I figure he'd normally just shove river with a hand he'd be c/c a shove with, so is turning my hand into a bluff ok?

I called flop/turn because I have an 8, and theres two 7s on the board, so its unlikely he has set/2pair.

I like the bet more than checking. We could potentially fold out few minor overpairs and we get harder to play against when we shove these hands along w stuff like 9T

If you think that villain will fold ~50%(45% is breakeven, I think) of the time, then river bluff is a good play. I agree with jhyun too.
