Hey guys,
I really want/need to learn spanish. I have had two years of highschool and one semester of college, as well as some light exposure during childhood to the language, but I'm fuckin balls-awful and I especially have no vocabulary.
So I need some advice on how to go about learning? I'd like to use Rosetta Stone but there is NO way I can blow hundreds of dollars on it. derp,
What about an alternative program? Has anyone had any experience with a certain spanish learning website, or free programs, or inexpensive products?
Thanks guys!

as an aside (I'll prolly make another post about this later on), anyone have any tips/pointers to good resources on how to set up a not-for-profit business entity? ie is my only choice to do it as a corporation or LLC (and thus have certain mandatory state fees etc), or are there ways to do not-for-profit proprietorships or some kind of other hybrid entity?
I'll OFC do my own research but this is part of it |

im doing rosetta stone. took spanish in high school (10 years ago). at the time i could read spanish ok, write it not so well, speak it worse, hear it not at all.
its definitely helpful. if you put in the hours and do the whole program im not sure how you wouldnt be fluent in spanish. i dont know what the other thing is though to say if its nearly as good. locoos advice is great, but i think you should complement it with actually learning the language formally |

If you're going to pay money to learn Spanish, you might as well go to the local community college and learn it from someone who can be hands on with you.
I have Rosetta Stone for Korean level 1.
- I used it for a short while and got bored with it.
- At first you want to learn a new language, but once you actually get the program you will most likely get bored with it.
- They start you off with showing you pictures and try to get you to remember words via picture memory. After a few levels you will get bored and probably stop.
I lived in Korea for a little while, I learned much more from living there and picking up new words everyday and memorizing them. It was easier this way because I was around people who spoke mostly Korean, even though most people in Seoul know at least a little English to answer questions you ask and they are eager to learn the English language once you start talking to them first.
I currently take a Korean language class at my college, I find it much more helpful than Rosetta stone, because with the Korean language, it's much more than just learning the words and forming sentences. There's multiple ways to say the same thing, and also it depends on how old the person is you're talking to. (Unlike the English language, for the most part.)
Having a teacher who can help you with any question you might have when learning a new language is key to success, and you also want to have someone to talk to in that new language and help you spell/pronounce/write correctly in that new language. |

You dont NEED to learn spanish. Trust me on that. Anyone worth dealing with in this world speaks english. However, if you're looking to enrich your life and open up possibilities during travel then I suggest you learn it. But need? No such thing. That was just a bunch of bullshit educational institutions plastered into people's minds. |
