I haven't blogged in a long fucking time, and with good reason, personally i was planning to just post poker results and not talk about anything else, but then i realize that no one else in the world (other than my coaches and people i talk poekr with) will understand anything about poker. This is going to be a long fucking post. You've been warned.

So, lets begin

I play mainly FR. I've been coached by the biggest 1/2 winner on FTP last year... I've also been coached by a very successful and respected MSNL player who is now playing at 5/10, 25/50 at FTP. Both these coaches have told me that i am extremely capable, and SHOULD be beating the stakes they taught me at (nl100 and nl200), respectively. SO CLEARLY I SHOULD BE WINNING LOTS? ehh not so much, but its mostly my own fault. I made 60 BI at nl100 over 100k hands (while running 20 bi below ev) after getting coached and was very happy with my progress. I started taking shots at nl200 and broke even, which i was fine with. My new coach taught me alot of new moves and things to look for - exploitable leaks that ALOT of "solid" regs have, and i started playing with certain lines and trying out new things. This didn't work very well and i lost a bunch in the learning process.

Then i started to run bad. Not "run bad" as in OH MY GOD MY ACES KEEP GETTING SUCKED OUT ON, my AIEV was pretty standard (only liek 5-6 bi below ev) . It was moreso spots where i would be like "okay, in this spot, villain has this range, and only this hand beats me. by the line he's taking and my image , i should be good here a large amount of the time". then i call, or shove, and get raped by the nuts. This happened over about 25k~ hands or so, but was enough to severely cripple my roll. To date, i've lost about 20~25 BI at nl200. which sucks.

I've since moved back down to nl100 and find the amount of fish SO much more plentiful. It's insane how many bad players are at these stakes, how unbalanced they are, and how they decide that turning hands with SDV into pure bluffs is +EV IN SOME SPOTS.

So yeah, i'm very disappointed in my poker results so far. I've withdrawn alot and paid for coaching, so i went from about a 12k~ roll to around 4k. I'm going to be putting in about 50-70k hands at nl100, 9-10 tabling , focusing on making good decisions and nothign else. Hopefully this downswing will turn around and i'll be able to make 30-40 BI and take a second shot at nl200. I'm extremely disappointed and a little depressed, but i know that i possess the tools to be able to beat nl200.

So why else do i think i havent been winning over the last 3 weeks?

Welps, running bad doesnt help, but isnt the be all end all of excuses. I probably wasnt playing my A game because, i had the FUCKING SWINE FLU for 3 weeks. I decided that playing poker while sick and tired would be a good idea, and subsequently my bigggest losing sessions were during this time period. In my mind i'm "playing fine", but subconciously im playing horrendously and dont realize it because im too tired to make concious, thoguht out decisions. Also, i was eating like fucking garbage (tired and sick), not eating enough, and exercising nowhere near enough.

I've said this so many fucking times, poker + emotional control + health = do well. If one of these pieces is lacking ,it all falls apart, ESPECIALLY for me. The fact i was out of shape, tired all the time, eating liek garbage + running bad = i deserved to lose alot.

To add on, i bombed my finals (i only ended up getting a B+ in one course which i feel i should have got an A in), and got a fucking F in calculus (i somehow apparently bombed the final...). I've taken calculus THREE fucking times. I'm on academic probation this year. What does this mean? B+ + F = not a high enough gpa to stay in university = i get kicked out.

So i mailed the dean and both my professors to see what the fuck happened to my tests, and hopefully i can work something out to get my life straightened out. I am 100% sure once i get my life straightened out i'll be able to win in poker, get straight A's in school, and succeed at life again ultimately. These past 3 weeks have been fucking brutal for me.

guys- never, EVER stop exercising or eating well. It can do nothing but be detrimental to your poker career, and ultimately, your lifestyle. seriously. even a 20 minute walk and eating more vegetables instead of fast food or sleeping in will help you so, so so much

If you guys have made it through this rant, thanks for reading, maybe share your thoughts if you've gone through something similar.

GL at the tables and life gentlemen. I wont be making a blog post again until i've gotten back on the right track. Here's to hoping for a post within a couple weeks.

Merry xmas and gl again

-wils

p.s cliff notes

-i dont think i'm the best player at 1/2 or nl100, but i def think i can be a winning player
-lost a bunch online via running bad a bit, but mostly from being sick and deciding to play while extremely fatigued
-basically on a small life downswing
-ALWAYS EXERCISE AND DONT EAT LIKE SHIT, when your lifestyle sucks, everything else will suck as well, poker included. nothing but bad things come from sleeping in and eating garbage

-_-~

"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first. " - Mark Twein.

Seriously, you're probably running bad and all that crap but that's no excuse to fuck up your life or stop trying to improve. Sure, I do it all the time, but I try to stop. Although you're probably pretty good you took at least 2 lines in your last ~7-8 posted hands that are just bad. Not horrid, but just not possible to defend with any kind of logical argument in a meaningful way.

Also, I think you're overthinking stuff. The standard lines are standard for a reason and if you're not either very sure that your alternative line is better for so reason or that you'll be able to think about it afterwards instead of just go "oh fuck, top of range" you shouldn't fuck around to much.

I for one are breakeven over 4-5 months now, but I've made a fair bit over 100k€ for the year. Last month I ran as crap, and I've done that for a decent period but it's only when I actually move down and re-evaluate that I can actually turn it around. Bottom line is that I probably never was as good as I think I am and the same is probably true for you and 90%+ of all poker players. So get of that damn high horse, except that much of your success were probably due to running good but that as long as you continue to lean new stuff and get better you'll be able to win money in the long run.

Good luck recovering on all fronts. Epically true advice about the exercising and eating well.

Researchers used brain scans to show that when straight men looked at pictures of women in bikinis, areas of the brain that normally light up in anticipation of using tools, like spanners and screwdrivers, were activated.

ive played with u before, only tips i can say are steal from the sb more, steal from the button less, and shove over 4bets more often (with hands like ak and qq, sometimes jj where appropriate such as btn vs bb). gl

my only tip for you:

- if u run bad at ftp, go improve elsewhere (stars etc) sounds retarded but i've noticed when people struggle there, its a black hole almost impossible to get out of for some reason and they just leave the site after wasting a lot of time
