HU Pressure by Spitfiree, May 31

I made about 10,000 hands of HU 20nl/50nl and eventually quit because of the high pressure im put under while playing.Today decided to play some HU again and in 81 hands i went on 5 buy in swing then instantly alt+F4ed the poker coz i would've tilted so hard.
The question i got is how do u HU players endure all that pressure ... I used to monkey tilt every time i d lose 2buy ins on 6max but now idc if i go on 10buy in downswing as long as i know im playing good. However HU variance is like 1000 times bigger and games r faster so i need tips of how to retain a calm mental state

May & WSOP update by Babs, May 31

I haven't indulged in one of these vain articles of what they call blogs in quite a while, so I'll give an update of the past few months.

After busting out of ANZPT 2nd hand in Adelaide, I entered a side tourny ($1k buy-in) and won that for $20k, so that was a nice little bonus.

Following that score I proceeded to have my biggest online downswing ever, almost $40k, or approximately 50 buy-ins (400nl - $1knl) over a period of about 2 weeks, since then I've been slowly grinding it back. It's been a good learning experience, it's just painful to lose so much when I can only grind on avg 1-2hrs a day because I work full time & study. I'm about $10k off from fully recovering, so wish me luck.

In addition I won a WSOP ME ticket by buying into a Step 5!!!!, I'll be in Vegas from 26 June, staying at the Palms & flying in with Wobbly.

5/30 WSOP event 4, day 1A recap by I_run_godlike, May 31

Nothing much to say about the tournament except for I was the chip leader at the table with 6375 in chips at the first break (started with 3k and 25/25), but proceed to lose 3 coin flips in a row after the break and everyone else but me was literally short stacking and forced me to flip with them.

Hand 1 (50/100)
UTG (a monkey) with about 4500 in chips opens to 250
UTG1, short stack shoved for 575
UTG2, another short stack over called for 450
Me (Mp1) looked down AKss, decided to reshove, then everyone including the pfr folded.

UTG1 had JJ, UTG2 had T6o...AKs...that's okay...i had pretty good equity in the pot...
obv didn't bink. oh well...at least it's not a significant big pot..

Hand 2 50/100
UTg folded to Mp3 (who was the major contributor to my big stack in lvl 2) opened to 250, he's been opening quite a few pots after the break.
folded to me in sb with JJ.
I looked at his stack and found him had only 2200 left, so I decided to try to get money in pre cuz JJ is obv ahead of his range.
I made it 750 and he shipped for the rest of his chips and flipped AKo...okay, another flip..

Flop came.. KQc4c...didn't improve...great, this really almost crippled me down to 3200 in chips..

Hand 3 (75/150)

guy who won the flip opened utg2 to 400, a new guy who just sat down 1 orbit ago..seems tight and had about 6500 in chips called, folded to me otb and looked down AQdd. I knew i couldn't fold this cuz there were too much in the pot already (400+400+75+150=1025), I only needed to win 1025/3200+1025= 24% of the time to make my shove profitable. So I shoved and pfr folded but the new guy tanked for a min and reluctantly called with TT...nice, another flip, one time plz?

Flop brought 459 and obv I couldn't bink when I needed to...out on the first event I played.

conclusion: I believe I played this tournament very well but just unfortunate to be on the wrong side of the variance. Looking forward to next week's event.

FTP Beginningz by Zalfor, May 31

Well, after depositing 600 on FTP i started playing on FTP nl25 to clear some of the bonus.

Now i'm up 10 BI in FTP and up 10 BI in PS, making + 20 BI on nl25 in the last 3-4 days and after around 20k hands. I'm playing pretty well recently, as my play style has definitely loosened up a bit. I just feel like i'm crushing these ppl's souls.. which is cool.

I am running above ev on FTP so it evened out of the horrible -ev from PS. Cleared 20/600 bonus and i'm going to stay on FTP until i finish my bonus. Yep. Here are some pictures.

Soon I will go back to nl50 and rape some more ppl's souls there, although i'll prob. tighten up a bit and play ~9 tables instead of 12.

Overall i'm -100 in ev total running at around 6BB/100 combined with ~7BB/100 in ev over 20k hands

May by Venrae, May 31

Ugh. May was hell. I played like asshole and ran about the same. Most of it was definitely my fault. Need to work on not being a station or getting it in when I know I'm behind.

Day 4 - I am +EV by edzwoo, May 31

I ran pretty well today. My first session was nearly +5bi, and I felt that I played well. Definitely can't say the same for my second session, though. I ended that session down about 2bi, making about 3 bad calldowns.

The important thing though is that I actually had a winning session, though. And a pretty nice one at that!

I'm also trying to make good of my ridiculous image at these tables.

When you can't win by RICHI8, May 30

What do you do when you know you can't win? No matter what you do. That is what today has been like and the previous three days. Every time I rebuild. It beats me right back down. I have over 80k hands now between FL and NL and I'm a loser by a couple hundred dollars.

I just don't get it. Anyone else in this world who runs like me would have quit long ago but I don't. Is this a mistake? Do I run bad or am I just bad?

EDIT: I just officially quit poker and cashed out the remainder of my roll which was $783. My roll was $1600 5 days ago. Here's a life time graph of my hands from HEM:

May Results (8.5k) by PanoRaMa, May 30

v-v-v-variance fest

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a162/sirasoni/may09final.png

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a162/sirasoni/may09stats.png

I ran good at 2/4 but got absolutely destroyed elsewhere, resulting in a mediocre 2ptbb winrate for the month of May. Not bad though, a week ago I was questioning as to whether or not I'd even profit on the month (that and where the FUCK my red line was going)..

+6k Cash Game
+~500 Donkaments
+2k Rakeback
= 8.5k on the month.

Taking the last couple days off, except for the Turbo Takedown (gonna win me a Cayman). I found out I have some cavities too, they don't hurt but I can see them, ugh. Haven't been to the dentist in like 6 years, no one ever told me I was supposed to keep going back for checkups, wtf mate?

So we're a month away from the half point mark of the year. The extent of 2009 has been what I'd considered myself an actual full time professional (although god knows I don't put in the hours of a true full time pro), after deciding to take an extended break from school. I have to say I'm satsified with how it's been going so far. I wanted to make 150k this year and I'm behind pace on that, but I'm up around 55-60k on the year already which is the amount I made in 2008. I feel like I can still hit 150k seeing as how at the beginning of the year I was playing mostly 1/2, and now I'm playing anything between 2/4, 3/6, and 5/10. I played 10/20 this month which was awesome as I was able to luckbox a stack, lolol. Additionally, I feel like my overall growth as a player just keeps making HUGE leaps and bounds each month I play and devote myself to the game. I think it's one thing to be able to play this game well, but it's another to be able to inherently understand the game and its psychological factors well. Mastery of both is probably the recipe to high stakes success.

Some interesting hands:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/693802 - 4bet pot deep, two streets call down with bottom pair
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/696062 - Just a cute Q-hi hero call, not a big pot or anything though
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/697094 - 10/20 hand, always nice to 3bet bluff oop and flop the nizzles and cooler a reg

My June goals will pretty much be the same as my May goals. At least 40k hands and at least 5 digit income. I'd like to take this time to give a shout out to Bttech86/Ben86/Ben Tollerene whom I mentioned I was backing for his extensive WSOP schedule, as he's beginning that schedule now (today is Day 1 of WSOP series). I have 7.5% of him, so I hope he binks!

GL guys.
