well I wrote in my previous post that Ivey was bust at the rio. Obviously thats not true since he is one of the november nine. He took a small brake when I was there, he was low in chips so he wasnt on the chipcounts and guys on the rail said he was bust. I was pretty fooled. Happy that I was though. I hope he can win that bracelet! He is probably the best player in the world and to win the ME would just get that into the history books!
At the tables tonight was a lot of talk about Mr. Ivey. He went in at Bobbys room after the game finished at Rio and talked to Antonius, Illari o Co. As usual he didnt show any emotions at all
After he had shown up, there was a lot of talk about the prob bets he has. According to several people here he bet 10 to 1 after day 1 that he could reach the final table at the ME. At that time he also bet $20k at 100 to 1 that he would win the ME Thats a guy with too much confidence or too much money.
If the bet with Howard Lederer (5M$) is not just a rumour I guess he could win like 10M$ in just prop bets if he wins the ME!
Playwise the Bellagio doesnt like me. I am playing 2/5 and the games are really soft but my hands can never win..
Once again it started out well, I called down a guy 3 streets ip with TT on Q85ss82 and he muched before I even got a chance to show my hand. That was the only big hand I won all night.
I lost 2 flips AI pre, top 2 against a FD on turn etc but it was like the cards didnt want to go my way. It was also a bit hard to bluff since everyone saw me as this young aggressive swedish internet kid and called me down with like 3 pair no matter the board. Guess I have blame myself. I kinda made a joke or two about having pair-outs when I bluffed in a pot and the table didnt believe me one second after that. I wanted to really get value from that but when I even didnt hit a pair for 1,5h I quit and am going to bed now.
I guess I will loose a couple of BI tomorrow too but then its enough at NL500. I really dont have the bankroll to loose too much at this level even if I think these are the softest games I have played in.. they are even softer then Stockholms 20/20 games..

Flight here was scary. I don't like flying. I'm scared of it. It was ok though, compared to the taxi we took from Paddington Central to the Hotel. The driver was batshit insane, if I hadn't struggled so not to shit myself it'd been the funniest thing ever. The hotel is a little bit to nice for my taste, but whatever. Vegas is so impressive! Just as I imagined! Staying at Bellagio with a view of the fountain and I just love it!
I started out the day with a walk to the Rio and checked out the WSOP just as Ivey busted out. I also got a photo with Dennis Phillips! Then we checked out Ceasars palace before I sat down to play some at Bellagios poker room.
Games were also running at Bobbys room, I think Doyle Brunson played at it and also Patrick Antonius.
The games are really soft and easy at Bellagio. It started of great when I took a fish´s money w Q8 v 85 on J8x8K. I then took down some easy pots w bluffs etc cause nobody could handread. Then I raised in MP w J6hh, fish calls in SB and the flops comes KQ9 all hearts. He C/C my CB, then C/minR a blank turn and we get it in like 200bb deep, he has AAh and ofc spikes a heart on the river.
I rebuy and then another fish sits down at my left, he really liked to show he had money. 10 min in I raise, new fish calls and SB calls. flop comes T63r, checked to me, I bet and new fish calls before I can get my chips in the middle Turn another 6 now with 2 hearts. He insta C/C again. River comes 8h and insta goes AI. I kinda know I am beat but reluctantly calls. He shows 97o..
Since I am hungry I leave the table with a loss of 1100$.. hmm.. new try tonight.
My First Blog - Starting Pokerby zaragyemo, July 15
Ok, this is my first blog on LiquidPoker. I thought that it is appropriate that I create one as I start my poker journey. I know minimal about Poker, whatever I know about poker is from living with a poker player boyfriend (k2o4) and his nonstop rambling (and I don’t remember half of what he says because I wasn’t really listening but obviously pretending to listen). There are days when I show interest and really listen (i.e when I am in a good mood) and managed to find it rather interesting. Well, interesting enough to inspire me to learn to play.
For the longest time, I have been adverse to any sort of gambling, poker included. And I still stick by the belief that if you don’t know what you are doing – it is still gambling. I was introduced to Poker in September/October of 2006 when k2o4 moved to India to be with me. I was very skeptical at the beginning; he spent some time convincing me why poker is not gambling but rather a strategic game if known how to play. I grew up in a pretty conservative Tibetan culture where gambling is looked down upon. The only time you gamble is on Losar (Tibetan New Year). I don’t know if there is any other Tibetan online poker player here and I am probably the first Tibetan girl to blog here.
Anyways, cutting the blog short, in the last 3 years we have been together, he has managed to convince me otherwise. And it’s not because he brought home big bucks (it doesn’t harm to have extra cash to spend) but because of the better person playing Poker has made him.
If you think relationships are hard and girls vicious – try poker. It’s merciless as you all know. Poker as a game is less forgiving than any girlfriend you will ever have. You can’t even cheat emotionally in poker, if you do – you are fucked (in a bad way).
Poker in a way has been a therapy for k2o4, because a lot of the time the way you play poker and deal with its outcome is very parallel to how you deal with everything in real life. You have a bad day at poker and you tilt, become stupid, play worse and lose more money, the same case in real life - you have a bad day, you drink, fight with your girl friend and eventually break up in worse cases.
And if you learned to deal with coolers, suck outs and bad beats and have an emotional control over the situation – you are able to do the same in real life and I have first hand experience with k2o4. He is much more of a balanced guy because of poker.
Cutting the crap, basically I am going to learn how to play poker because of below reasons.
- Over the years, it has come to look fun to play.
- I am curious to see if I am good at it.
- Something that both k2o4 and I can share and talk about and this time, we will hopefully listen and hear each other out.
- Extra pocket money doesn’t hurt but I think there is a long way to go.

I took a shot in NL25 and ended up down $10 or so after 6 tabling for about 3 hours. I lost about $130 in all-in EV though or so lol. All in all, I think I can beat this limit, so I will try again for the next week or so and see how it goes.

Sitting at the airport in philly right now waiting for my flight back home to stockholm. I dont have alot of batteries so ill keep it breif. Vegas was a fail in terms of poker. I also degened it up alot more than I was planning to playing alot of blackjack roulette and baccarat. Fortunately I won enough in omahaflips against pinball to cover my -ev game losses. Overall I had a great time in vegas, it was great meeting everyone(to lazy to list everyone, you guys know who you are yo) and partying and eating great food etc.
Just found out that I got into medschool so I have like another month of freedom left before hell is unleached upon me. I have mixed feeling about this. I really really wanted to get in so I am very happy, but at the same time living with poker players was sick fun and I was aiming at setting up a pokerhouse somewhere nice if I didnt get in to school. owell, its all good. Its going to be great to get back home to sweden and just chill for a while, no drinking no vicious spending and no desert.
with the final 27 in place i've actually played with like half the remaining field at some point while i was in the tournament.
there were two people i played with who are short but i think are sleeper picks to take it down if they can double through.
i played a bunch with jesse habaak during the bubble. he was a really nice guy from north dakota and schooled me pretty good in one hand. he seemed pretty loose for a tournament guy and i'll be rooting for him coming in.
the other player i think could make a run if she gets a big stack is leo margets. i don't want to give too much away, but i'm pretty sure she's possibly the most competent female player i have ever played with/observed. i was absolutely floored by some of the plays she made and hands she showed down. it is her first wsop and shes on a sick run, it would be so sick for poker if she takes it down so im really rooting for her. she's from spain as well, which is definitely one of the smaller poker markets at present but has some pretty extreme potential, so i think we'd all do better to see her do well.
she has some crap blog where she is talking about her M and how she is exploiting her image. she started online as well, and if i had to guess, i'd say even if she is the first one out today it won't be the last we hear from her. i just can't get over how skilled she seemed to be, and how good she was at exploiting the fact everyone would think she was bad.
anyways, other than those two, i'm of course rooting for ivey because i think he's the best player on earth and i like to see someone i look up to do well.
i'm pretty excited for the final table, a lot more good players in the field than last year, should make for some good action.
Now i'm thinking, Should i move up to the $12 180s or should i grind out another 1k sngs at the $2.2s...? I like the $2.2s cos it doesnt tilt me as much when i am 70% favourite to win a 50k pot and lose. I also have to take in consideration that I will have to cash out a lot constantly as i will be living in BKK again. Plus i dont need to grind vpps for my status anymore as I already reached Supernova this year
So since I'm going to be running a poker club soon and I have to write stuff out, I've been writing some articles more so to keep track of my thoughts.

Don’t be a nit! How to approach poker edzwoo
Think back to when you first started playing poker seriously. What was the first thing you learned? It might not be the same for you, but the first thing I learned was what types of starting hands to play. I started off crushing the penny games simply by following a little chart and some restriction rules, such as not calling raises with AJ because it’s an easily dominated hand. We all had some sort of starting hand chart memorized at some point, and for good reason. Newer or bad players that don’t have this basic guidance are generally crushed in the long run by those who do.
This is something everybody can understand on a basic level. It’s pretty clear that if one person plays better hands than the other, the player with the better cards has an advantage. Many people will get mathematical and say a range of AQ+, 22+ has 67% equity against a range of any two cards.
Stop!
If you think that said equity advantage is the main reason why beginners must follow starting hand charts, then you are wrong. In fact, if you still follow a starting hand chart because of this reasoning, then you are severely limiting your winrate.
All poker players have to understand that there are three advantages that we can have in poker: skill, cards, and position. Having a skill advantage is BY FAR the most complex and important advantage we can have. Positional advantage and card advantage are both very simple to understand. Having position gives us more information of our opponent and allows us to close the betting (assuming heads up), and having better cards will allow us to win more often at showdown. It’s important that I reiterate this: the reason why beginners must follow starting hand charts and play only good hands is NOT because of the additional equity (card advantage). It is actually because they lack any skill.
To explain this further, a beginner without guidance will make MANY –EV decisions. Starting hand charts and restriction rules drastically reduce a beginner from making –EV decisions. Note that I didn’t say ‘mistakes’, but –EV decisions. A –EV decision is always a mistake, but a mistake can still be neutral or +EV, such as missing a valuebet or valuebetting too small. When a beginner is playing the penny games and is dealt AA, to nearly any action on any flop, turn or river, it is VERY HARD to make a –EV play. AA on the vast majority of the boards against the vast majority of players in the penny games will be the best hand. When we tell a beginner to see a flop cheaply with a hand like 55, we tell him he must shut down if he doesn’t hit a set. This restriction is in place because if he continues, he is very likely to make a –EV decision. In the end, when we grind into the beginner’s head that –EV decisions are bad, he will dodge them all be faced with only neutral and +EV decisions. This beginner is now… a huge nit!
You’ve probably heard the term before, but here’s my definition. A nit is somebody who is so scared of making a –EV decision that they pass up on many +EV spots. Nits pass up thin valuebets and fold many hands preflop because they’ve been taught the world will explode if they get anywhere near something that can be –EV. They still cling onto their starting hand charts and rules. This is where most people get stuck, and it’s because they’ve been winning money for a while and are afraid to change what they already know. In order to play the best poker we can, it isn’t a matter of simply avoiding –EV spots. It is just as important to make the best +EV decision possible when we can. For example, say our opponent is willing to call $50 on the river with a worse holding. If we make a valuebet of $20, we just lost $30 on a mistake. If we check, we just made a $50 mistake. Even though we did not make a –EV decision, we made a mistake equally as bad as making a –EV call for $30 or $50. It is very easy for us move on and forget these mistakes simply because we’re usually content that we won money in the end.
So knowing all this, how can you apply it? Here are several tips that will help you improve your game:
1. Eliminate the idea of a starting hand chart from your game. For those of you who use a heads-up display to play online poker, this means approaching a poker game thinking you’re going to play your 15/11 game. Your VPIP/PFR should NOT be a static number. Let’s say you are in the big blind and it is folded around to the small blind who completes. This player is a weak player who folds to any half-pot continuation bet when he doesn’t hit a pair, and when he does, he leads into your strongly. Knowing all this, with your skill and positional advantage is so huge that you should be raising without even looking at your cards. In fact, your PFR should probably be greater than or equal to how often this player limps in. Beginner hand charts are used to prevent us from making –EV decisions. The actual hands you play should be dependent upon if there are any +EV spots available. And there are a LOT.
2. Do not limit yourself to certain rules you have learned in poker. This is often referred to as ‘standard’ play. For example, say you backdoor the nuts against a bad player who you suspect has a holding he really likes. The pot is $30 and you both have $90 behind. Many players will not even consider making a 3x pot shove here even though it is clearly the best play, simply because overbetting is not ‘standard’.
3. If you are going to make a bet or raise for value, start with the maximum and work your way down. Remember, the maximum is whatever is left in your stack, not the size of the pot. As ridiculous as it might sound, if you are dealt AA and there is a limper, first think about the merits of shoving on his limp, because sometimes it’s actually the most profitable play. DO NOT start off thinking you are going to isolate him with your 4 big blind plus 1 big blind limp system.
4. Do not ‘auto pilot’. Auto piloting is when you make a decision without giving it any thought. In any given spot, you must first assess if you can make +EV decisions. Folding should only be done when you go through every situation and realize they are all –EV. This is crucial to improving as a poker player, because you are constantly trying to push all your edges, and will learn more in the process. Auto piloting will not help you learn.
