Not surprised. I am not a fan of any religion, and the extremists are a bunch of crazy people ok, but the consent of muslim population towards violent acts really kills me inside. They feel like they are in a perpetual state of war with the west and their mission will not end until islam is the only religion in the world (according to the quran). It's ridicolous really.

also have you actually been to japan? they're very advanced in some aspects but also extremely backward in others, e.g. womens' rights and equality of opportunity, conservative hierarchical social and corporate structures, sexualisation of minors, extreme xenophobia.
