NL25 part 2 by ConquistadoR, September 03

So I have been playing more of it today. It went pretty good first, I was 4 tabling and making really good plays and reads.

Then I got a few bad beats and I felt a bit of anger coming up inside of me.. that led me to make some bad plays and the spiral started again and it got worse and worse. At least I could stop playing before things got out of hand.

This never happens on NL5. JUST on fucking NL25 I feel like I cant control my anger after a few suckouts, maybe it's because of 4 tabling or maybe because of the increased money, I dont know, when I 14 table NL5 and I get a suckout or played bad then it almost doesnt affect me, I keep playing solid.

But when im 4 tabling and get a beat I'm getting so angry and I just want to make it back fast, and all just stops working cuz i cant concentrate anymore and think clearly..... gah.

Here's the graph of today's play.

NL 5 is more profitable for me definately LOL.

Random stuff by Gawuss, September 03

Ok so I just busted out of the first WCOOP event and thought I'd write something.
First of all, August graph:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/92731.aug09.jpg

Basically I broke even including RB and the money I withdrew. I had crazy swings as you can see, tilted a little which obv sucks :/ plus I ran pretty badly
At least watching 1 coaching vid/day became my second nature and I'm motivated as hell to improve and finally move up to 5/10nl. I'm going to take some shots there in September. In a couple of days I should be playing on my own account after more than 4 years of playing under my brother's name. I just gotta upgrade my Neteller acc status and here we go

Summer is over and school has already started. I think it's kinda cool because I can hang out with my classmates again and hopefully get to know some new ppl that just began their education in my high school (girls are the main target obv )

My sister's got her birthday in October and I'd like to buy her something nice. She (and my mom) will get a new ipod I bought with vip points on some poker room but I want to get her one more thing. I was thinking about a laptop cause she's been talking about how she'd like to have one so if you guys find anything worth buying up to like $1k I'd be grateful.

In my previous entry I promised to write about my future plans/goals etc. but I guess I'll postpone it again. That subject needs its own entry.

Hope you enjoyed this one,

Mike

Past Month by deahttubb, September 03

I started the month with about a $110 downswing so I decided to take August and try to really try to work out kinks in my game and not just try to play a certain amount of hands and not think everything through. I played NL 5 trying new things every week in order to get enough hands in to see if what i was doing would work or not.

Near the end of the month I got my stats to be closer to what I feel comfortable playing, although the stats are not reflected in the screen shot with the NL5 stats. I also worked on how to play what form each position and found out what works once again. I feel very comfortable coming into September with my game plan and the results should be good this month and I would like to be at NL 25 pretty soon.

NL25 by fenner, September 03

So I decided to play 6max again, after chatting with someone and he convinced me to take another shot. NL25, not been going very well. Think I'll play again tomorrow and if I have another losing session I'll grind nl5 for 5 days for a little rebuild then decide whether I want to have another go at 6max or FR. Take a look at my last page of hands too and comment on them, it'd be helpful, thanks LP

Heres some numbers and colored lines and stuff, all 4 tabling:

Looking for a coach/profit sharing. by the cleaner, September 03

I cashed out alot couple of months ago, left myself with about 5000$ to regrind from 100nl, but things haven´t gone to good since then. I have been able to play for expenses, but I´m having a hard time regrinding. Probably running bad and definetly playing bad. I sure I have lots of leaks. I would really be interested in some coaching/profit sharing deal, so if there is anybody interested please let me know. I´m supernova on PS and will be grinding about 60k hands/month. My PS screename is "the clêaner". ATM my Bankroll is at 2500$.

It's full ring cash games.

Back to poker by UCSB_Georgi, September 03

So in my last blog I posted stats from 10nl, since then I have successfully moved up to 25nl after failing with my first shot. Having beaten 25nl very solidly in the past I have noticed a difference in the game after a 6 month absence.

1. Wayyyyyy more 3betting/4betting
2. Significantly more LAG players
3. Less fish

But hey im not complaining there is still plenty of money to be made and im happy to say I am thinking about poker more deeply than ever. My first try moving up I was trying too hard to buy pots and not giving people enough credit, but since then I have stayed focused and tried hard to analyze and exploit people's tendencies.

Results from August up until today:

As for life I am recovering from shoulder surgey. I had dislocated my left shoulder about 5 times in the last year and it definitely gives me peace of mind knowing that I no longer will have to deal with that. However, I still need to have my right shoulder operated on , but one step at a time. The doctor said I have a genetic predisposition for dislocations because a bone which is meant to keep the ball in the socket is thinner than average and hence isn't as effective for stabilization. Health aside, im excited to be going back to beautiful Santa Barbara to start my third year and see all my great friends. Only 2 more weeks!

Busto to MSNL by PanoRaMa, September 03

Exactly one year ago I wrote a blog post entitled "MSNL to Busto", the entirety of which can be found here:

+ Show Spoiler +

That was easily the lowest point of my career. After having made a decent amount of money playing poker, I honestly thought my time was up. I remember reading a F4Zi post around this time stating his intent to quit poker as well (ofc he never did), and one part of his post said he had accumulated over 100k from this game. I was sitting in my apartment in my most favorite city in the world, Tokyo, Japan, thinking "If I quit now what would I have to show for it?" It was soul crushing...I had accomplished nothing despite having so many aspirations to actually do well. I once played WarCraft 3 competitively, I never became amazingly good but I devoted myself to figuring out the game. In the end I accomplished nothing, just a few years of my life I could never get back, for zero dollars, for zero recognition.

I was in too deep with poker. What's that stupid saying? Putting all your eggs in one basket? I was very careless with college, taking dumb electives with absolutely no idea what to major in. I had no other financial opportunities besides poker, and if I quit poker the only option I'd have would be to return to school, accept the fact that I'd have to graduate much later than all my friends, and figure out what to do from there. As a poker player, it's a bad spot to be in - to be restricted to only one option. As poker players we pride ourselves on our freedom of choice and liberated lifestyle.

My pride was long gone by this point. I cashed out the remaining few thousand in my FTP account to ensure I'd have enough for expenses and school for at least 1 quarter, and asked my friend Matt for a stake to play 1/2. The deal was I'd take 8k now and pay back 10k by the end of the year. I had 4 months to get things straightened out. Part of the reason why I offerred 20% roi was so I can get some coaching from Matt as well, at this point I was determined to just start new and improve back to a winning style all over again.

Thankfully, I started running well soon after which gave me a great confidence boost. I soon left my buddy Joe who I had gone to Japan with. If Matt were instrumental in helping me strategically, Joe was instrumental in helping me understand my emotional tilt and the nature of variance. One month later, I took 4th in the Daily 80 Special for 9k and paid back the stake.

In the remainder of 2008 I was able to make around 25k, and had gone back to school.

2009 started off really well and at this point I'm up 70k for the year. It took making monstrous strides in my understanding and improving of not just poker theory but being a better poker professional. I took an extended break from school after taking 1 quarter of classes in 2008. I'm extraordinarily thankful to my friends, coaches, and just anyone that gave me words of encouragement or a reality check.

Over the course of the last 1 year since I wrote the original blog post I've made roughly 100k. I'm still VERY far from where I want to be, and 100k is definitely nothing to be complacent about, but I'm extremely proud of what I've been capable of this past year. Looking back on it now, it was because of WarCraft 3 that I even met Matt and Joe in the first place (both extremely good American War3 players in their prime). My gaming background is what brought my to LiquidPoker as well. It seems like in a way, WarCraft 3 was indirectly responsible for my Poker "success". It's an interesting intangible, that I think everyone here should be thankful for .

So I'd like to extent my deepest gratitude to the people I talk to constantly online that, in their own ways help me tremendously: Matt, Joe, bertkc, cheet, Winston, Uptown, Andrew C., Pillage, Chris C., Ray, Peter, and of course people at LP who put up with my blog whining and have given me encouragement, including Exil, BalloonFight, jolin, collegsucks, fayth, ket, Rich, k2o4, TianYuan, night2o1, zulunation, etc.

I wouldn't wish horrible downswings or breakeven stretches upon anyone reading this, but if you are unfortunate enough to be stuck in a corner like that just know that there's at least one other person out there that's been able to make it out.

Good luck guys
