My Start by Mariuslol, May 12

Hehe

It's the middle of the night, I spent most of the night watching Starcraft vods, listening to Tastless rant on (like doing that).
Played 2 hours of poker in total today, watched 1 poker vod, rest of the day just been wasting time really.

I think I read somewhere that a lot of people get more creative, get ideas and think more diffrently in the middle of the night, something about the brain waves moves slower, but I have no idea what that means or if I actually read that somewhere or I'm making it up. Anyway, I thought, maybe perhaps I'll study harder, get better at poker, put in more hours if I have a blog, seems everyone have a blog lately, but I don't.

Well I just notice the blogs of the "famous" people, so at first I thought not much point of me making one, no one will read it, but then I thought, heh, that doesn't matter, if it makes me work harder, put in more hours, then that's a great thing!!

Hmm... I should look at blogs to check how they are suppose to look, maybe I'm doing this wrong.
Also wondering if I should put up a picture of me, not sure why, but people seem to do that too. (Crap, they also usually start with a life story, but I don't think I cba with that, not now anyway, maybe I won't keep updating the blog and I'll never write more than this first page anyway).

Anywho! I'm Marius, 28 from Norway, played games all my life, I was sick in sc first 3-4 years, then not so good after, was sick in Diablo first 2-3 years then stopped, and best dueller in WoW 3-4 years, that's bout it.

I'm shy of working, I avoid it, I get depressed thinking of it, makes me feel lazy embaressed and bad, but I really wanna make a living out of poker. I don't really care for the money, because everytime I fantasize bout having tons I just buy my dad a car, give some to my siblings and mom then go travelling.

Okay!!

So from now on, I have to watch atleast 1 poker vod a day, and atleast 1 session a day, and that's minimum, on average I'd like to have 1 vod a day and 6 hours of playing. But I don't know if that's stretching it a bit. I also want to make some good bankroll management system. I'm not 100% sure what, but I wanna be a bankroll nit, I hate playing scared, so something in the lines of:

- 10nl > 500euro
- 20nl > 2500euro
- 50nl > 5000euro
- 100nl > 7500euro

Ok, don't wanna get delusional thinking I'll get much higher than that fast lol.
Atm I'm at 2000euro, so when I get 2500 I'll go to 50nl, and I'll keep being there till I fall under 2500 again then move down to 20nl, and up when im over, and keep repeating.

Left 4 Dead - Question by Rush, May 12

I was wondering if I could buy Left 4 Dead from someone? I don't know if you can sell the key code for it or not but if so I'd buy it from someone. Just name your price.

What the fuck @ that sng losing streak? by Oddeye, May 12

I tried to refrain myself from putting any blog related to losing huge amount of money in short amount of time. This was mostly 500$ sngs and a some 350$, I got sucked out on average one out of two sngs, losing the others most of the time. Giving me a total of -8k. Kinna puzzled about what I should do next, it's retarded because I so often had an edge on the guy I was playing, but they kept sucking out.

Borgata 500k by JoeDeertay, May 12

The Borgata is hosting their $500k guaranteed deepstack tourney again next week, and I'm planning on just going and playing it. I'm going to head home on friday so I can be sure to get registered and still play my last 2 FTOPS events this weekend. Because of the FTOPS ME being sunday I'm gonna go for starting on day 1b at the Borgata on monday.

I'm going to play in the event regardless, but if I can manage to hedge the buy in by selling some action then I might as well try and see what I can get. The buyin is $1650, so 5% would be $82.50 , 10% is 165 , and etc. I guess I'd sell up to 70% if I can somehow get that much. If you're interested then PM me or something and we can work it out. I don't really expect many (if any) people to buy anything, but I figure why not ask anyway? =]

P.S. - Last time they had this event over 900 people played and they crushed the guarantee, and first got $393k or something around there.

Here is a link to the event:
Borgata 500k Guaranteed Deepstack

and here are my OPRs from since I actually started playing tourneys more often/seriously (from about the start of March I guess):

BOOM by SakiSaki, May 12

Fucking finally won a seat to the WSOP ME! I hate steps so much but theres so few MTT sats so what choice do I have? Probably spent about 4-5k in sats so feels great to ship the seat.

I was so tilted this sunday cause I busted 15th in a ftp sat where top 10 got a seat and then proceeded to bust from the sunday mill in 45th gah

Ive been very undecided about going to vegas after I sorta quit playing poker, and I felt that if I was to go it would be to play the main event cause I think that would be a really fun experience. So yeah, looks like im going Gonna have to start looking at the wsop schedule to decide which dates to go, I wanna play some smaller events prior to the ME to get a good feel for live donkaments and for the fun of it.

See you guys in vegas!

REBOOT! by jewlian, May 12

Oh wow, it has almost been one year since I posted on this blog and played poker online. If any of you have been following my previous posts, I had one year to do whatever I wanted. I ended up working for a non-profit charity as an outreach coordinator for one year (I got paid since I'm staff). Great learning experience and most of all, I matured from it.

Since my contract with the organization has expired, I thought about poker again for income and decided to take a crack at it in the summer. I'll be starting at the penny tables again to get reacquainted with the basics and as time goes on, move onto uncharted territory (25NL+).

What's funny is that I forgot the name of this site and was trying to remember it for the past few days. I ended up chatting with an old friend who introduced me to LP in the first place and told me the link. I'm back!

Media Fooled by wikipedia by k2o4, May 12

Full story

This is kinda funny and sad and scary at the same time. A kid put a fake quote onto wikipedia to see if the news media would use it, and they took the bait.

DUBLIN (AP) -- When Dublin university student Shane Fitzgerald posted a poetic but phony quote on Wikipedia, he was testing how our globalized, increasingly Internet-dependent media was upholding accuracy and accountability in an age of instant news.

His report card: Wikipedia passed. Journalism flunked.

The sociology major's obituary-friendly quote -- which he added to the Wikipedia page of Maurice Jarre hours after the French composer's death March 28 -- flew straight on to dozens of U.S. blogs and newspaper Web sites in Britain, Australia and India. They used the fabricated material, Fitzgerald said, even though administrators at the free online encyclopedia twice caught the quote's lack of attribution and removed it.

A full month went by and nobody noticed the editorial fraud. So Fitzgerald told several media outlets they'd swallowed his baloney whole.

"I was really shocked at the results from the experiment," Fitzgerald, 22, said Monday in an interview a week after one newspaper at fault, The Guardian of Britain, became the first to admit its obituarist lifted material straight from Wikipedia.

"I am 100 percent convinced that if I hadn't come forward, that quote would have gone down in history as something Maurice Jarre said, instead of something I made up," he said. "It would have become another example where, once anything is printed enough times in the media without challenge, it becomes fact."

So far, The Guardian is the only publication to make a public mea culpa, while others have eliminated or amended their online obituaries without any reference to the original version -- or in a few cases, still are citing Fitzgerald's florid prose weeks after he pointed out its true origin.

"One could say my life itself has been one long soundtrack," Fitzgerald's fake Jarre quote read. "Music was my life, music brought me to life, and music is how I will be remembered long after I leave this life. When I die there will be a final waltz playing in my head that only I can hear."

Fitzgerald said one of his University College Dublin classes was exploring how quickly information was transmitted around the globe. His private concern was that, under pressure to produce news instantly, media outlets were increasingly relying on Internet sources -- none more ubiquitous than the publicly edited Wikipedia.

When he saw British 24-hour news channels reporting the death of the triple Oscar-winning composer, Fitzgerald sensed what he called "a golden opportunity" for an experiment on media use of Wikipedia.

He said it took him less than 15 minutes to fabricate and place a quote calculated to appeal to obituary writers without distorting Jarre's actual life experiences. He noted that the Wikipedia listing on Jarre did not have any other strong quotes.

If anything, Fitzgerald said, he expected newspapers to avoid his quote because it had no link to a source -- and even might trigger alarms as "too good to be true." But many blogs and several newspapers used the quotes at the start or finish of their obituaries.

He said the Guardian was the only publication to respond to him in detail and with remorse at its own editorial failing. Others, he said, treated him as a vandal who was solely to blame for their cut-and-paste content.

"The moral of this story is not that journalists should avoid Wikipedia, but that they shouldn't use information they find there if it can't be traced back to a reliable primary source," said the readers' editor at the Guardian, Siobhain Butterworth, in the May 4 column that revealed Fitzgerald as the quote author.

"It's worrying that the misinformation only came to light because the perpetrator of the deception emailed publishers to let them know what he'd done, and it's regrettable that he took nearly a month to do so," she wrote.

Fitzgerald said he had waited in part to test whether news organizations or the public would smoke out the quote's lack of provenance. He said he was troubled that none did.

And he warned that a truly malicious hoaxer could have evaded Wikipedia's own informal policing by getting a newspaper to pick up a false piece of information -- as happened when his quote made its first of three appearances -- and then use those newspaper reports as a credible footnote for the bogus quote.

"I didn't want to be devious," he said. "I just wanted to show how the 24-hour, minute-by-minute media were now taking material straight from Wikipedia because of the deadline pressure they're under."

Even though there was no source for the quote and it was on wikipedia, newspapers, tv stations and more all around the world ran the quote as if it were a solid fact. And this wasn't some tabloid shit, but papers like The Guardian. I guess it's not such a surprise as the quality of journalism has gone way down hill recently. But it's sad to see.

Important issue with Skype by Liofle, May 12

Help, guys, pls. A friend of mine has d following thing: he has a PC and a laptop and on the laptop he has used Skype to write with friends about smoking weed and stuff. Now, his mother kinda heard about that (not important how) and she confiscated the laptop, which is turned off. After that, he is kinda fucked up cause he has to find a way to delete the things written on it. So he asks if logging in from the PC and changing the password helps? He did that while the laptop is still off so Skype there is turned off. The laptop has the auto-signing option ON and that sux. So, is there a way he can possibly make it impossible for his mother to see the weed stories and shit? Pleaaaaase, help, he is really desperate. The story is deep and can fuck him up big time .

BACK IN BUISSNESSSS by longple, May 12

yoyoyo

after my doomswitch about a month ago I put about 1/3 of my roll on this swedish site "svenska spel" to grind it up through the microstakes due to need of cash IRL. Building my roll for "bigger" games once again.

So i put up a goal to play 90k hands this month, so far its looking pretty good. im grinding like a crazy man, been playin like 7 hours/day pretty much this whole month. Def going really good.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/80c9168c6ed6d080a1086f6ad3b48974.jpg

running overall at ~ 25bb/100 at both nl100 and nl200 so im very happy with the results so far.

8sek = 1$

so 100NL is like $12NL and 200NL kinda like $25NL

alot softer playin these microstakes then playin on ipoker/pokerstars.

if ur swedish and microstakes player i def recommend you playing on svenskaspel to build ur roll for $100nl ++

My 90k hands in 30 days is looking really nice cuz ive almost played half of the hands in only 12 days. will take like 36hours break now and then finish this shiet goal up

also will start playing the NL500 (=$62NL) later this week as i reached a 12000SEK BR on svenskaspel now

I also want to mention that im making almost the same amount on $/hour in these $12 and $25NL games as i did ~2 months ago in $100NL on ipoker when i played there.

so my tip, swedish microplayers, try svenskaspel its so soft..

again ty theguru for tipping me about svenskaspel.

im so happy its all working out so easy building up the roll again

Switching Seats by k2o4, May 12

Switching seats on stars can be a very tilting experience, especially if you use tableninja. While I love tableninja I do have this one complaint... see, I have it set to sit down and buyin on any table that gets opened. This is a great feature and saves a shit load of time and prevents the distraction of having to deal with a buyin on a new table while playing a hand. But if you're already on a table and sitting OOP on a fish, and then the seat to the left of the fish opens up, you're in for a shitty time to get that seat.

Part of this suffering is due to stars. You can just click the seat and move there (unless there was an upgrade I don't know about). You have to leave the table, reopen the table via the lobby, and then choose the new seat. That's a pain in the ass as usually it takes forever to find the table in the lobby and then when you leave you often come back to find someone else already took the seat and you have to just sit back in the seat you had before... and sometimes your old seat is gone too, so now you're off the table. Balls.

If you try that procedure with tableninja on, you could be in for more suffering. Tableninja likes to take empty seats on the right side of the table first, so if you were sitting far right and the fish is far left, and you want top left, you gotta turn tableninja off. Otherwise you just reopen the table and it auto sits you in and buys in for you on the far right seat that you had before.

This extra step sucks balls. Cause now I'm not only dealing with the pain in the ass pokerstars way of moving seats, but I gotta deal with tableninja too.

I tilted really badly earlier tonight because of this... I was 250bb deep on a table with only 1 fish on it, the rest were regs. The 1 fish was directly to my left. He managed to double through me and at the same time knock out the guy to his left. So after getting raped I thought "I am gonna take all his monies" and then I see the empty seat! YES, POSITION ON THE FISH! I hunt the table down in the lobby, turn off table ninja, exit the table, reopen it, and take the seat, and turn back on table ninja. Seems like a success right? Nope, for some reason PS decided that despite me losing like half my stack the previous hand, they think I left the table with 250bb and force me to rebuy for that amount. At first I think this is some sort of mistake, so I try to leave the table and rebuy again for the amount I had when I left... I turn of tableninja, find the table in the lobby, exit the table, reopen it and NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, a reg has taken the seat to the left of the fish.

BALLS

Anyway, it takes a LONG time to play 1k hands while 3-4 tabling. I think I just played about 4 hours straight and got like 1.4k hands in. damn.
