to me.
Imagine being a widowed woman in a 3rd world country while all your dead husband left you was massive gambling debts and 4 children to feed.
THAT'S a fuck our lives moment. |

This has to be a skewed version of the truth. |
this
if all this is true, then I feel very bad for him and could possibly send some money that doesnt matter to me, but I feel this is all an exaggeration or maybe even a complete lie. |

like this story

he said Britain "never had it so good" and people went mental. In actual fact right now the UK does have it good, youll get benefits for unemployment, a council house, child support, free schooling and free health care.
It was only 70 years ago people were literally rebuilding their lives and country, rationing food etc. |
