Thailand is sick, lived there for almost a year.

Just be weary, its not dangerous as in you're gonna get beat up/robbed, but you will get scammed, they're quite expert lol

Also, never get into a fight with a Thai dude, even if you're in the wrong, keep smilling and don't get angry, it never ends well when a foreigner fights a thai

This. My mate and I eventually set up a simple rule of never ever accepting a product or service which was offered to us, but only ones we had approached for ourselves. It seemed to work out pretty well. Also practise your haggling at the beginning by actually walking away even from a deal you want (there will be others for sale), just to see how low people go.

If you want to go to one of the best cafes I have ever seen take the water taxi to a stop where there is a huge blue glass skyscraper. Exit, and take a left when you get on to the main road. Walk about 15 minutes untio you pass a shopping mall and go under a footbridge. On the right you will see a small bungalow which is a cafe. Enter and enjoy. I am aware there is a one in a billion chance of these instructions being successfully followed, but this was the only time I really felt I was eating what the locals do because we got drunk and went on a very long mission to the most untourist areas we could.

If you are going down south to the islands I invite you to play The Game. To play The Game you have to be standing in the blue shallows off a bay of a tropical island. As I'm sure you can now appreciate, the hardest bit of this is finding a suitable playing field, and you now have a rare opportunity. Now get a large plastic bottle and fill it with whisky and coke in a 1:1 ratio. Then you stand in the bay approximately 12 metres apart, and one person throws the bottle to the other. If they catch the bottle they may drink some as their reward, but if they drop the bottle they must drink some as their punishment. Repeat. As an aside I have never really seen the point in drinking games where you have to avoid drinking. I usually ruin them therefore, but The Game is not so silly.

Also if you go to the islands and hire mopeds, as you surely will, it is very important you do so from somewhere large and reputable such as your resort. When you hire a moped they take your passport as collateral, and one hears many stories that upon return of the vehicle, they claim you have damaged x and y and basically fuck you over and don't give you your passport back until you give them lots of money. If you hire a jeep which is fun as fuck, make absolutely sure it is insured.

Don't take drugs the risks are too high. Use condoms. Have fun!!

p.s. thai hookers down on the islands are the best pool players I have ever met in my life and I used to be a semi pro/hustler. They are simply amazing. If pool is your thing, go into a lady bar, make it quite explicit you are not there to pay for sex and spend a night drinking and playing pool with the girls. Some of the funnest nights I have ever had. Don't play them for money - they are highly skilled hustlers.
