because 9 max have always been more popular than 6 max so if one should have less tables if its dependant on the other one dying out then there should be limited 6 max

the point is that there is people out there who ONLY want to play 7-10 handed. if you allow unlimited 6 max tables it could be that all of the players who like shorthanded (those are needed to fill up the full ring tables before they become full ring) join 6-max and because of that there will never be an option for 7-10 handed players to play. this way they're missing out on activity.

not saying that's how they make the most money, but that's what they have in mind

There'd be less full ring games, perhaps, which could lead to a few players checking other sites out. But if they suspect that most people playing full ring would prefer to play shorthanded they're probably already losing players (myself, for example).

It's just weird that they'd be so counter-intuitive about it.

they should just add like 2 more 6 maxes

and then if it was okay and full ring stayed filled, add another 2 or something

I freaking hate short handed. HU or full ring only - 6 max just doesn't work for me and its all you find on quite a few smaller sites.

6 max is infinitely better than full ring. not only is it more profitabl, it makes you a better poker player.

not really. would you tell someone who makes lots of money playing NLHE cash games but sucks at PLO that they have to work harder to get good at PLO? they would become more well-rounded players sure, but it's not like they have an obligation to do it if they're happy with what they're doing.
