FTP tableninja/Half-pot limit STUD - tips? by itz-sooooted, October 27

My casino spreads a half-pot limit stud game - and its really really soft. the only problem is that i've never played stud before.

where do YOU think the best resources/ways of learning stud quickly and efficiently are?

on another note, i just downloaded yesterday tableninja for FTP, and just hotkeyed everything.

unfortunately, i'm still at the stage where i'm making mishits - its cost me about a buyin over 1200 hands so far. luckily, im testing over micro/low stakes.

heres a snippet of a pretty dumb misclick:

Lots of stuff by DustySwedeDude, October 27

MMA and the like

I found some good steams for the K1 world max finals here: http://kimjudas.blogspot.com/

High quality striking which is really nice to see since some people seems to think that Silva and Machida is actually world class strikers . They're obviously great and all but in the pure striking department the small K1-guys are really crazy. That's just some mighty fast hands :/

And on the fighting note; Overeem looked like a total monster at the weight ins vs James Thompson and the fight lasted about as long as you can imagine. Can't wait to see him fight Fedor. Can't imagine anyone actually beating that Russian dude but vs Overeem I'd imagine it'd be one hell of a fight. Overeem is really strong, really big and has very good stand up so Fedor would probably have to get him to the ground unless he wants a really close, and possibly losing, fight. I know Fedor is crazy strong and everything, but Overeem makes Lesnar look like a fat American beer-drinking and TV-watching fuck rather then the monster he is in his own right.

Anyway; War Übereem!

Poker

Next month I'll have a ton of school stuff. Mostly really interesting things so I'll try to like open up my mind and get wise and profound and all that stuff. I'll also be social with non-poker player and non-druggies a lot more then the last few months, which will be very nice. I don't think I'll get to play too much poker, but I'll play some live (Iop got me interested in some kind of team poker challenge in sthlm), I'll try to get in like 6-7 real long mid stakes sessions (5k hands) and then mostly play whatever I feel like. However, I will try to put school first since; A. It's interesting and B. I've played so much poker it's ridiculous.

This month I've played close to 90k hands, made a okish profit but since I've raked like a mad man my rakeback will be about twice what I'm used to which should give me something in the neighbourhood of 30k€ in total profit. Not the greatest month ever, but really solid and that's pretty much what I was looking for considering how I actually lost a little last month and won't have that much time to grind in November. Also learned a bit, I'm much less of a Omaha fish now then when I begun the month (and it only cost me like 10k or so!) and I got my head on straight about one hold'em concept I had kinda forgotten thanks to something Ansky said in a training video. Think I got a little bit to passive in some spots before trying to play "perfect" and such. Now I'm back to blind aggression as my go to solution for problematic and close spots.

Other stuff

Will go and see Zombieland tommorow with some friends. Think that movie might be the best one this year. Woody Harrelson is crazy good in everything he does.

Shogun is the true LHW champion. Machida will probably make a better fight in the rematch though.

oh, and someone wrote something about the Queen song Another one Bites the Dust in some hand I posted or something (can't find it now) so now I put that on everytime I stack someone.

Need advice by palak, October 27

So right now I hate my school/major with a passion and can guarantee I won't be a chemical engineer ever in my life. But I will graduate this spring with a bachelors in it. I was going to get a masters in the 4 years but decided to drop it simply due to it requiring a large amount of work I don't see a point in doing when I won't be that as a living or anything close to it. My current life plan is to play poker for a living after I get out of school while having a part time job somewhere where i'm insanely over qualified (like receptionist or some easy 16 hrs a week shit) mostly just to maintain a social life (plus a steady paycheck will be nice). Thinking that I will probably be a 2/4 grinder (which I'm currently playing) when I graduate in May (maybe 3/6 keepin my fingers crossed). I have a friend who I can live with from may to December for super cheap, like 400 a month total rent since he is going to be taking an extra semester to graduate. Also I am planning on becoming a part time student next semester, I only need to take one more class to graduate, so i'm going to take that class alone and use the spare time to put more time/focus into poker and having fun. Maybe try and actually put in like 35 or 40k hands in a month instead of the 20-23k I normally put in right now.

There's my plan, now here's the problem. Parents don't know this. My mom knows I want to play poker for a living and is OK with it, but she doesn't know I dropped the masters and that I want to switch to part time. But talking with her about life isn't my main concern, it's the talk with my dad. My dad doesn't know how much poker I play, or that I want to play it for a living. He thinks I want to become an engineer or enter the professional world with some other full time job or go to grad school. Everyone in my dads family is a lawyer or doctor from a prestigious school I mean Yale/Brown/Harvard/etc. I will be the first one to not do this and will be looked down on by the family. My grandparents have both said they will cut me off of any money if I continue to play poker (they said this like 2 years ago).

I have to tell my parents, bout my future life plans over xmas break (at the latest). I am wondering if anyone has advice for how to carry out this conversation, arguments to make about it, etc. The largest argument of, "look at how much money I'm making" won't work because for my dads family it's not about money it's about job bragging about how great there kids are. What ways would you approach this problem, I'm sure someone on this website had to face a similar problem at some point.

Also any criticisms of my life plan, like back up of bachelors in engineering from a top 20 school with a 3.3 or so GPA isn't good enough, or what part time jobs to look for are welcome.

goal fffff fail by palak, October 26

Goals of the month were 50k hands and 16k profit. Here is how october has been so far. Running damn good on the month, so now I am only 1.5 buyins below lifetime 2/4 . 30k hands into 2/4 I'm running at like 4.92bb/100. Starting to play well though and think I may be getting the hand of 2/4 so I will have to see if i get some respectable volume in next month and start raping souls.

storytime/pokerupdate/general ramblings by WilsWils, October 26

So here's some cool stuff that has happened now

I'm finally out of the hole that this shit-tastic month has dug for me, was -3k or so but now im up +1k which is always nice, ive only played about 41k hands this month, waaay important midterms and projects due within the next couple weeks so looks like i haev to stop being a lazy son of a bitch and balance my life better. I get thrown off balance and start sleeping in / being lazy waay too easy.

I've ordered about 600$ worth of stuff this month on clothes , and was like ehh whatever its all good since i havent bought any clothes for myself in like half a year, mostly stuff from kidrobot and some cool gstar sweaters , but i had NO idea i had to pay duties. So anyway today my massive order from KR.com came in, and im in the middle of a 10 tabling nl200 session, im dealt AA in the BB and hear a knock on the door, and im like SHIT its the UPS man (i can look out my window to the front), i 3bet a CO raiser and its folded around to him all the time while the guy is knocking harder and harder, at this point im scared hes giong to fucking leave and go to the post office which is a million miles away and im too fucking lazy to drive and get it (im in my jammies at this point), i look back to my tables and start frantically sitting out, and THE FUCKING CO RAISER DISCONNECTS. SO we're in the middle of a decent hand (about 190bb deep or so) and im sitting ehre watching this son of a bitch time down when the guy gets up and starts walking away from the door.

i immediately run downstairs cursing and fling open the door
he turns around with an angry look and goes package for mr wong? im like LOL SUP THATSA ME LOL SORRY

and hes like "yeah , there's a COD for 70$ on this"

so i go WTF? for what? and he says "its for the brokerage when it was imported from the states" , so this is a pretty terrible beat, i already spend like 300 bucks online, then get dinged for an additional like 25% in IMPORT TAX? SINCE WHEN? HELLOOO NAFTA? so because its cash only i tell him to wait, and i run back upstairs ripping apart my room for spare change

at this point, the guy has just come back and fucking min 4bets me, i 10 second fake tank (LOLOLOL) while eyeing my room for my wallet and then shove. HE FUCKING TIMEBANKS and i sift through my fucking wallet and can only find 100's (went to casino earlier in the week). so i go FML and run downstairs with a hundo while the UPS guy goes uhh i dont have change with a sly smirk

im like FUCK ME he doesnt carry change cause hes ups, but i dont have 70$ in cash, AND im mad tilted from this terrible circumstances ive found myself, AND I WANT MY CLOTHES NOW DAMNIT

so i shove the hundo in his face, tell him to keep the change, sign the release form, and he goes "cheers!" he was some brit or aussie or somethign and i take ym package and run upstairs just in time to see villain bink my AA by flopping a set w/ his QQ. F M L

as i rage in my room, i get another knock on m y door , i stomp downstairs and see the guy who forgot my signature on some other slip, i sign it and tell him to enjoy the tip and he says thank you again sir and lifts his hat to me im like OH COOL and he leaves

then i went back into my room and tried on the clothes. at least they were awesome and fit.

poker wise, ive gotten a new coach who is a 5/10 reg on FTP and i believe was one of the biggest winners at 3/6 - 2/4 on FTP , and has helped out my game come further than it has before. It's at this point that i basically have to rely on myself to putting this into action, and not levelling myself, was well worth the $$$. Ive basically stopped playing nl100 unless theres literally no nl200 tables going (i usually start one or two i think..).

Also, a reg from 2+2 went batshit insane on me a week ago when i shoved over his insanely obvious bluff line with K high in a 3b pot deep. he berated me hard , and talked about how i was a terrible 350k hand breakeven reg and he couldnt believe he was down alot of $$ to me etc and how my PTR shows me as a terribly player when PTR is very, VERY inaccurate for MANY people i have talked to. he was accusing me of never starting tables, being a nit, terrible player, incapable of folding (lolwut), then challenged me to HU for rolls. he even offered me coaching because i was so terrible (lol?)

anyway so yeah..basically all i need to do now is put in the hands at nl200 and put up some solid results for november. I dont know how im going to go about doing that because i have a huuuuuge midterm i HAVE to do well on (im on academic probation because i fucked up my last 2 years), and a huuuge project in a class i HAVE to get an A in (to balance out the C im going to get in my other class D.

run goot one time plz

The Real UFC & POKER by AURELIUS, October 26

I have to write this, I love the fact that poker and UFC go together like pickles and hamburgers all depending your taste. Really though, the UFC today is not really the UFC too many rules and regulations. I have been there since day one since 1996. Let me first say no one will ever pass the feat of Royce Gracie 4 fights in one night and win them all no matter your weight or gi or no gi. The best No hold barred fighter in the world never even fought in the UFC " Rickson Gracie ". He is a BEAST!!!!!! VERY HUMBLE THOUGH.

Now you are wondering who am I ??? I have been on LP for a while watching listening and trying to learn but I am no rookie or chump when it comes to the FIGHT GAME. I trained with Kenny Florian and Roberto Miaia, I got my belts from them in brazilian jujitsu. Way back in 2001, when most of you were still playin gyouth soccer & hockey...LOL
Shat I am disciplined in jujitsu, thai & good ole american wrestling...I wish I could have found a sambo school (Thanks TAKTOROV)...I wished I could have trained with BAS RUTTEN his kicks and his elbows hard to take. But like the first UFC and general martial arts I have fell in love with POKER in my adult hood.

This where LP comes in, at times I think some on here are too arrogant or cocky but then there are times when people do make sense and very helpful to those that truly want to be good. I am glad I did find this site because I really realized alot of the poker royalty here like the same things I do ...poker, fights, girls , working out, doobies and money....LOL

Hopefully one day I will show my black ass to world and LP will be one of the reasons why.

NOW GO AHEAD AND TALK SHAT, MY UTES!!!!!!!

gl on and off the felts/mats,

AURELIUS

Coaching, UFC and future storytime by D_Zoo, October 26

First off I have some more free time coming up so I will be able to do more lessons for those who desire to do so.
My rates for individual sweating lessons are:
100nl:$105
200nl: $158
400nl+: $210

video analysis (leakfinder style where u make a video with no audio and give it to me and I add audio, etc) is
$105 for 100nl
$158 for anything over 100nl

- the weird numbers are because of government tax. What started off as giving a couple lessons has spiraled rather quickly and I claim the lessons as my business and pay tax on them. So if you pay tax then u can claim the lessons. For those that don't no worries I just call it a consulting business so has nothing to do with poker.

I will also do more coaching packages involving 10 lessons and daily HH review for hands outside session times which is a bit more money. I would only advise it for students who can stick to a more strict schedule and really eager and dedicated to learn and improve. It requires more commitment and time.

UFC
- I am a big UFC fan and should post more in those threads. I have seen or followed online everyone since UFC 1. The first few we sat around a buddy illegal cable box watching them then would make his couch cushions into an octagon and all fight each other. I was the smallest but never tired back then haha. Nazgul has recently turned me onto K1 which I always ignored since I heard the American rumours that everything Japanese was shady and fixed. If u never seen Manhoef fight u need to youtube this guy! Back to UFC, I bet on them all the time so anyone that wants to talk UFC let me know. I also bet sports everyday haha.

ALso I am now starting the winter bulk up and want to get to 220-230 pounds with ultimate goal a lean 205 by early next year (first 3 months). Thus, wish me luck =)

Stories
I have 3in mind for the next one and anyone who wants to vote can do so if they enjoy my stories. Here are the potential story titles
1)Assblow ( a long story that takes many amusing twists)
2) A few short stories (a few of the shorter ones)
3) Beastiality? (name says it all)

I will write it next time I come home from bar piss drunk

undisciplined, or, i nearly busto'd this weekend by collegesucks, October 26

This past weekend, I nearly decimated my bankroll by playing poker drunk. What was initially an innocuous drink eventually led to a horrible binge. In my drunkenness I became totally fearless so I fired up multiple tables of 50nl on cake and stars. Well I wasn’t making any money and that got boring fast, so it seemed fit at the time that I move up in stakes and try out a little bit of 1/2 6max and HU. I don’t remember most of the hands. One hand I do remember that probably exemplifies that session is the one in which I call some reg’s 4bet with Q9o, float a 762r flop 100bbs deep, and get it in on a 9 turn. He flipped over 88s and rivered a 5. Well, after about 3/4s of a fifth and ~10 buyins later, my bankroll was crippled. I tried to salvage what I could by joining as many 5400fpps I could find, but I fell asleep during most of the games and I lost them all.

I’ve never felt so sick in my life. I mean I’ve lost a lot of money playing drunk and nothing has hurt my progress more than this, but despite the painful results of the past, I somehow concluded in my drunken stupor that playing my normal stakes drunk wasn’t enough and moved up. As I write this, totally sobered by the devastating results, I realize yet again how ridiculously undisciplined I am for online poker. I can make disciplined folds and lose less in pots, but what does that matter when I’m risking my entire bankroll on a drunken spree?

Anyways, as I lay in bed yesterday morning, I determined that I would do something to make up for the past night’s mistake. I cashed out my remaining 1k online and got an immediate cash stake from my brother. I drove an hour down to Harrah’s New Orleans while suffering from a massive hangover. I sat in the parking lot for about 3 hours and I tried meditating in my car to get de-tilted or whatever. When the headache subsided, I went in and played 1/2 for 15 hours straight and ended up sitting with a 3k stack, making back most of the money I lost. The table had been extremely crazy and the 1/2 game actually ran like a 2/5 or even a 5/10 game for most of the night. I kind of regret leaving earlier because there was this ridiculous fish with a 2.6k stack, but I was dozing off and I couldn’t really focus anymore so I left.

Well, I think I learned a lot about live games last night. I used to get so pissed off at how the pots would get so unmanageably large when you only have 100bbs and people are sitting with 500bb+ stacks and opening to like 10bbs pre as a standard, with multiple players and a 40-50bb+ pot on the flop nearly every pot. But when you’re sitting 1500bbs deep with multiple players, the game gets super interesting. When the players in question are fish, all u need to do is aim to see lots of flops in position with a wide range of hands for a relatively small percentage of your stack, and rely on huge implied odds as u draw to nutted holdings. However, in order to play with 100bbs, it seems one must develop a tight-aggressive “shortstacker” mentality to overcome the lack of implied odds. It’s impossible to do anything when you’re out of position with shallow stacks, without the aggression initiative. But when you’re deepstacked, you get so many opportunities to see all five cards and thus play with such a huge edge over other players.

Anyways, couple of big hands:

I have AThh, 100bbs deep, 2 callers. Flop is J84 with one heart. I cbet 30 into 45, sb folds and reg black guy who limped called check/raises to 70. I think his range is mostly bullshit hands here, weighted toward gutters and T9, rarely ever tpgk+ cuz those hands raise pre with the exception of maybe 44 or J8. Hands like QJ probably check calls. I plan to ship on good turns. 8 is a sweet, sweet turn so I raise ott and he calls and makes a priceless wtf? face when I show down AT ftw on a J8484 board.

7 players limped pot, I have Td 8d in the sb and complete. Flop comes Jd 6s 9d and I pot the flop. Fish calls and some reg calls. I turn Qs and pot again. Fish raises me with Q6 and the reg FOLDS T8hh because once i pot the flop/turn I presumably have the immortal nuts and he had no flush redraws. Lol I’m pretty sure that was a bad fold but w/e. I ship it in and river a 7d for the nuts and a 800 dollar pot. Sweet, free hat.

Some maniac Chinese dude raises to 10, followed by a call by the same reg. I make it 60 from the sb with KK, 400bbs deep and both call. Flop came Q9xr and I check/raised. Meh, betting would most likely lead to a 3 way turn on a potentially ugly board with lots of money behind and I almost always get action vs Qx and draws after the maniac makes his mandatory bet with like 95% of his range here because pot control isn’t really his forte. Anyways, Chinese guy bet 120, reg calls (when he calls here, I’m 90% certain he’s drawing to something), and I check raise to 300, get called by BOTH, but the stacks are nicely prepared for a shove on the turn. A beautiful offsuit 5 turns and both fold to the shove. Oh well, Ship the 1k pot.

Table fish snapcalls with QJo on AKxhh flop when some dude overbets all in for 120 into a 20 dollar pot… and hits. 7way single raised pot, fish check/call, check/call, check/calls on a QJ8TJ board with KJ. Idiot regular bet 1/4th pot twice and then like 1/2 pot on the river with AK when he could have shoved for less than a psb.

Limped pot with A6s in the bb, straddle is on. I flop AT6, bet near pot, turn an ace, and get shoved on by some guy with a 200bb stack (lol). Guess he limped AK or AQ pre.

Raise KK utg to 20 (obv), multiway flop (surprise!), get check called twice by this guy who’s trembling a TON on a QJxxr board and he rivers a two pair with QTo after the stacks go in on the turn.

Raise KK to 20, get 3bet to 60 by the blinds, I flat because the fish is still in the pot with me. Flop is TT8, 3bettor overbet shoves and I call. QQ vs KK boy I run good.

I flop a flush after raising QThh, fish calls pot with Ah, checks back the fourth flush card, and I bet/call the river T_T but it should’ve been the easiest fold ever.

I raise KK lp, 5 callers. Some other asian guy 700bbs effective bets halfpot and calls my raise on a Q5xdd flop. Turn is an offsuit 6 and I think I made this bet too small. I dunno… Let’s see, the pot was 370 and I bet 200, thinking it was like 2/3 pot but w/e. he rivers his flush with KJdd but I check it back lol.

Same Asian makes it ten to go utg and I flat with T9o cuz lol He and I are like a million big blinds deep. Btw I didn’t 3bet that much because 3-4 players had pretty shallow stacks and could 4betshove and I would look dumb if I find myself committed with some trash. Flop comes 867dd, asian bets 20, I raise, and the reg coldcalls o_O. Effective stacks are like 700bbs or something. Turn is a 6s and reg check calls 150. River is an offsuit 4 and reg donks out for 175 and I call (i should raise/fold as a standard? live regs don't call here with worse...? probably flats some full houses and folds 5? idk lost here). I’m really surprised that he had As 9d here. WTF I thought he wasn’t completely retarded?

Alright. Anyways, so I think I’m going to give online poker a break for a while and get back to playing live. Online poker requires so much more discipline than I can muster up at the moment cuz clicking buttons is way too easy, and way too easy to screw up during one crazy night of drunken stupidity.

Pokerstars Unban Me by Gadget, October 26

I'm hoping someone on this site will know the answer to this.

Like 3 years ago I was banned from pokerstars because I would send money to this kid at my school who would pay me like once a week however much he wanted. He allegedly multi-accounted and got banned and they suspected me of being one of his multi's. It is easy to see why they would feel this way, same city and everything.

Now I've been playing on fulltilt for around 2 years and I only play mtt's and sng's, so it is somewhat vital that I get unbanned or be able to play somehow on pokerstars.

If you guys dont feel that getting unbanned is a posibilty I'm open for suggestions be it legal or otherwise. Cashing out would not be a big problem because i could just transfer it to ftp with people. Someone please help!!!

Options I can think of at this point:
1. Try to get unbanned through emails and such.
2. Make a new account using different info. (I have a girlfriend whos name i could use, but will they be alerted by my ip and stuff?)
3. Use one of my friends accounts that doesnt play poker anymore.(basically like 5 years ago they all played on pokerstars for play money. Possibly same IP problem)
4. Great ideas from liquidpoker members.

I've probably payed around 10k in rake this year at FTP, Idk if that would make a difference to pstars or not, just thought I'd throw it in incase.

FTP Store Whore by Bigbobm, October 26

On 9/27 I ordered a TV from the full tilt store. Today (10/26) that TV arrived. It is also today that I realized almost everything cool in my room is from the ftp store. Observe.

Sony KDL-46Z5100 46 Inch LCD TV (345,000 points)

On the left, Sony Vaio AR710E/B (257,000 points)
On the right, The 24in monitor from the store (81,000 points)

The only other thing that's totally awesome in my room, that wasn't from the ftp store is this.
A foam sword. Great for instantaneous outbreaks of sword fights, not the gay kind, and hitting unarmed people for when I run bad.

Don't really have much poker related shit to talk about because of this,
