I just talked with a friend of mine from HS and he's got the info on a handful of underground poker games. I don't think any of them are literally underground... unless they're hosted in someones basement (har har... ok no more bad jokes). But I was just expecting some home games that were consistent but it sounds like a full out Boiler Room type of operation. They've got dealers, waiters, food, drink, rake, etc. I wonder if there will be a steel door like at Teddy KGB's place.

I definitely wanna play more live poker but I wonder if this is a good idea. Concerns:

1) I have no idea how illegal this is, but I assume it is illegal. I figure if it's just some random home game it's really unlikely that cops would come, and if they did it would be easy to get out of. But since this is a type of casino set up I have a feeling I might actually be taking a slight risk. Probably not a huge one, but hell what do I know.

2) Rake. I have no idea what is fair rake or how to follow that shit. In Vegas it was a total mystery to me. I don't want to be getting myself into a situation where I will get rake raped. What should I be looking for?

3) I don't think this is a huge concern, but I feel like my risk of being robbed will hit its peak if I go to one of these places. I've never really worried about it before cause I mostly play online and the live games have either been at real casino's or home games with friends. But this will basically be me by myself with a bunch of people I don't know at a location that is probably pretty poorly protected. Luckily it's in Boulder CO so that reduces the risk cause people around here just aren't criminals very often, but I think this is probably the type of crowd/situation that would attract the few that we do have. I am probably worrying too much about this though as it's really unlikely. I guess I will actually have to watch the dealer for once to make sure he's legit.

4) I wonder, will the quality of play actually be good here? Home games are always filled with donks, but this sounds a bit more serious. I dunno if it will still be full of fish. Probably, but I wonder.

Despite these worries I'm definitely gonna go. There's a smaller NL100 game that I will check out first. If that goes well I'll try the NL200 game. If that goes well I'll try the NL300 game. I don't know if there's anything higher than that around here right now.

Any advice is much appreciated!

So cashed out a little and am going to vegas for a week. Going to leave on thursday and arrive on thursday night. Partly to attend Evolution (big ass fighting game tournament) but mainly to just have a vacation with friends. Probably will be playing some poker as well.

So yea, I'd like to be more comfortable with my live game. I came up with a plan. Everytime anyone tries to talk to me about anything remotely related to poker, hands or whatever I'll try to quote Ash from Evil Dead/Army of Darkness, because after all, is there anyone even remotely as bad-ass as him? Here's a couple of examples from imdb:

"Honey, you got reeeal ugly!"

When I think about it sounds so incredible stupid though. How can that be?

Havn't played much last few day. Breakevenish today due to faggot (aka TAG-reg) sucking out with A8s vs Ako on 10/20. Been watching a ton of MTT-vids and I feel I've learned a few things. Played some limit on FTP too. Pretty fun, but really swingy.

fffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

down on like 60k hands. Not because I would be running so bad (partly that too tho) but because I just play so fucking bad. Unreal how fucking terrible I can be. I mean its like I'm on megatilt all the time. god. I know very well that Iam just doing monkey crap and so on but my play seems just out of control. Well cashed out 2,6k and forgot about moving to nl200, I think I'll have a break and then utilize the "myth-method" of starting from nl10 and then not moving up untill I have made 10 buyins on each level.

Other than that, life is probably better than ever. Its summer (which after finnish winter is so awesome), and I was just accepted to study economic- and socialhistory, which is even more awesome. For most readers its probably sounds silly that I'm so happy about starting my studies, but finnish university system is quite unlike US or France or whatever: studying doesnt cost anything, and one has to qualify throught a selection exam. 2,5 months of studying (i now know the table of contents of "human web: a bird eye view of history" by heart) luckily did pay off, and I was well in the top 12% accepted in

My reasoning here was this could easily be a busted flush draw, and if he had a straight, it would have been a very well hidden straight, hence he would have bet more for value. But i also had two blockers for a straight, making it less likely to have a straight. He indeed had a busted flush draw. Opponent himself was a 55/8/1.6 but only over 88 hands.

A horrible call by me on the river. This hand happened about 5 minute after the first, so i really didn't think it through - first i have 0 blockers, and so theres more straights in his range. Second, he bets the entire pot - making it look a lot more like value(especially considering i probably have a strong hand). His stats were the same as the first player - but bet sizing and BLOCKERS made a difference here.

All in all, i learned my lesson. I still finished up a buyin, but could have been 2....

For some reason my HEM got all funky yesterday. It kinda self shrunk... now I can open it and it goes to the systray in the bottom right, and I click that and nothing pops up on the screen but it is in the bar on the bottom of my screen. I have to right click that and choose "maximize" and it will appear again. If I try and get it to a size where I can resize it, then it disappears. Any ideas on how to fix it?

AK hearts, sets and possible over pairs are the majority of his range. I figure flush draws are commited, TT JJ will fold out (but the pot's so big already), AA KK and sets will call. i mainly shoved because i didn't like the idea of the flush completing and me being in a shitthole spot, nor did i like the idea of a flush card missing and him possibly getting away from the hand.

America is like so cool! I love every second of it! Its superhot, always 100% sunny, wonderful beaches, lovely cities and nice people! Since I arrived here I havnt been still a single second and I wouldnt want that to change a bit!

The first day we decided to visit Universal Studios since it would only be 32'C and maybe 2 cloudes on the sky. It was awesome! Pretty cool to see all the studios etc. Especially waterworld was a really good show they had put up.

The day after that it was beach time, so we moved to a hotel in Santa Monica and went on the beaches there.. they are just so biiig and long! it was really fun to go swiming too since the ocean had a perfect temperature and it was a lot of big waves etc.. Ofc you have to end that with som UFC and a big buffé to become a perfect day!

Yesterday we moved to Hollywood and did all the touristy things you can do there. Walk down the walk of fame, take a tour to see the celebrities houses, take photos of the sign, see some celebrities (most famous Jay Leno) and buy some souvernirs etc. Pretty fun to do ones but I dont think there is much point doing again if you dont wanna really go ballin and spend lots of money on clubs etc.

This morning we rented a car and went on a small roadtrip. Stopped at a couple of places (like newport beach) and finally ended up in San Diego. I must say I love this "little" town (bigger then Stockholm, but compared to LA we came from) and even a city I could imagine myself living in. Very pretty!

So far, the trip has been perfect, and the best thing is that the best parts of the trip hasnt come yet! Thats Vegas(!) and the plan is that we will arrive there either tomorrow night or the day after that in the morning.. I will be sooo sick! I have longed for this day now for a long time and now it finally will happen!!
We are planning on staying at Bellagio atleast one night (it will be fun to see Bobbys room), and in some other hotel 2-3 nights, depending on a lot of things. Any recommendations? It would be fun to see a lot of different stuff when we´re finally here.
Except from poker I must visit a show too somewhere, havnt the slightest idea of whats running out there but I guess there are brochures on the hotels.

Hope to see some of you guys in Vegas the next few days!

I've been grinding a lot since coming home and I think I've been playing really well. The live sessions in Vegas actually taught me a lot about exploiting fish and gave me practice at creative thinking which has allowed me to take some new lines, make more bluffs, and value bet better. Overall I feel like I'm playing really well with lots of patience and emotional discipline.

I know I've had at least 1 losing session since I came back but I think the rest were break even or winning. I dunno cause I'm still not checking results. That's also why I haven't posted a end month results blog in ages, cause if I'm really playing for the long term a single session, week, even month is just a small part of it all. I think yearly results make a bit more sense to pay serious attention to, or monthly results if you're playing 100k+ hands a month. This also helps me to approach wins and losses with the same mindset. I don't think huge highs from wins and gigantic lows from loses is a healthy way to live, cause while the highs are awesome the lows are devastating. If I can approach the entire game as a long term investment and just focus on how I played then I can be happy all the time as long as I keep playing well. Letting my happiness get tied into how my bankroll is looking always caused me more pain and suffering than joy.
