- Ben Rothwell was expected to face former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum at this event. However on August 11, Rothwell pulled out due to injury. A team representative said he may have suffered a torn meniscus and could have an ACL injury. He was replaced by Travis Browne. This will be a rematch as Werdum defeated Browne via unanimous decision at UFC on Fox: Werdum vs. Browne in 2014.
- A lightweight bout between Erik Koch and Drew Dober was originally booked for UFC 195, but Koch pulled out due to an injury and the bout was scrapped. The fight was later rescheduled for this event, until Koch pulled out again due to injury and was replaced by promotional newcomer Jason Gonzalez.
- Mairbek Taisumov was expected to face Nik Lentz at the event. However, Taisumov was removed from the fight on September 1 due to visa issues and was replaced by promotional newcomer Michael McBride on 9 days notice.
- On September 5, it was announced that the lightweight bout between Damir Hadzovic and Yusuke Kasuya, slated to open the preliminary portion of the card, was postponed and will now take place at October's UFC Fight Night 97 after Hadzovic experienced issue with his travel visa.
- Ray Borg was scheduled to face Ian McCall at the event. However, Borg pulled out of the fight on September 7 citing an illness. With no time to find a suitable replacement, McCall was removed from the card.
- On the day of the event, C.B. Dollaway was forced out of his bout against Francimar Barroso due to an injury related to riding a faulty elevator. As a result, Barroso was also removed from the event.

• Rivera > Faber
• Andrade > Calderwood
• Eye > Correia
• Lentz > McBride
• Tavares > Magalhaes
• McCall > Borg
• Medeiros > Spencer
• Dollaway > Barroso
• Dober vs. Gonzalez (dunno)
• Hadzovic > Kasuya

I think Miocic is gonna batter Overeem, just needs to be careful in the 1st.
Not at all impressed with anything Overeem has done recently, don't think he can deal with Miocic's pace even if his chin holds up early.

Going to this event! Rooting hard for Stipe but I have a bet on Overeem at +140. I've got a little bet on Gall too. Extremely bummed about their choice of replacement for Rothwell. JDS, Cain, or Black Beast all would have been great.

Like Stipe. Would be a little funny though if he charges face first and gets KO'd tryin to impress his home crowd like Werdum just did for him
Werdum-Browne is a weird, unnecessary rematch
Calderwood > Andrade
Rivera > Faber
Eye --- Correia. Not sure how anyone could want to strongly lean on either. Eye basically had a non-performance in her last fight and Bethe has always been pretty bad

Bookmaker used to have real live betting, but they removed it around January. There's no point in betting MMA on Bookmaker anymore for this very reason, as they take longer than 5dimes to release lines, and their odds are usually not as good as 5dimes. Live betting was the only reason MMA bettors went to Bookmaker.
5dimes has in-between round betting, which lets you live bet a fighter after each round is over.

How are you not impressed with Overeem knocking JDS out cold? His defense has been stellar lately and he hasn't lost a round since losing to big ben.
I think Him vs Stipe is close to a flip. Stipe chin isn't great either. Outside of being tko'd he's been wobbled a bunch of times as well. A solid overeem strike is definitely putting him down.

His fight with JDS was them tentatively prancing around each other for almost 2 full rounds throwing nothing before Reem landed a huge shot. It was a nice punch, it was not an impressive fight. It's not as though Overeem's power has ever been in question. I guess you could make the argument that Reem's footwork baffled JDS, but I think JDS just looked hesitant and terrible.
As far as Stipe's chin is concerned, he got wobbled from shots by JDS that would turn out most people's lights. I think his chin is well above average. The Struve KO looks like an anomaly to me.
No doubt Overeem can potentially turn out Stipe's lights if he lands big early, but in a fight where both guys get off and an actual rhythm is set, Overeem is fucked. Stipe's output, gas tank, and durability is on such a different level at this point, Econoreem has had a nice resurgence but it ends here.

I was really impressed by Reem recent fights. He matured a lot and now looks aware of his weaknesses and strengths and he is gameplanning accordingly.
Having said that I think Stipe is a bad match up for Overeem . He is going to put the pressure on him and test that chin. We know that Alistair does not react well to that. It is HW div and anything can happen ofcourse but I think Miocic has that fight in the bag,
The odds on Gall and Punk are funny. CM Punk really has no business in the cage and is likely to be humiliated, but Mickey Gall is not some world beater. In his last fight he beat up a MMA reporter. I mean a lot of unknowns for this fight to consider betting an anonymous can at -400+.
But Gall is a pro and Punk is like a sherdogger. Still super ev+ imo. I saw his training videos and his punches are jokes his JJ is zero, I think Gall by submission can be the bet to make.
NoRoids Reem's fight makes me so nervous unlike the Ubereem era. Seems to me the only way he wins is if he does not expose than glassy chin, but once that gets hit, even just a little, his whole world seems to come crashing down and ref just comes over and stops the fight
On September 06 2016 04:15 whamm! wrote:

Except for his last 3 fights where his opponents landed plenty of significant strikes (61 total) on him prior to them losing.
those compubox metrics count wiping my ass as a significant strike. Reems whole head seems to be suspect to even the softest looking of strikes.

I'm going to be on Gall too. Though likely small. Don't really understand the general backlash that seems to be out there to CM Punk or any of this stuff about being so certain that he sucks so much. As for the first part, the easy thing is to heckle, but I look at it like it's difficult to not respect someone who had a certain amount of fame and was probably more than financially set yet still wanted to put himself out there exposed to ridicule and fairly likely a pretty epic fail. The second part, no one outside his training camp actually knows shit. Besides the obvious general facts that MMA is really tough and more than likely, the curve is going to be way too high for a green, 35 year old athlete basically trying to skate uphill. I guess that's good enough for a 3 to 1 bet except it's not like anything's really known about Gall either besides the fact that he choked out someone who really did prove that he didn't belong in a cage.
Saw this situation being a bit compared to James Toney coming from boxing years ago to fight Randy Couture elsewhere. Yeah that fight should've been like 50:1 instead of the roughly 5 to 1 it was and comparing Toney, an all time great defensive boxer, to a guy who got paid to act out physical stuff in his underwear is a little silly. Except anyone who followed boxing knew Toney was basically just trying to cash out at the time since he was more than done as a high level boxer by then and there was pretty much an assumption that Toney's ego wouldn't allow him to even try to prepare for it the right way. That and Couture > Gall by a little bit
Guess my random rambling point is that even for hardcore MMA people, don't see why this fight has to be such a negative. It could actually be pretty good for the sport depending on what happens

[/QUOTE]
Was there a specific reason JDS looked so terrible though? Not sure if I'm forgetting if he had injuries/surgeries around and after his Stipe fight leading to Reem. I give Reem a bit more credit for that than you seem to. I've come around a bit on econo-Reem. It beats the ultra arrogant, flailing around version that got KTFO'd by Bigfoot Silva even if that version was roided. But obviously Stipe fights very differently than the recent/current JDS and I'm going to be on Stipe so hopefully you're right
A very un-technical theory that I may have just made out of thin air of why JDS looked like such shit is that he was in smack in the middle of a stage of being less confident in himself and his fighting style after his second Cain mauling and having Stipe light him up. He alluded to this a little before his recent Rothwell fight. But anyways, that combined with coming into a grudge match where he really, really didn't wanna get KO'd (Reem and JDS were sniping at each other for what seemed like a long time) made him turtle up/tentative
Hugely looking forward to this fight I really hope Overeem wins. He has accomplished so much it just feels like it would be a fitting piece of his career to become UFC champion. His style is entertaining as well he has finishing ability just about anywhere. Well spoken too, and I still like enjoy it when fighters show that Pride > UFC :D
Ubereem was arguably the most dangerous man to ever walk this planet, but Overeem isn't too shabby either.
As for Punk vs Gall I'm torn. I definitely like Punk he is well spoken and smart and by all means he should be allowed to pursue his dreams. I personally prefer with the way they have positioned themselves for UFC to be a sport, and Punk doesn't fit in too well with that. With the UFC being positioned as a sport and underpaying everyone I prefer if Gall shows the world these guys are true athletes and you can't just come in and train for two years and expect to beat even a novice. If they want to be entertainment then give me ramp entrances and a crazy show the way Pride did it.
Nik Lentz is fighting as well which always gives some added reason to root for someone for us gamers.

Main Event will surely be entertaining, but im on team Miocic as well.
The only thing im interested in around CM Punk is what his pay will be, cause im guessing it will be hilariously high which should piss off a lot of people.
I think Overeems results are more impressive on paper than in reality, he beat JDS and Miocic couldnt but I dont know why I wasnt convinced and I am a huge Reem fan... I really hope he wins but given how technical this striking fight will be I really dont know the intricacies of Miocic striking game so its hard to picture how it will go, If only Overeems chin wasnt just gone :<

We won't find out how much money Punk will make cuz the fight is in Ohio. We only find out prize purses when they fight in Las Vegas. I don't remember the reasoning for this, maybe it's up to the state or commission.

"Yesterday, C.B. Dollaway, Urijah Faber, Fabricio Werdum, Yancy Medeiros, Brad Tavares, and several others were stuck in an elevator at the Wyndham Cleveland hotel. According to Faber, the elevator "snapped" and fell to the basement with the door open. They were eventually rescued after 10 minutes or so.
Unfortunately, the elevator problems injured C.B. Dollaway's back."
Now there's only 10 fights. There will be only 1 Fight Pass fight, which is between Medeiros and Spencer.

Rivera R1. Faber moved a lot and faked a lot, but he wasn't able to land much of anything. Faber's clinch attempts in the first 1:30 of the round were all stopped by Rivera.
Rivera R2. More clear round cuz Faber's leg got owned and he couldn't get any offense going.

Your post makes no sense.
Overeem went into this fight on a 4-fight win streak. If anything, your confidence in Overeem should've increased last year or in the last year, especially after he knocked out both JDS and Arlovski.
his win streak meant something on paper, but how he changed styles he was bound to get a clean hit at some point. he gets rocked by any kind of touch to the head, probably from all the KOs hes been in over his career - most of which were really terrible ones too. nobody becomes champ with a chin like that, somebody's going to pop that bubble eventually. did you see him practically running all over the ring, and he should.

practically this. thanks whammo, you saved me some money.
Just saw the card, I hope they give Northcutt to Gall fight should be great
Miocic vs Reem... I'm glad neither went for the clinch game, actually a cool fight, both guys are beasts. Prefer that Miocic won, as he s the more entertaining fighter, super awesome he didnt force the clinch after getting rocked early, but continued the exchanges, super sick

Gonzaga was able to take all Stipes shots for 3 rounds as well which is really surprising since his chin is nearly as bad as Overeems.
Hey Im slinging mad volume and fat stackin benjies I dont got time for spellin n shit - skinny pete
Sadly Overeem is done, he is so much better than anyone else at offensive striking that he can run around the cage and nearly KO the champ while he chases him down with the left, but he simply cannot take the faintest of punches now and you cant be a top contender with that chin, the Arlovski curse is upon him and his defense is awful, all of his angles and movements are to attack, but he has no defensive head movement, no exist footowkr or angles and all he does is lift up his arms and try to cover up against the cage hoping a good punch doesnt sip through that porous static barrier.
Hunt: just lost to Brock and claims not to want to fight until he gets compensated for fighting a cheater.
Arlovski: lost three in a row including a loss to Overeem
Werdum: has a single win
JDS: has a single win and has a loss to Overeem
Cain: has one win in three years
Mir: uhh
Bigfoot: uhh
Rothwell: just lost to JDS and won't get a title shot until he is on a 10 fight winning streak
Barnett: has a single win
Browne: two losses in a row and universally hated
He's as done today as he was two days ago nothing has changed about his skillset. He got knocked out due to his chin which we were all aware of before the fight as well. He can still make a run like pretty much anyone else at heavyweight. It's a weird division a guy like that is always 1-2 wins away from another title shot. Overeem is almost guaranteed a title shot with two more wins, and arguably will get a title shot after a single win if they match him up with Werdum/Cain. He may have a glass chin and won't be able to do this for much longer anymore, but the path back to a title shot is simple in comparison to the lower weight classes. I also think that given that he knocked Stipe down and had a shot at finishing him that a rematch will come easier than it may come for some others. I'm ready to get behind a final run.
You can't see a world where they make Overeem vs Werdum (1-1) now for a title shot? I would be fucking hyped for that and it makes complete sense. Alternatively maybe Werdum fights Stipe immediately and Overeem fights someone else for the next shot.
Cain vs Miocic is the fight to make. Werdum vs Miocic 2 doesnt have any sense since he just got Ko by him and his win against Browne was awful. Maybe if Overeem had won the werdum fight would be the one (cause the trilogy and they are 1-1).
Can someone explain the mickey gall "fuck the hate" thing?
I think Gall is speaking out against people who hate on Punk for pursuing his dream. If you ask me this hate is poorly directed it should either be the UFC or none.

Following some discussions in mma lol @ people thinking Punk made too much at $500,000. He made so much more than that with PPV points and deserves every bit of it.
I told you people will be angry :D
Its for the UFC to say if it was worth it, if he improved their numbers by a lot. I highly doubt it.
It sucks for professionals when you gotta watch how a newbo that is only signed only for marketing value banks tons of cash, while you are fighting for 50k $ a fight as a top10 fighter

Jon Jones expressed desire to fight Stipe for HW title... that would be amazing but its a long shot.
I shit you not, Its exactly what i thought would happen after I read Nazgul's post. This would be so awesome, especially considering JBJ wont be huge in that division and wont be able to throw people around as he wishes. Was not sure what was the development with his suspension though, guess he s coming back soon

Cat zingano's tweets encapsulate all the incredibly out of touch or just plain ignorant notions of how the world works from some of the complaining fighters. '8k/8k vs 500k when I had real wrestling credentials and was undefeated'. As if any of that matters when you're comparing someone very known to the masses switching 'sports' thereby creating a public spectacle (good or bad)...to yourself...a completely unknown female fighter debuting at a time when barely anyone gave a shit about women fighting women
And I'm someone who roots for Cat every time and on the flip side, am still utterly confused as to how WWE has remained a viable business for so long. But if you don't understand the reasoning for why the pays are what they are, going to be a tough road out there for you if you do anything at all business related ever
Look don't get me wrong they have every reason to be upset with the UFC. The reason they should be upset is that UFC is effectively a monopoly that is unwilling to see the other end of the table or give them 'market value' despite building their success on their health. It's too extreme. They earn the UFC way, way more money than they get paid, but without competitors nor a union they are not able to see any of it. It's not Punk's fault however he should pursue his dreams and get paid for the work he has put into his career. The only reason why Punk can get paid like this is because he's not from the sport and so he doesn't adhere to the same negotiation tactics fighters do.
one word. boxers. they've been around since george washington and they still get paid shit. gtfo if you expect to make a decent living when pursuing MMA as a career. The CM punk fight was a WWE event inserted in an MMA one. He got paid the way he should

Bellator is quickly becoming a good competitor for the UFC I think they will get better salaries soon

In my experience many if no most people dont truly understand/care how the freemarket works, you see often people complaining how much a cop or doctores does compared to some football superstars.. the worst of all is that they are football fans themselves lol

Your statement is seriously absurd. Just because you saw a complete irrelevant noname in boxing earn $1,000 doesn't mean they earn less per their ability to draw an audience.

It's getting a little better, but overall even when Strikeforce was around with a much better roster than the UFC the salaries were way too low. The main reason is that Bellator can never compete with the UFC product and reach so a fighter can't be worth the same for them as it is for the UFC. If Bellator breaks even paying someone $100,000 the UFC could be making $500,000 off of the same guy, therefor Bellator really isn't commercially capable of raising market values high enough even if it helps.
No , the real question is how does something like WWE still exist and has audience. This seems to be one of the most absurd things ever. It used to be popular here among the 8-12 yos when I was that age and thats about it. But that was a long time ago, how can a grown man pay to watch that crap. Id literally prefer to pay to watch 2girls1cup

I think it depends a lot, for example a "fighter" like Royce Gracie has much more value to Bellator than to UFC even maybe a fighter like Rory McDonald that is just another contender is worth more to Bellator, how much money they can squeeze of them is difficult to know I am not confident enough to claim that the UFC can squeeze more out of Rory than Bellator. Sure they have a much bigger platform and reach but also their roster is so big this effect gets diluted drastically.
Its almost impossible to defeat a behemot company that is handling all its angles right, the UFC is "lucky" to not be a public company but still the Fertitas have been squeezing a bit too tight since the Reebok deal, fighters are angry about the pay especially with the (justified) disparity in wages published so I think they are setting up things up for Bellator to grow fast, and it has.
The problem with Strikeforce is that they didnt grow organically, their operational costs were too big for their revenue and in order to do that you need a big big player willing to gamble for a big chunk of market share and Strikeforce didnt have that so it blew up, Bellator is being more cautions and smarter.

People say the same thing about Game of Thrones or any other show or event. Different people like different things
This was the first UFC event I've been to and it was awesome. The place went absolutely apeshit for Stipe. There were a bunch of wrestling fans there. Idk if you could hear it on tv but the crowd kept breaking in to Rick Flair Whooooo chants. Punk brought a lot of attention to the event.
