I am gonna build myself a new computer.

Here it is: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/4cHkd6

This should be able to run most games in 1440p with 144 FPS
Can't wait to see it in action.
My friend is gonna help me build it on august 8

You're not using the right version of pcpartpicker. Your parts are all linking to US websites. Switch to Canada to find the best Canadian deals.

FYI I got the same video card and it's an amazing card, but it doesn't reach close to 144 fps in the most demanding games like modded Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 on ultra settings. Around 100-110 in most areas though (at 1080P). With G-sync on top of it, it's really smooth.

And you should really invest in an overclockable setup with an aftermarket cooler for a gaming PC.

"And you should really invest in an overclockable setup with an aftermarket cooler for a gaming PC."

Are you sure tho? Most experts said its a bit of an overkill at this point.

Well i mean, it would be "better" but i decided my budget is 2500$ because i wanted to set a limit at some point
I mostly play overwatch so it should perform pretty well.

1070 will destroy overwatch

I'd look into getting a better processor, an i7 so you get hyperthreading (doubles the cores) should be a lot more future-proof. The i7-6700k is only ~50% more expensive than what you chose and will work with your current setup if you decide to go that route.

I agree that overclocking is a waste of time unless you enjoy the process of doing it. You're going to invest 10-20+ hours into researching/overclocking/troubleshooting + extra $ for cooling, in return you get a <15% increase in performance that you will never use.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i used this site for my build: http://www.logicalincrements.com/
I went with "outstanding" build.

This essentially explains you what kind of processor you need for each cards.
For a GTX 1070, that I5 6500 is all you need.
Most shops stupidly gives you super powerfull processors with crap cards, which is horribad for gaming.

That being said, i guess that if in 3-4 years i decided to ugrade my GPU, then ill also need to ugrade my CPU.
But i went on reddit asking experts of computer building and most agreed this was a good build.

I guess its easy to say "hey for just 200$ more, u get an I7!". But then "for just 300$ more, u get the GTX 1080!". And then you also need to ugrade the motherboard, PSU, etc. And then you end up with the Enthusiast build, which is simply a massive unneeded overkill for overwatch

i got the amd 8 core and lemme tell you, for it's price, it's really good. (think i got it for 100 at the time) (thought this would require a different motherboard)
gold certified power supply doesn't mean anything, either. its just a way to bump up the price
I would choose a different gpu. new cards are never a good idea to get. (overpriced, might not be the next flagship card, gonna suck if it doesn't work or craps out after a month for that price)
ram is also probably excessive. ive been running good on 8 gigs.

Are u refering to the FX-8370?
It looks alright, but mine is 21% faster, doubt it would run my GTX 1070. Reason i went for the GTX1070 is because I wanted to run overwatch at ultra settings, 1440p and 144 FPS

Actually, looking at this: http://www.logicalincrements.com/games/overwatch

It most likely still won't be enough, but i will turn off some useless annoying settings and it should run it.

Also note my screen can overclock to 165 fps with g sync

For the ram ur most likely right but it was almost the same price and i tend to have lots of stuff open

if you look at the gpu price history you can see it's dropped about 200 bucks since its release which wasn't long ago at all
you could probably wait another month or so and get it for cheaper or on sale. you would probably feel a little regret getting it now and then six months later seeing it at 250. but is that 150 you saved worth it for waiting? thats up to you
then again im content with low poly over high detail.

(its actually funny because my gpu bottlenecks my cpu)

Smuft   Canada. Jul 31 2016 01:50. Posts 633

yeah your research is solid, only good reason to go to an i7 is for the future where you might want to try out VR or some other CPU intensive game. For an extra 100-150$, it's worth considering IMO

I played a bit overwatch in beta at 4k on default settings with a GTX 970 and an i7 4790k, can't remember exact FPS but it was smooth enough that i'd never considering upgrading past that if all I wanted to do was play overwatch

Keep in mind 1440p does not require as much power as 4K. Running overwatch on 4K at 165 FPS on ultra settings would require a BEAST of a computer lol
But i didn't even consider it because 4K screens with 144 FPS with g sync just does not exist.

The thing is, that "future" argument can be used for pretty much any parts. I could get GTX 1080 for a little more too. But then, for a little more id need a better psu, a better motherboard, etc.
I feel like the "outstanding tier" was best for me. It will run most games i play at REALLY good settings, and in 2-3 years when it starts to fall behind, then i will replace the CPU and GPU for much better prices.

Of course computer parts price will drop with time. I guess the "outstanding" tier i went with is a bit on the "loose" side.
The reason i went for it is because, i researched a lot on the net, and apparently, 144 FPS makes A HUGE difference, AND 1440p makes a HUGE difference. I wanted both of them. And to run both of those, you need a fairly strong computer....

Doesn't have to be a perfect enthusiast OC. Just a mild OC that takes a couple hours to do. At least he would have the headroom to OC it some more in the following years. A CM 212 EVO is pretty cheap and completely worth it over the stock intel fan imo.

The "outstanding build" does include an aftermarket cooler which isn't in your pcpartpicker list. It's the 212 EVO which I think is worth every penny.

agreed with Smuft I see no good reason to CAP your computer at the processor, Id go for an i7, that monitor is exensive as fuck

The cooler is if you go for the 6600K version and you overclock. If you don't overclock, stock fans is enough.

Only ugrading the processor isn't gonna improve game performance much if i still only have a GTX 1070.

Right now, my current Laptop is a stupid laptop i bought in the stores for 1600$ 3 years ago.
It had an I7, which is actually really strong even today, but it had a crap video card which is like 10x worst than a GTX 1070
So right now, i can barely play overwatch on lowest settings at 60 fps.

TLDR: its useless to have a sick processor if your video card sucks for gaming.

Monitor is super expansive because its one of only monitor that does 144 FPS+ AND 1440p AND g-sync AND IPS
And all of those are pretty important for gaming imo.

Go look again. The "outstanding" build you linked to with the 6500 has a 212 EVO. The 6600k is paired with a Ereboss or a NH-U12S for bigger OC. There are no stock HSF recommendations for any builds above "superb".

I think thats because the I5 6500 actually CAN overclock. But i don't plan on over clocking.
Just google it, if you don't over clock its fine... well anyways thats what my co worker told me and thats what i've found on the web. worst case, i actually have the cpu temp/fps activated in overwatch, so if i actually see it does overheat well ill order a cooler
I suppose you could argue its retarded to not get it just to save 40$ on a 2500$ build, but i mean, if its useless, its useless
