Other

- Promotional newcomer Emil Weber Meek was scheduled to face fellow newcomer Jessin Ayari at the event. However, Meek was removed from the fight on July 20 due to "compliance" issues, related to the UFC’s Anti-Doping Policy. One week later, he was replaced by another newcomer: Jim Wallhead.
- Reza Madadi was expected to face Rustam Khabilov at the event. However on July 25, Madadi pulled out due to undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Leandro Silva.
- A long rumored fight between Henry Briones and Brad Pickett was expected to take place on the card. However, Briones was replaced in early August for undisclosed reasons by Iuri Alcantara. Subsequently, that pairing was rescheduled to take place a month later at UFC 204.
- Aisling Daly was expected to face former Invicta FC Atomweight Champion Michelle Waterson at the event. However, Daly was pulled from the fight on August 9 due to injury. Promotion officials reportedly searched to replace Daly in an attempt to keep Waterson on the card. In turn, Waterson was removed from the card after injuring her finger.
- Germaine de Randamie was scheduled to face Ashlee Evans-Smith on the card. However, de Randamie pulled out of the fight in mid-August citing a foot injury and was replaced by Veronica Macedo.
- A featherweight bout between promotional newcomers Martin Buschkamp and Alex Enlund was scrapped from the card during the week leading up to the event due to Enlund being injured.

Hm for me this UFC is a quite nerve wrecking personal thing since i have trained with or been on the same fightcard with many of the guys.

Jessin Ayari is still a good friend ,
We train in the same gym from time to time and he was my main training partner from 2009-2011 when i was still a fighter and we both competed in local MMA events.

I have trained in the same gym with Jaris Danho through 2013 and seen his strength and weakness during sparring Sessions. Also i am good friend with his former MMA Trainer Nils Stücke before he joined Hammers Gym (Where i was MMA Trainer back then)

I have been on many seminars together with Peter Sobotta and i have been to BJJ Competitions with Martin Buschkamp. I also have trained a bit with his older brother Thomas Buschkamp
And i have been on same fightcards with Nick Hein in the past and remember him being a very nice guy at the weigh ins.

I really hope for all these guys winning their fights.
I wish i could say they will steamroll their competition... but i am absolutely unsure of what will happen.

They are all good fighters
Still they all have more or less some really weak spots in their game (Which in my opinion makes it very unlikley for them to break through to the TOP 10)
except for Martin Buschkkamp who unfortunately is off

U see what i did there with A8 ? He 4 bets and there we go insta jam A8 : ---booooom -- . hahahaha ( Krantz)Last edit: 30/08/2016 16:16

Thoughts on Ayari vs Wallhead

Jessin Ayari

He is a typical grinder. Someone who goes steady 75% pace through 5 rounds and just makes u tired.
Jessins strength is his natural endurance which is off the hook.
I have never ever in my life seen him tired and i have trained with him 100rds of hours.

He can go Sparring with 5 different guys for 1h and all 5 guys will be exhausted while he still can go the same 75% pace he did from start.

Also he is basically not submittable on the ground.
I have seen him roll with lots of blackbelts and i have never ever seen him being submitted.
In fact in all my time i trained with him i cant recall him being submitted ever.
His submission defence is as good as the best level Blackbelts.

+ Exceptionally good Endurace
+ Imo he wont be submitted ever

Well but as i stated above there is also a downside to his abilities.

Jessin is not a fight finisher.

He has good boxing skills concerning distance, movement , evading , etc... but simply lacks the K.O. punching power
He will go his 75% Speed all day and never will explode
Also he might never get submitted... but his game heavly relying on defence and control also makes it difficult to submit other guys.
he gets into real problems when for a brief amount of seconds his 75% pace cant match someones 100% explosion.

Both Jessin and Jim Wallhead have fought against Juan Manuel Suarez and won.
While Jessin took a clear descision grind win and clealry dominated Suarez without ever beeing near a finish ->
Jim Wallhead knocked him out in the 1st round in less than 2 minutes.
Jim Wallhead also knocked out Rafal Moks .

I think this is a very tough fight to call.

In order to win Jim Wallhead will have to take risks.

Either Jessins wins bei Descison or Submission
or he will get knocked out early when for a brief moment Wallhead manages to explode and hit hard.

U see what i did there with A8 ? He 4 bets and there we go insta jam A8 : ---booooom -- . hahahaha ( Krantz)

Wallhead changed camps 4 fights ago or so and has been doing much better.

No idea who will win since I've never seen Ayari fight before, and I don't have time for research this week.

I just can't see Arlovski winning against any HW. Like, on Earth.

A gust of wind, and he does the chicken dance.

But seriously, I'm predicting that the first strike that even clips him will wobble him and then he'll be finished soon after.

Barnett wont be able to connect with Arlovski on the stand up and he has a very good sprawl, Im leaning on Arlovski on this one but I think the clinch against the cage is a big factor on this one since Barnett will be looking for that all the time but I dont remember anyone pushing Arlovski to the fence and how did it go...

4 to 1 favorite Khabilov barely does anything in a fight that should've been a draw, as neither the fighters nor anyone watching won anything, then calls for Pettis or Barboza in his next fight. Good look guy

PuertoRican   United States. Sep 03 2016 18:17. Posts 13051

Sigh...

My teams are pretty much dead since Askham lost, and Danho's fight ended in a Draw... A draw is basically a loss on DK.

Macedo showed some nice skill, but she was too small, and took the fight on short notice, so Smith was able to use her size to easily win after R1.

Considering she only went pro 6 months ago, she did pretty darn well.

This is one of those UFC cards that has random results. It'll rape your bankroll if you try betting every fight.

• Sobotta looked amazing and even dropped Dalby with strikes b4 winning a decision.
• Smith actually won ITD. However, it was due to Macedo rolling for knee bars when she was already tired and got TKO`ed cuz she couldn't get out of the corner.
• Lapilus fought smart and defended the take downs. This was the only clear pick + result thus far.
• Danho vs. Colombo ended in a draw.
• Hermansson looked good in his UFC debut while Askham didn't.
• Khabilov barely beat Silva and he was 4-1 favorite.

Considering how the fights looked on paper, there's some weird results thus far.

+ a million

I watched the first and third fights before checking out til now thinking those were 2 of the worst fights I've seen in a long time and also thinking both fights shoulda been a draw so as to not reward either performance

Danho's strategy of closing his eyes and ducking to throw a barely aimed overhead right before huffing his way into a clinch only to intentionally put both hands on the ground to classify as grounded was pretty disgusting. Followed by somehow being completely gassed doing that for barely a few minutes. Made me have a little less respect for the notion that all fighters should be paid a certain minimum

Good thing all of my teams died early, cuz more random outcomes keep popping up.

I had bader twice on pretty dead lineups and latifi once on a live one with Gus and Andrei left. Happy for bader though. Good guy. And not his fault rumble was in his way and the guy could knock out a horse

iakim322   United States. Sep 03 2016 21:31. Posts 1335

Pretty decent fight even if it was 30-27 for Gus to

traxamillion   United States. Sep 03 2016 21:31. Posts 10468

gus got dominated on his feet and looked like shit but jan can't defend a takedown at all or get off his back so gus wins.

after seeing that gus has 0 equity vs rumble. he will never have a belt

jan won the first round too... should have been 29-28 not 30-27

Gustafsson looked bad.

Hopefully he doesn't fight Cormier or Rumble or Jones for awhile.

Gus's takedowns are sneakily underrated. But yeah still way too hittable so yea drawing dead vs rumble. Same with dc to a bit lesser degree but dc doesn't have more than a cpl years left prob

surprised arlovski survived that mount... if he hadnt of had his takedown reversed he may have been up 2 rounds

Barnett didn't look his best out there, but he got the job done.

Arlovski should be cut after this, or matched up against the winner of Bigfoot and Roy Nelson on September 24.

Good grit from grandpa Barnett. Andrei obviously had his early moments but he actually looked up at the clock midway through that very first round when he was kinda stalling with Barnett on the ground. Hopefully does retire. That cardio isn't getting better

I am sad that Danho confirmed his terrible performance from his UFC debut yet with another underwhelming performance.

I hurts to say , since i know him , have trained with him and i know that he works very very hard.
But truth is -> Danho just isnt premium material from a fighters competitive sports view. Never was and never will be.

I have seen him/his mind "quit" soo many times now.during fights both in competition and training... When things dont run as planned the first 2 minutes he just simply doesnt want to be in there anymore.
He shuts down like a kid competing in 1000m running who after 500m stops and decides it rather wants to be somewhere else and have a good time.

As an MMA fighter you have to enjoy "violence". you have to enjoy feeling pain as much as delivering pain.
you have to feel comfortable and alive when things get dangerous.

You have to love the feeling of being in danger.

Danho isnt like that.
Danho loves learning boxing .
Danho loves learning MMA.
He loves learning new stuff. But deep down i think he just doesnt love fighting.

He doesnt want to be a killer who enjoys violence.... he just wants to test himself. He is not the guy who enjoys being in a real fight with pain and blood and struggles

I am happy for Ayari though.
Not interesting to watch for viewers.. but still impressive imo

It doesn't seem as if Germany will produce any legit prospects for awhile, which kinda sucks.

Sobotta did good tonight, but let's be real, he won't ever challenge for the title, let alone be a top-5 UFC fighter.

Danho... ...nobody expected him to be good, but he's worse than we thought.

Hein... ...it's impossible for him to look impressive in the octagon, even with the low level the UFC keeps feeding him in his return to Germany 1 time per year.

Ayari did good tonight, and I expect him to TKO his next opponent with his style, but he still has a lot of work to do. If he moves to USA and joins a legit team, he can probably go the furthest out of these 4 guys who represent Germany.
