Before buying go and take a look at his financial statements to see how the shop does overall before jumping into it. There could be a number of factors of why he wants to sell it and offloading a losing money venture on you could be one of them.

Just use your head. Hire somebody to pick that place apart, accountant, building inspector, etc. Find out every last detail about the place. Contact anybody he's done business with in the past, wholesalers, phone/electric companies, business/downtown associations, etc. Maybe look into the possibility of a partner and if you decide that this is something you want to go for (which would be awesome) make sure this is the line of business you'd like to invest in, and if it is, whether or not this particular store is the best option (are there any store's with a better local, more reputable, more profitable, etc.) Either way, best of luck and hope you keep us updated!

I remember I used to blade when I was like 10-13. When I moved back to Germany from Sweden all the guys skated in my class except for me. So I got a skateboard for christmas, and I like practised for 6 months straight at home til I felt confident enough to be better than them. Eventually they all stopped, I continued another year and then I stopped.
