this isnt hsp anymore. norm macdonald, seriously? he has no feel for the game and a very tired voice. like in the viffer (A7) vs doyle (TT) hand, saying if viffer would have raised the turn, doyle would "definitely have folded", wtf do you know? like it's a completely standard fold vs someone like viffer. and before barry raised $100k, norm was like, this hand is over, barry's folding.
i never thought i'd say this but gabe kaplan was a good commentary. not the best jokester but a good commentary, he understood dynamics and he understood poker.
bring some better players in, vanessa and viffer were interesting but i wanna see the real top dogs
ultimately this show is going downhill really fast :l |

doyles game is to fold 100 hands, wait for aa, hit top set and hope everyone puts him on 10 2. sadly that only works against negreanu though |

i guess i'm one of the few who likes norm mcdonald lol, his deadpan is an acquired taste. but they definitely need another guy who knows what they're talking about to comment on the poker hands and stuff. |
Why would you say such thing? Didn't you hear him say in his intro that he is a poker professional!? |

No:
Seat 1: Doyle Brunson $200,000
Seat 2: Vanessa Selbst $200,000
Seat 3: Barry Greenstein $200,000
Seat 4: Antonio Esfandiari $200,000
Seat 5: Robert Croak $200,000
Seat 6: Phil Ruffin $500,000
Seat 7: Bill Klein $500,000
Seat 8: David "Viffer" Peat $200,000
|
Yeah I agree. I thought at least viffer would wanna cover them?
this is preety sad IMO, the fish are buying in for 500k but the pros only buying in for 200k... How on earth are the pros not covering the fish. You would not see this with the FTP pros. Dwan and ivey would prob get a seizure if two fish bought in for 500k |

i cant even download the 1st episode.. i take this as a sign and switch to FTP million dollar cash game as my new favorite poker show
btw those ridiculous FTP vs PS marketing wars considering tv shows are really pissing people off, noone will earn from it why the fuck do they do that srsly and altho PS seems to usually come off with the better plans for marketing strategies they will get slaugthered TV-shows-ratings-wise |

Well I was hoping Norm McDonald would bring a lot of his SNL flare to the show, but instead he's just reading from the same script Gabe does, with much worse poker knowledge. Now I miss Gabe for sure |

HSP was legitly my favorite TV show. Now it's just... PAD cash game...
Anyways still nice to see Barry G...? Hoping that the show can pick up but without Gabe who I thought was hilarious and with the new layout of everything (wtf with the new table style?) I doubt I'm going to watch much anymore. |

High Stakes Poker used to be exciting with big pots and crazy aggressive players, but is imo passed by poker shows like The Big Game and Poker After Dark.
I think that the viewers aren't excited anymore by $400,000 pots, whereas that would be the case in the first seasons.
Also poker wise shows like the Big Game and PAD are more interesting, since you can see every hand. I got the feeling I watched at some set ups and a few nice bluffs.
I miss Gabe too and two commentators do provide a more lively report than one.
So I am also disappointed, but will be watching nontheless |
