Shut up & Grind D1 by d.Apollo, January 10

After my rant in my last blog, I went out last night, blew some steam, had few beers, socialized and just bascially chilled out.

Today iam going to start the 'Shut up & Grind' challenge as such, where I'll post up my bankroll improvements/daily stats/graphs.

I start today at $84.14, obvioulsy playing at 2nl and moving up at a standard 20buyins working on what people have commented on in my last blog, thanks for comments btw. x

Maynard style shot by Night2o1, January 10

So I decided to try out Maynard's suggestion and take my nl50 shot now instead of at the end of the month..

I think I played pretty well and stuff but what can you do?

Sigh..

Sometimes variance just kicks you in the balls:

11.76BB/100 seems pretty sustainable AMIRITE?

But really, I'm pretty happy. HEM says I ran way above EV, but it was from holding while having the best hand, not sucking out from behind. So that's cool.

$100 of this graph was me playing nl20 recovering from a 5bi downswing. I was happy with my day but didn't feel like sleeping. Loaded up some NL50 tables for a 2BI shot and I won just under 2BI instead I am not sure if I am 100% ready for nl50, but next time I play I will take another 2BI stop loss shot.

At one of my tables there was this fish who ran hotter than one thousand suns. He had a spell where he picked up AA 3 times in ~15 hands, stacked two people for a full BI plus a shorty for 1/2 a BI. Then he kept running like god and stacked one of those guys he stacked 10 minutes ago with underset rivered quads vs other guy's overset. His stack was like $225 haha.

I really owe the session to not getting into any insanely tricky spot, and not getting coolered/sucked out on for more than 25bbs.

Biggest pot I've been in for months:

Spewing 1st hand at this table. Worst played hand I've had all week, I think.

[NL10] Day 1 by Uptown, January 10

Pretty comfortable so far, sometime I find myself not being aggressive where I should be, but it's a process I guess.

Break even day due to RB, WOW! by Oddeye, January 09

Wow what a sick day, I got 1 outtered 3 time, lost the majority of my flip at the beginning of the day, won a couple to help rebuild after, had 3 million random suckout. I know I should be really really up, but I guess I am half satisfied with only down 1k (and +1k rb)... I was down almost 5k at some point. I will put in another sick day tomorrow some expect some crazy action. Today I was really pissed I hope I didn't piss any of you too, anyway gl, I'm off to Warhammer playing that engineer.

PS. To talented tom, you wanted to know how I put that many hours in that game that make me tilt like nothing else?
Basically I just bring some good food around my computer, or take really small break to cook and I always eat while playing. I don't know your personal style, but I play a massive amount of table... so if I play pretty good I take in massive profit, but if I have running slightly bad I can tighten up and get action with my monster just so I cool off (I am quite bad at the part tightening up). You really just gotta not quit based on result (and something I've been trying *failing* to do is not look at cashier, but I don't think it's really a problem for you, you don't seem very result oriented.

[NL5] post-commitment by Uptown, January 09

It has been a week since my commitment to truly improve at the game rather than monkey around and masstable robot mode. I've made an effort to read threads, post HH's here at LP and face the inevitable criticism. With each bash on the back of the head for idiot moves, I sincerely feel myself examining the situation better and being aggressive, shedding my weak tight ways little by little.

The results have been quite spectacular, though nothing can be sure since I only have about 9000 hands to show for it. 4 tabling slow tables does put a dampener on things. I have tried to put in 1k+ hands each day and have succeeded for the most part. I table select religiously, usually by seeking out the tight regs and sitting to the right of them (which naturally leaves the looser ones to my right).

I play 14/11/5 or 13/10/5, something in this area. It has its flaws of course, but it suffices for now. Postflop situation evaluation has been facilitated by adding in about 8 more stats on the HUD and taking notes like a maniac. It is excellent to know exactly what a villain's weak lead means, etc.

I have taken 3 shots at NL10 before, with mixed success. Each time I felt like I was getting a little more used to how things were at the next level. I had convinced myself before this recommitment to the game that I would grind out 30bis before taking another shot at NL10. However, Maynard's BR Management Blog has me wavering. My brain completely understands his logic and agrees with it. However, my mental weakness is what i worry about, as I felt that last time i took a shot at NL10, I still was not playing "normally". The pressure of 'only having 2bis' seemed to be getting to me.

I currently sit at 21 bi's for NL10, seriously contemplating taking a 3bi or so shot into NL10. I am beating NL5 for about 13.5ptbbs/100, albeit over a microscopic sample size, as previously mentioned.

Any thoughts, suggestions or feedback is welcome.
Here is a graph just to make myself happy.

Lagging by k2o4, January 09

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to play more LAG as I move up so I decided to practice it today. Played 25/22 and it was quite interesting and very fun. I stuck to 6-8 tables and wasn't at all bored, so that's a major plus. I ran kinda bad and only won 1 BI over 2k hands though. I think I did spew a bit in medium pots. Went for value a bit too thin a few times and made a few stupid river calls with things like AA on a board that had turned to shit.

I can see why LAG would be profitable. Was able to build up stacks without ever hitting any real hands. Sadly what kept happening is that I'd add another 50BB or so onto my stack being aggressive and then when it was clear people weren't giving much credit anymore, I'd hit the nutz and get sucked out on. Flopped a straight vs a reg who was obv sick of me and also wasn't giving me credit anymore and was able to get it in on the flop only to get sucked out on the river. It sucks when you do such a good job of image building and stack building and then lose it all to a suckout. hehe. Oh well.

But I definitely could be up 2-3 buyins instead of 1 buyin if I'd avoided some of those medium pot spews.

Wednesday and Thursday sucked balls. All losing sessions. Ended up playing some NL50 cause I've learned that one thing I always wish I'd done during my downswings is move down sooner. Hoping to get some recovery today but NL100 was really nitty. I think I chose bad times to play cause usually Friday's are so good.

Still doing ok though. Sitting @ 4.4k when I was up @ 4.7k before Wednesday, so I'm doing a good job of minimizing the losses during the downswing. Hopefully later tonight I can run good vs a few fish and have a heater session =)

Btw, this guy stole all my damn outs!

- Stop fucking around when on the flop when missed setmining just beacuse villain shows potential holes. If I'm setmining I'm doing it for value, not to make moves alskdjfao;sidhfals.

- Free look BB hands. STOP double barreling with air/marginal hands just b/c it's a limped pot and pple are weak. QJo and hitting MP or something is the worst shit ever JUST THROW IT OUT SLKDFJAL:KHFSDLKFJ.
