"In between those two extremes are many programs - some of which we consider to be too close to cheating. For example, there are people building huge databases with profiles of every player on PokerStars, and they are selling access to these databases. A player with access to such a database can call up detailed information about every one of his opponents without ever playing against those opponents himself. We believe this gives that player an unfair advantage against others at his table."
I guess this datamining process is illegal? |

yep playingnaked, datamining is against stars TOC and pretty unethical but its definitely out there so if u dont do it ur disadvantaged vs people u play against that do it. and this is a good enough argument for people to start doing it. sucks but welcome to the real world |

i dunno, as smart players we vary our play by table, we adjust and adapt, and we definitely don't worry about people having "reliable long-term stats." i would much rather see somebody absolutely convinced that i am always running 25/21, when i'm actually playing 39/35 right now because the table allows it.
i'm glad people rely on datamining, because if they overvalue long-term stats, then they're playing bad/robotic poker.
i dunno, you can't get individual HH from the datamines though right? |

yeah i've seen fullring datamines. i think everything is mined, but as you can see it's very incomplete...so in terms of winrates, these datamines won't do you much good. |

yep u get the hhs of every hand played that it catches
and for people you havent played with before, just seeing some pt stats with a decent sample on them is going to immediately give you a decent idea of what sort of player they are, whereas they wont know a thing about u and i dont think u can argue this isnt a fairly significant initial advantage.
sure people might misuse stats by relying on them too much, but they could make that mistake just by being pahud+pt users and getting stats from their own db, it's not something that might happen specifically in the case they get stats on datamined hands.
edit: i should say i dont think or mean to convey the advantage gained from having datamined hands is at all huge, but its definitely not insignificant either and should be enough to bother you a little bit |
