teh pokerses by shaneomac, July 31

so i really havent been playing poker much til about a week or two ago. i was skyping with mayzerg n mikeymoo and they effectively convinced me to begin grinding again. so i started playing again and i feel im playing pretty well i guess. i really believe its all due to not using a hud. when i used to use a hud, i would get distracted by all the shit all over the screen and convince myself to do things that i know werent right.

so im pretty excited for august and im hoping for a good month and to move to NL100 relatively soon.

also i find that talking to other poker players on skype is fun and keeps my attention focused on poker and not doing other shit. if anyone wants to ghost me or skype with me or vice versa while i play PM me.

still need to get my money off cake somehow, so if anyone can help with that itd b swell and greatly appreciated!

Anyways I got off to a brutal start to the month since I didnt play at all in vegas and was rusty or something I guess, not the greatest month ever but I cant really complain... started playing a lot better towards the end of the month so hopefully keep that up in august

July by Cooper83, July 31

Well here were the goals

[x]60k hands
[]BR of $3500
[]Short term shots at 100nl
[]find a good job
[x]finish moving back into my parents place.....fuck my life

Well I played enough and had a month I would like to forget, I did make a marginal profit with the rakeback and such but overall I'm pretty disappointed. To much mass tabling to meet the hand goal for the month but on the upside I know I'm capable of mass grinding if needed, the only issue is variance can be a bitch if you run bad in flips or get setup a couple times it can lead to some very bad days. Obviously didn't make the bankroll goal and without that I didn't take shots at 100nl which I guess is a good thing. Atleast I stayed within my bankroll and didn't tilt like crazy. I also failed at getting a good job, I applied for many and got interviews for most. The problem is anything I want to do I don't have enough experience and anything I don't really wanna do but pays well I'm overqualified for. And the final goal of finish moving, yeah well that happened. 26 unemployed and living with the parents.........again. I really could afford to live on my own, but I don't wanna sign a lease then find a good job and have to pay rent in two places. Also it just doesn't make sense for me to do it if my parents are ok with me living at their place and aren't going to charge me anything. So basically I'll be giving up a ton of privacy to save up a ton of money. I'm hoping that this will hopefully help me progress in poker as well as put me in a good position to buy a house soon after I settle in somewhere once I have a job.

Excited to play on August 5th by Masaki, July 31

My dad leaves on August 5th and all I can think about is playing again. I'm going to start taking the game more seriously and start anaylizing my hands more, I.E posting hands on this site and I'll try to do some instructional videos. In other news I installed Windows 7 beta. I had a fucking hard time to. After first install the freakin`thing kept giving me blue screen of death while I was surfing the net. I figured it was probably my network card. I checked he device manager and sure enough Windows 7 beta thought my network card was something it wasn`t. I had to change the driver and now its running with no problems. So, if you try installing windows 7 make sure its up to date and you have all the right drivers

I made it by Nadeem, July 31

After grindin 2 and 5 NL i'm finally rolled for 10NL.
I must say i feel much more confident playin within my BR and respecting it. I really feel I can beat these stakes.
I'll be back later with some numbers.

I also made the switch from PS to FTP, because stars really began to tilt me.
Their updates sucked like hell. The first time i updated my sound wasnt working. The second time i couldnt register for tournament.
Then, for no reason and without a warning they blocked my account cause my brother was playing on the same computer.
So i switched to FTP and i really like it. Suprisingly i find it softer then PS. There are fewer donks and the tourneys are less crowed.
So I really consider stayin on FPT.
Well, i'ma grind some 10NL again.
Wish me luck
Peace

July recappaments by Naib, July 31

First off, quoting the July goals thread:

  On July 01 2009 13:27 Naib wrote:
[] Platinum Star.
[] 30-40k hands (it's really the time to stop slacking off)
[] Continue getting minor scores @ the weekly tournaments, hopefully luckboxing a major one.
[] Keep the girl I hooked up with last month
[] More articles. MORE.

Edit:
[] SUPER DYNAMIC COOKIN' TIME!

[x] Platinum Star No explanation needed, I have played enough. (not much, but enough)
[x] 30-40k hands Yay. At the shorter end of the 30-40k though.
[ ] MTTs Well, apart from a few very minor scores, this month was a negative tourney-wise. Bad, bad. Should read more MTT articles.
[ ] Keeping the girl Haha well, fail. I'm not too disappointed by that though (well ofc a bit) we didn't go well together. Eye-ing the next 'target' atm, updates to come (or not if I fail!).
[x] Reading articles. A success, but I should still read more. Shift+deleting WC3 (damn scrubs @ DotA) should help a lot in order to focus on this aspect of my game. Especially need some MTT wisdom (quitting MTTs until I get a lot better, save for the weekly / monthly freerolls / ocassional FPP blowing @ satellites)

Graph:

http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5664/julygraph.jpg

A few notes: Seems like folding more was what I needed. I know, I know - redline is really fugly, but my showdown winnings more than make up for it - so it would look. Still trying to get the redline back on track though, I feel I get bullied out in some spots where I shouldn't allow it. Next month the priority is to keep showdown wins at the same rate, whilst improving the redline.

Total winnings ain't bad, but could be better. Also shadowed by the fact that I ended the month negative in MTTs. No whines though, a positive graph is a positive graph.

Good luck at the tables LP, and I hope your July was better than mine!

Jew Lie by mikeymoo, July 31

Moved down to NL10 in late June.
NL25 towards the end, definitely plugging my leaks there imo.

Graph:

about ~$250 from rakeback, which is super cool too.

Going for an Iron month in August.

Not much else to say, just got to put in more hands.

Goal is to be winning at NL50 by September. I've said this so many times but I'm a little more motivated this time. Go me.

Shoutouts to panorama (you're cool), response (ship it), semper (wake up on time), mayzerg (everything's a conspiracy), defenestrate (stop being a nit), zalfor (play less tables), shaneomac (more volume plz).

July review by WilsWils, July 31

Whiffed on almost all my goals except the RL goals. Had a pretty sick NL100 run and i developed some leaks due to the sudden lack of confidence. Hired a coach for 150/hr whose way of looking at FR makes it look hilariously simple. My game has changed a tonne and i feel alot more confident and just know what to do in spots again.

Anyway:

Profit: down 100$~ or so, basically BE
Hands played : 55k (was too depressed to play anymore heh)
RB: 650~
Bonuses: 350
homegames: +350

1300$ month whoopdeedoo.

Going to crush august, i know it

Aug goals:

Hands: 100k
BR goal: 9k , then take a shot at 1/2. drop down at 8k.
Maintain a healthy balance of exercise, social life, and not just staring at the computer all day.

Longterm:

solid winning 1-2 reg during school term.

gl all

Goblet of Fire Tilt by k2o4, July 30

I'm a harry potter fan. Bigtime. Read all the books and have owned the first 3 movies forever, watched em way too many times. Then the Goblet of Fire came out and totally blew balls so I didn't buy the DVD.

But now that the 6th movie is out I decided I need to rewatch em all so I bought the 4th/5th movies and they just arrived today. I just put Goblet of Fire in with hopes that I wouldn't hate it as much, but so far that has not been the case.

Why does it suck so bad? Mainly because it was one of the best books with an awesome twist and great clues placed from the very beginning to let you try and solve the mystery. But the movie is totally focused on visuals - they cut out all the cool storyline and instead put in new scenes that are visually cool. The story jumps from cool visual scene to cool visual scene, and it is choppy and stupid.

Then they decided to ask everyone to act completely out of character. Dumbledore, who was perfectly acted in the first 2 movies and mediocre in the 3rd by the new guy, becomes totally wrong. He's supposed to be the wise, calm, all powerful stud. But in this movie he's an incompetent angry little old man. He keeps yelling which is something the real dumbledore rarely does. He seems impotent, like in the random scene (which is not in the book) where the ceiling goes all weird and dumbledore looks not only confused, but scared, and then mad eye moody fixes the problem. BULLSHIT. That's not dumbledore at all, he'd be calm and fix it without a second thought. Total crap.

Anyway, it's very tilting to watch them destroy this book. I can't imagine how anyone who didn't read the book could enjoy this movie unless the only thing they cared about was CGI and pretty visuals. Seriously, it was a great story and the movie is a piece of shit.

But for some reason I will let it play the entire way through, just like I do when I get into a starwars mood and rewatch all 6 but force myself to suffer through episode 1.

Finally busto by NewbSaibot, July 30

Man that took long enough. Dunno why I tortured myself for a week with $13 playing 1/2 cent. If I learned anything I learned one thing, which harks back to what caused my inevitable downfall to begin with, and that was table control. Considering I play one-table exclusively, with a limited bankroll, very certain table conditions must exist in order for me to make a profit. If I played with a larger bankroll and more tables I could comfortably play a certain limit and let variance get washed away by statistics. But I dont. I play a high variance style, so I have to do certain things to try and nullify as many other forms of variance as possible, and most of that revolves around table selecting. Whatever the reasons, if a table is looking to be very high variance already, such as maniacs or stations, I simply have to pack my bags and walk away. I have such ego and poker pride that it kills me every time to do this. However considering penny stakes are mostly maniacs and calling stations I gradually became more and more comfortable telling myself out loud "well you're out of position against two crazies and a station. You have lost control of this table." And then leaving. I literally have to say it out loud for it to have any effect on me.

I was approaching the point in my poker career where I was going to have to seriously ask myself "can you do this?". Last month's success put a little glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. This months failure was just a lesson. I have about 1 step left on the poker ladder before I have to admit I'm a losing player, and that step will finally be coaching. I intend to reload myself for NL50 or NL100 and grind one-table again, and if that fails, I will concede that my thoughts on teaching myself a loose aggressive style with a limited bankroll are flawed and not a winning approach to the game, at which point I will then seek coaching and put my poker career in someone elses hands. And if THAT fails, well I'll probably have to hang it up since I will be nearing the 2 year mark and remember Fayth once saying "if you have yet to turn a profit after 2 years, you should quit poker" which I believe. In fact this looming deadline has been haunting me these last few months, since poker has been my escape route to financial freedom which I so desperately desire. I'm sure I'll find a couple of last second excuses to keep me in the game, like giving a serious run for tournaments (I think I have played like 10) or maybe even be a gay SNG grinder. But those endeavors will cost even more money to finance than 6max cash, and I will be starting from the ground up, so add a bunch of training and practicing in the mix and it might just not be feasible.

For the record, my idea on how to make a living at this game isnt to run a roll all the way up to play durrr and ivey. Once I reach a certain threshold I will then go into super bankroll nit mode and do the whole 300 BI thing to maintain myself at a limit which can pay the bills every month. Something like 5/10 or 10/20 should be livable for a one-table grinder (I have to play higher stakes to make the same monthly profits a lower limit grinder can who plays more tables and hands). I'm simply trying to thrust myself out of months if not years of micro stakes grinding and get to a limit where I can sustain my livelihood quick. Im not too worried about the experiences I'll miss at micro stakes (i have like 100,000 hands at them anyway) as I consider them a total joke anyway and offer nothing to a high stakes pro, not even discipline. The high stakes games are so radically different from micro stakes the two cant be compared imo, so I consider it a waste of time. Basically I'm using my real-life income to finance my poker career rather than using my poker bankroll to finance my poker career.

No interesting graphs to post, my last blog showed my losing sessions and I never recovered so minus another 50 bucks off the top and im officially at 0.

On a side note, I think i might move back to stars. FTP rakeback just turned out to be a big "meh" for me. The most I ever got was like $80 in one week and that was when I was playing 2/4. That is about the size of your average turn bet or flop cbet, so the way I see it, who gives a shit. A months worth of rakeback playing one-table is passed around every 5 minutes just playing normal everyday poker. Plus I am a little bit ticked that I got offered such a weaksauce bonus when other people are getting $500. So fuck it. I kinda miss stars anyway.

for TJ.. a sad day. by BigRed0000, July 30

I got some pretty bad news the other day, a friend of mine from highschool who was one of the original regs in our h/s poker game was shot and killed over a bad drug deal. He was the originator of the nickname 'bigred' and one of the coolest guys to play with. RIP TJ Geredine.

Another 30K hand day, don't think I will make it by Joeingram1, July 30

Last few days have been nuts for me, played 30k hands i think 3 days and 20k the other. Was back up to around 9.2k and then of course had a good -million buyin session and was just left demoralized as ever. Even more then when i lost 15k last month playing higher. I sat in bed sad for about an hour and then decided would still give it a shot to make 3.2k last 2 days. Today started off well first session about +1100. My high point for the day was around 1.9k and i was looking good but then of course I don't go to sleep and just keep playing.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/cd70f.dayyyyy.jpg

This month

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/d6860.dayyyyy.jpg

I mean 29 BI day is possible but I don't think with my mindset right now I can do it. I am going to sleep and give it my best shot but if my first session doesnt go wel tomorrow morning then I am just going to book some of my losing prop bets and call it a month. Earned about 12.5k from fpp/milestones alone so that plus the 7k I made so far is still pretty good.

I made alot of prop bets this month and I am still going to win a few so will actually only end up down around 2.5k-3k in props which I can deal with. I am very excited to get back to a normal life and plan on dating about 15 girls next month to take my mind off poker some. Or I will end up just playing more poker lol idk yet. Some of the comments in my 2+2 thread for me being #1 at nl100 are really funny. Some people hating but alot of really nice people/comments.

I guess in a way it is attention whoring but it does have its positives. The most important for me is the amount of action I will be able to get in future prop bets is made so +++++ev with graphs I post/my threads. Also people just enjoy reading about me swinging 30 BI daily and if I was in their position I would defintly enjoy seeing it also and follow it. idk if this makes sense but I cant really think to straight right now so lol

I guess some positives came out of this month. I figured out I still have my grinding ability and am going to get SuperNova Elite for sure and ship the 100k in bonuses which of course is good. I figured out I need to work on my game and the tilting/dumb fucking plays I make. And I did make like 15k+ so the month wasn't a total failure imo.

I hope they dont have double VPP week first week of august also because then I have to play 24 hours a day then as well

Will update tomorrow with a final month review and who the f knows, maybe I can win 29 BI tomorrow. Well see
