My idea (which others besides you have convinced me was a bad one) was to engender enough trust in the scammer that he would willfully identify his FTP account name to me.

I was hoping to enlist the support of someone else (Trees perhaps?) to obtain his UB name.

My intent was to post those user names here and on 2+2 the moment they were known.

I thought of the risk created by lending some credence to the imposter, but proceeded anyway counting on a quick reply from him. That was my first and biggest blunder.

I solicited help from some known anti-scammers, but they declined to get involved. That instilled a sense of urgency in me which resulted in me suggesting to Trees to become involved.

That should rightfully be considered a colossal mistake, but in retrospect, it forced me to reveal my plan. That revelation effectively put an end to the sting, but had the benefit of ending the scam as well, albeit before the scammer could be identified.

I violated some basic tenets of scam-busting. Foremost, that I should always proceed in way that will cause no harm. As you pointed out, my efforts could have easily duped someone into thinking that they were dealing with a legitimate trader.

Secondly, I involved an unknown person.

I've learned a needed lesson here, and won't make those mistakes again.

Accusations are one thing. Evidence is another. Those who bother to examine my complete post history, and check with the people that frequent the other message boards will come away with a preponderance of evidence that support what I am claiming.

I feel that at least an olive branch shoud be offered to Trees, and a thanks as well. Despite his mis-interpretation of the event, he was instrumental in stopping a scammer, which appears to be his intent all along.

It never hurts to have another set of watchful eyes.

Alas, I suspect that soliciting a 'business' here would be considered spamming, and thus be against the rules.

If any of you decide to try this guy, use due diligence. Research them completely before sending any funds.

Also, you must not have a current exclusion using their 'responsible gaming' option. You may be able to transfer from you account, but not receive transfers.

Tell us what why you think it might not work. Perhaps we'll find an answer without trying a transfer.
