Greetings! by zerglife, July 11

Hello fellow aquatic vertebrates,

I come from the depths of space otherwise known as Starcraft. I used to play Starcraft for fun with friends and for the past 5-6 years I have been playing it somewhat competitively on and off. I am attempting to make a transition into the fields of poker and plan on making full use out of this great resource known as liquidpoker (and hopefully some of its inhabitants.) The beginner articles have thus far served as a great aid, and as I continue my journey through the tough roads of the micro limits I will be creating more blog entries asking for advice on hands that I will inevitably make sub-par decisions on. I am currently using the program known as Hold 'em Manager to keep track of my progress however I am too inept to make full use out of it yet as I have not even scratched the surface of this great game. I plan on doing my best to make pot odds, hand odds, and concepts such as position in no limit hold em second nature. I am currently staked at .01/.02 and am slowly making my climb up the treacherous path. I hope that some of you more experienced players will offer a helping hand in my future blog posts! Until we meet again I bid all of you well.

HEM vs PT? by Ludrik, July 11

Hey everyone. I've been a long time lurker over at teamliquid now I figure I'll lurk around here for a while.

I've 2-tabling ftp for a couple of weeks now. I'm up about 15 bi so far. I used to play every now and then with mates and made quite a bit off them but they weren't exactly good. You could usually just be a bit agro and scare them out of all the pots they shouldn't have been playing.

So anyway i've decided to have a look at getting either HEM or PT. Just wondering which one people prefer. I'm downloading the HEM trial atm and will use that till the trial runs out. Then I'll switch over to PT for its trial.

Happy grinding
- Ludrik

FUCKING RETARDS by longple, July 10

had a 14 table session today and had been playing for 3 hours and it was going really well.

Then i hear my friends cominging home from a night of drinking.

I got 3 big pots going and have a big draw on 1 table and basically the nuts on the other tables, (top set vs aggro spewfish with pot already of 100bb with like 60bb each behind on turn) and another hand where i had flopped nutstraight after making a 3bet bluff with 97o vs a nit tag, who flatted my 3b.

2 of my friends comes into my room and start jumping on me and pulling me down on the floor..

im screaming like a crazy nazi and keep hitting them with my fist screaming at them to let go of me cuz im in big pots atm..

im breaking loose and hits one of the guys as hard as i can on his chest and runs back to the computer.

results, ive timed out on all tables and autofolded all of the 3 hands..

god fucking retards. just wanna kill them all fucking drunk bitches.

prolly lost atleast 3 buy ins of ev in those hands..

Vegas Wrapup - Back Home by k2o4, July 10

What an awesome trip. Ever since I saw Rounders when I was 14 yrs old I've always wondered what it would be like to go to Vegas and play poker. It wasn't till I was 22 that I finally learned how to play, and by "play" I mean being good at the game and knowing more than just the rules. The last 3 years have been a big long buildup to the trip that I just finished and I'm happy to say that every goal I had was achieved.

1) Meet lots of LP guys - Done
2) Play and beat 1/3 live - Done
3) Stay within a tight budget and at least cover expenses with winnings - Pwnd
4) Make new friends - Done and done

That reminds me, there are a lot of people I need to thank for their generosity. First off I have to give a big thanks to Pinball, Sakisaki, timdawg, bigbobm, and Milkman for letting me bum around their house so much. I think I spent most of my time at a casino or at their house, and it was a lot of fun. Secondly big thanks to Frinkx, Peachy, Myth, Pooruser, and Night201 for inviting me to their 4th of July party. That was a great time with good food, good booze, and fun people. It's the first 4th of July that I've enjoyed in ages cause I've been running bad on the 4th for yrs now.

And before I forget, let me repost the pictures from an earlier blog post for those of you who missed em:

Pics are in the spoiler - I was too lazy to resize so I'm sorry but they're worth checking out:

Ok, back to what I was saying... the pwning of the goals. I've played some live cash before Vegas and always sucked at it. I made a lot of live fish mistakes, like always being confused on the action or the pot size. I never felt comfortable while playing live and was so distracted by small stuff that I never played my best. So heading to Vegas had me very nervous, cause I was gonna play live for $300 buyins instead of the $5 games that I got my friends to play with me. Those live fish mistakes could become pretty costly and being a nit, that made me pretty damn nervous.

My first 2 live sessions in Vegas I played pretty tight and just got used to things. It didn't help that during my first session some wanna-be white boy rasta decided to take out his anger at Milkmans nonstop talking by going after me. I find Milkman to be very fun to play live with cause he just talks and talks, and since live can be very boring at times it's good to have some sort of conversation going on. So the table is overall fun and friendly until I 3bet the rastaboy, who tells me that he will call when I'm counting my chips and then folds as soon as I bet and starts cursing me. I laugh cause I never saw someone get so made cause they had to fold to a 3bet preflop but he's oddly steaming. The very next hand I open AJ and he calls in the blinds along with 2 others. Flop comes something like AT7 2 suited and I cbet, rastaboy check raises and it folds to me. Considering that he's steaming, could have a worse ace or a draw, and I have AJ, I call. Then the turn hits another 7 and he bombs it and I tank.

This is when the weirdness ensues as he begins talking lots of shit. Before the hand started (after the 3bet) he had been calling me a trout, which I guess is his way of saying a fish, but I guess to him that's a really bad fish cause he kept saying trout tasted bad so he didn't want to eat me... I said it was good cause I didn't want him to eat me either. Well he kept calling me a trout and other weird shit and I kept asking him what hand he had while mocking his idiotic insults. This seemed to tilt him more and he started flexing his biceps (he was wearing a TANK TOP, lolz, and a rasta hat) and giving me some crazy wide eyed stare. At this point I was 99% that he'd turned a boat with A7 but I just kept talking shit back to him for a while till the dealer told the guy to calm down... I was drunk but I feel like he was talking about going outside to fight or something. I finally fold and he snap mucks which confirms to me that he wasn't bluffing, cause he'd have shown that and gloated all night long.

Since that was my first live session I wasn't sure if it was a normal occurrence for weird cuntbags to flex their muscles at you and call you a trout, but I hoped it wasn't cause that just doesn't fit under my definition of a fun time. Luckily it was a freak occurrence as the rest of my sessions were really smooth and fun. I got really good at finding the fish and befriending them and encouraging their fishiness, which usually turned into profit for me in the long run as they'd gladly spew money to me when we got into a hand together.

1/3 live cash games in Vegas are like playing .1/.2c on stars. It's fucking easy. But it's actually EASIER because you can make huge folds and huge bluffs that you'd normally never make because these horrible fish will pretty much tell you when they hold the nuts or when they want to fold. So while online sometimes you just gotta go with a hand, live there are lots of times you can lay that same hand down. It's pretty sweet and I wish I could play vs live fish all the time.

Like I predicted I am not a huge fan of Vegas overall... I just love the cash games and had a great time hanging out with other LP guys. If I was rich, single and felt like blowing money then I can see Vegas being fun. But none of those things are true so there's very little that appeals to me. I wish I could have a teleporter so I could live here in CO but instantly go to the cash games whenever I wanted. If I could grind that live cash but change nothing else about my life, then I'd be in heaven.

I'm glad I went during the WSOP though, cause not only did I finally get to meet a lot of cool people that I've always looked up to or been curious about (I got to shake Elky's hand, spend time with Myth as he acted British, have a fun conversation with Peachy about finding ways to give back, and reminisce with frinkx about our epic coaching session, and more), BUT I also made a handful of new friends that I am gonna miss a lot. Pinball, timdawg, bigbobm, and Milkman were people I barely knew before this but I now consider them as friends (hope they think so too, haha). They were all really cool, generous, funny guys and definitely people I'd want to hang with again in the future. Plus I got to hang with my coach, sakisaki, for the first time IRL. That was a lot of fun cause we've spent hours and hours talking online and became good friends, so it was fun to actually hang out in person. I hope you guys have a good last week in Vegas and hopefully I will get myself to some more events so we can chill again (gogo PCA!). Worst case scenario will be that I see you again in Vegas for the next WSOP. You're all invited out here to CO anytime so just lemme know if you need a place to crash!

I think that's a long enough rambling rant for now. I'll close by saying that I'm gonna go back to coaching (sorry to my students who I didn't get in touch with this week, I literally got online twice cause I didn't have net where I was staying) and grinding for now and I might head back to Vegas again when the summers over and it's not so damn hot out there. Oh, and I almost forgot to say that MiPwnYa is a crazy guy - in a very good way. haha

Blog prop bet. by Adaptation, July 10

Well now i gotta update this blog a lot, because theres a prop bet thats about to start on how long we can update ze_blogs. Everyday, with a 1 day break per weak(a week starting Monday and finishing Sunday). So now i have to update this, and i gotta find stuff to blog about. Well, i switched to PLO and im doing good, went from .1/.2 - .2/5 5/10 10/25(at around 10BB/100). Quick thoughts on the game so far -

Obviously, board texture is extremely important, thus making Omaha tracker actually not as useful(but still pretty useful) considering theres is absolutely no balancing to do on the turn or river at lower and mid stakes.

Handreading is very relative to after flop tendency's when facing 30VPIP + players(which there is a crapload). Taking notes is really really important, cause you need to know who raises draws and such.

Slowplaying is generally no good - your nuts gets killed way too often and even untouchable nuts will get no action due to scary turn and river card.

I found overlimping to be good - run equity calculations and you will see that if theres 2 limpers, you are probably better off limping your As9s8hTh. Your fold equity is none. However open limping is fairly negative ev. I only overlimp if theres 2 or more limpers.

Don't 3 bet out of the blinds, unless you do have fold equity(which is pretty rare), or you have a weak tight postflop player. 4betting is another cookie, especially dependant on stack sizes. If you can jam more then 40% stack, then yea you should 4bet your aces. 3bet in position is actually very profitable(although higher variance in a game where at lower stakes you can just nut peddle). Most players will put you on aces, and you should certainly 3bet your QJT9ss against an opponent who opens a wide range. Of course if the guy never raises, dont raise because he will 4 bet you with his AA or KK. But again, the Preflop raisers 10%+, you should 3 bet in position your rundown hands(but don't 3 bet 4567hhss - you will often get it in with a draw where your opponent is freerolling you to a better nuts). Im talking QJT9hhss.

Anyway, tomorrow i will post my thoughts on general hand reading, because iv found to be pretty efficient at hand reading so far.

Oh btw 9/07/09 was my birthday and i got in a car accident(although small). Shitty ass bday. Oh well will probably go out saturday night to compensate!

First HU ever by LemOn[5thF], July 10

Yeah, I never played HU, but as I recently found out its the tables with 1-2 players that are the most profitable as nitty regs only join 5+ ppl tables.I watched a HU series at Pokerstrategy and armed with my new knowledge I went on cruising NL50 HU tables.

And although I am a total HU fish and have never played it before REGS WILL NOT PLAY ME 7times they just sat out, 3 times after just few hands where I played well, wtf is with this bum hunting at stars? One reg was even berating someone to rebuy before and he sits out after 10 hands wtf.
Well, I either want to play the best out there who are not bumhunting to learn (Primary HU objective for SH table benefit), or just play fish to get some slack ;o

Anyway, I sat with one $49 stack bronze star fish and it was much harder than I expected.
He seemed to be on par with me, playing 65/50/1/40WTSD Without 3bets playing kinda passive with only mild bluffs.

An easy prey for anyone of you HU players, but I had some troubles beating him.

I played about 57/50 with 20% 3bet, 3.70 AF and 67 AFq 40WTSD

Are these somewhat normal stats, or should I make it more open, calling down some more pre?

I must admit that I was really lucky in this match and after some of my (very logical imo)3Barrels didn't work I had to wait for a huge heater to finish him

HU is just fun for me and I will play a game here and there. Its not for me full time really because of the variance and my Tilt issues, but it is a great fun, great for hand reading and awesome for killing out boredom.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NL50 So far:

Run Good+ EZ mode when I mostly 3-6 table depending on how non-standard villains are sitting with me.
I still make some massive retarded spews here and there though, I have to fix that before I can even think of planning to move up, no matter what my BR will be.

I also am love with Supernova and even with my tiny tiny tiny volumes compared to past (I averaged about 107k hands/month last 3 months) the FPP are building up nicely

P.S. If someone still wants some free money by playing me at NL50 HU,in exchange for reviewing the session afterwards on teamspeak/teamviewer feel free to PM me.

A incoming LPer... :D by Cro)Deadman, July 10

I promised to myself a few months a go when I came back to playing that I won't talk about my poker results as I believe it can only bring bad luck and unwanted attention, so I won't!

But being a Lagtard that I am I have emo swings when I have bad sessions and I've spoken to a very good friend of mine whos identity I'll keep secret for now... Basically hes the one who got me into poker and we started grinding seriously, unfortunately I took too many breaks from poker and lived (and still living) a lifestyle which is not really sustainable if ur not making at least 4-5k a month and needless to say as I wasn't grinding for 5 months it caught up to me and I had issues with my BR not being acceptable for NL100 (had only 38 bi's at one point)

So now beside the fact that I've been grinding like a madman (and doing good) the mentioned person in the upper block of text is coming tommorow to my country to help me with my game and make me a better player in general. He now plays up to 25/50 so I believe I'll have a lot of stuff to learn from him and althou everyone who worked closely with me knows im a really good card reader and have good theoretical knowledge of the game , I think you can never stop learning , especially not at poker where people are getting better by the day thanks to the bunch of the instructional pokersites out there.

Pics will be taken when he comes and shown , those of you who know him will giggle and those who dont... won't?

The sad fact about this person is the fact he doesn't drink or smoke weed althou hes from holland which is fucking meh but I think we'll find a mutual language in something beside poker.

Really looking forward to his arrival tommorow...

Peace out LP.

Can't connect to Pokerstars? by fira, July 10

For some reason I haven't been able to connect to pokerstars for the last few days. It seems to be location as well as computer independent, because I tried it in Irvine, then in San Diego, and I've also tried it on a different computer in Irvine. It's like Pokerstars is down in California or something.

Basically at the lobby it's stuck at "Connecting" with the scrolling blue progress bar. I click Network Status and all the hosts are Bad (0%).

Anyone else having this issue?

edit: have tried reinstalling the software, to no avail
update: has nothing to do with my location, just tried it on another comp here and works. /confused

Los Angeles check-in by remember87, July 09

First of all, Amsterdam is a really nice city! All the buildings are really picturesque, the river that runs through the city is nice and all I can say I loved it really much! It was also really strange to walk along on the streets, and in like every corner there is a Coffehouse. It seems to work there but Im pretty shure it wouldnt work at all in Sweden. It was interesting to see the difference!

My travel company concist of a couple of old buddies I have known like for 15 years. They are relly cool and they are a lot of fun. They had already bought the tickets etc but when I heard of the trip and I felt like I described in previous blogentries I decided to get a ticket too. I managed to get on the same flights and change seat so we are sitting together.

After 24h in Amsterdam the flight to LA departured. Everything went really smooth in customs on the american side.. They asked like a thousand questions what Im going to do here, took fingerprints etc. Since we didnt have a hotel we just made an adress up for the trip too But everything went perfect and here we are now in a hotelroom in Los Angeles soon going to sleep. Havnt felt the jetlag at all, guess pokerplayers cant get it since our diurnal rhythm always is pretty fucked up anyway!

So What am I doing in LA? To be honoust I dont know! This is just a nice and very spontanious vacation! Guess Im going to visit sunset beach, sankta monica, universal studios, Las Vegas of course!, Grand Canion, maybe a trip down to Mexico etc.. We are staying here just for 2 weeks so its a quite limited time.
Do you guys have any suggestions what to do? What cant I miss while Im here?

Will be updating here a bit, and if anyone wants to meet up somewhere, either in LA or in Vegas just send me a PM.
