| | Bad Beats by Gobular, July 09
Its that story the we are all familiar with, when an online site is going to beat you it doesn’t ever seem to make it a simple beat. I mean queens losing to AK on the flop I can take, but when the flop is king, ace, king (oh yes that’s happened to me) it’s the stuff that doesn’t just crush your spine, it grinds it into a fine powder than snorts it.
Not to say that soul destroying beats never happen in live events. Recently at Crown Casino in my hometown of Melbourne, a mate and I were playing a tournament and his lofty position of chip leader was completely obliterated. Midway through the tournament I’d been moved to his table where I witnessed this horrible hand.
He was in the blinds or at least in very late position, as the action comes round to him the short stack pushes all in, that is then called by another player and action comes to my mate who pushes all in and the caller promptly calls.
As the cards are flipped the short stack shows 5c 5h, the other caller has Kc Kd and my mate Ac As. Boom, his face lights up, the other two players look shattered and the rest of the table voices approval at my mates cards. He is poised to take home the large main pot and the juicy side pot. The flop comes and while the value of the cards are unimportant the suit is, two hearts. Suddenly the pocket fives man is stirring to life, his faint hope at survival has given him voice. The turn comes, king of hearts, now the kings man is out of his seat, with the best hand he at the very least is going get that juicy side pot and survive this encounter. Though the pocket fives man is also pumped, surely the five of hearts isn’t going to drag his ass away from aces unscathed.
Unfortunately for my mate you could see it happening before the dealer flipped over the final card, the scream of delight from the pocket fives man was enough to tell you that my mate had just been thoroughly and brutal destroyed. With pocket fives man claiming the main pot and the side pot going to trip kings man, my mate looked despondent and stared down at the green felt which his once mighty chip stack had once occupied. Several hands latter in a cruel and bitter twist of fate he pushed with A8, only to run up against, you guessed it pocket aces. This time they held up and my mate was bungled out in dramatic fashion.
The moral of this story, well poker is a game of f*%$#*^ frustrations, though that being said the pocket fives man would be boring friends and family with his retelling of that hand.

| | Main Event 2B by BJLTNYK, July 09
Started the day with 50,525...opening table was nitty as hell and really awful to accumulate on overall. Shortly after the first break I get AKo in v KK for ~45k apiece (ups)...guy starts storming the table and yelling "I GOT HIM...I KNEW I'D GET HIM...I GOT HIM"...J77JA...chuss. I uncharacteristically yelled out loud and told him that's why you don't start celebrating before the hand is over. He stormed off with his gf/wife that he had no business being with (there's sooo much of that in Vegas). I apologized to the table for my yell...that dude just pissed me off trying to rub it in...it's not like we had some history or anything either he just spazz started taunting...whatever.
Table breaks and I get moved to Tim Phan's direct left. Not much happens for a while til it folds to Phan on the SB...he makes it 1800 at 300-600...I make it 5k with A10dd which he thinks and flats. Comes A76ss and I check behind. Turn 4s...Phan check calls 6600. River is the beautiful offsuit 10. Phan counts out his stack and check calls 17k with ~20k behind. Good pot...not sure what he had.
Table breaks again...get moved OOP to a pretty solid young guy who I'm pretty sure plays HSNL online. He calls one of my double barrels with Q high down with 2nd pair...fun to be owned. Just after dinner I flat a ~27k stack CO open to 1800 with KJs in the SB. Flop comes KK4hh and he bet 3bets AI on the flop with Q3hh and I hold. BB said he folded K6...asdf. This table also breaks pretty quickly.
Last table of the night finds me with Joe Reitman...former husband of Shannon Elizabeth and current BF of Annie Duke. Also on my direct left was a way short Tom Koral...high stakes online mixed games specialist...2 FTs at this year's series. He was so short he had like no playback ability. I proceeded to run my 170kish to 226,700 to end the day mainly just opening 3-4 an orbit and getting played back at by noone.
ez game so far. GL to everyone else still in.

| | Day 2 Main event by BigRed0000, July 09
ended the day with 166,800. Very happy with this, esp. b/c i came into the day with 55k. My starting table was good, not great. 1 ok player (CKingUSC) but he played pretty tight and didn't really get in my way. I won small pots and chipped up to 75k then our table broke and............. I FINALLY got moved to a true WSOP ME table. No one was good, the only other young guy besides me was a terribad nit. It was amazing. Towards the end of the day it got a litttttttle worse when i busted the 9 seat (I was in 7) and he got replaced by some tournament reg i've never heard of named Brikdog24? He got 2nd in the 5k 6m apparently and played ok but a lot tighter than I thought he would at first. His bet sizing was kind of bad too.... so he was probably a live pro who plays online every now and then (most of them have bad bet sizing). Anyway I lost a couple big pots to him when he first got moved making 1 bad hero call and the 2nd one wasn't a 'hero' call but.... yeah. I figured out he was actually just a nit who looks like an aggro internet kid and adjusted/owned him accordingly. Plzzzzzzzzzzzzz run good tomrrow, i felt kinda bad right at dinner so i'm just gonna drink water and lay down all day. GL to everyone from LP still in, off the top o fmy head....
Chris, MiPwnya, Blair Hinkle, Mythhhhhhhhhhhh, art, steve?
EDIT: huge shout out / props to the man the myth the legend Corwin Cole for owning shaun deeb.

| | how much of a roll do you need for playing live? by luddite, July 09
So i've been playing online for about a year now, playing low stakes and doing ok, but I've never gone to a casino. I'd like to give it a shot, just for fun. I don't even know what kind of games the casinos near me have, but i know they probably don't have much. So the only limits their are probably much larger than any i've played online. How many buyins do you think I'd need in my bankroll, to have a decent shot playing at a casino?

| | Main event day 2 recap by thewh00sel, July 09
I thoguht I played really well on day 2. I had a super soft table again. I managed to get my stack up to 250k at my hugh point, but I finished the day at 203k. Day 3 starts up at 600 1200 and ends at 1500 3000 so ill set my goal for the end of day 3 at 500k as the average will probsbly be around 200k. There are still 2000 players left going into day 3 but I'm still pretty happy as before this I've been cursed and hadn't made a single day 2 in the wsop. So lets goooooooooooo day 3!

| | BAN! by LemOn[5thF], July 09
That's right I ban myself from NL25 and lower.
I am just taking a piss, not taking the game seriously and disrespecting the money I got at my tables, so I always end up playing like a lagtard or mass tabling.
All because I was scared or sth of destroying my NL50 progress some bloody week ago

Move down: 1000
Also, I found it extremely profitable to start tables HU, if anyone can point me to a good HU resource, or wants easy money by playing me HU NL50 (But reviewing the session afterwards on teasmpeak/teamviewer), let me know
P.S. This is how I roll when 3 tabling

| | [H] quick 3 bet question by eekmice, July 09
i forgot to save the hand history so bear with me.
I have QJs in CO and this guy who has been 3 betting a LOT raises to 6 on the button. Of the few hands that went to showdown, I noticed that he 3bet 4.5 more in big hands and 4 more in mediocre hands. He bet 4 more this hand. So I didn't want to play such a mediocre hand OOP by flat calling, I decided to make it 13. He then reraised 10 more. Now I'm even more confident he doesn't have QQ/KK/AA because he would've most likely went all in. After thinking about it, I thought I had 0 fold equity and just folded. What is the optimal play here?

| | tips to win on python~ by jasper5408, July 08
been playing on europe for a while (b.net)
i play as zerg and my games against toss and terran are pretty sub par. i feel like the map is so huge that expanding is so key and mandatory but i never seem to get my timing right. any tips on when u feel the timing is right to expand? specifically against toss
i like to get some what fast zergling to force toss to build extra cannons. i also feel that i can get a few probes if he doesn't build enough cannons, or if he mis places cannons at his expo i can snag a few probes/do some decent harass.
i feel on python teching to muta is mandatory for good harass. and then i switch to lurker tech + hydras. this is usually when i choose to expand. but i may need to do it earlier?

| | Live donkaments by DustySwedeDude, July 08
So since I luckboxed my way into a freeroll for Unibet Open London I feel that I should probably try to figure out how not to suck in live MTT's. Obviously I feel that I've got a decent understanding of poker in general, but I just don't feel that some of the things I do in online cash will work out live.
1. Herocalling everything that looks weird untill I've figured someone out seems to expensive when you start with like 200bb and can't rebuy.
2. Going broke and shipping super light in spots were I believe that I might have an edge even if the variance is huge.
3. cold 4betbluffing (although this one might work decently I guess, but probably isn't worth it)
4. etc etc
Anyone knows anything good to read/watch to get better at this? Already read Myth's live NL-stuff and I'm watching CR-vids right now. Any ideas are welcome!
