At the tender age of 24, I'm making my first trip to Las Vegas this weekend. My friends are going there for business, and I jumped at the opportunity to tag along. I'm probably not going to play any poker, because no one I'm going with plays, but I may dabble if I have a free hour. I will however, be down for quite a bit of nightlife.
What do those of you familiar with Vegas recommend? If it helps,
I am:
-24
-Kinda preppy
-Willing to drop probably 2k for the weekend
I like:
-Attractive women
-Hip hop music
-Good food
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Also, I've never met any of you, but if any LP'ers want to grab a drink, PM me and I'll try to make it happen.
And finally, if anyone has any ideas of what kind of costume to wear out (clever is encouraged), post them here. I'll ship $5 on FTP if I actually wear it. $30 if it's a hit.
Where do you see poker in life 5 years from now?by LikeASet, October 28
Ok this question applies for people who take online poker seriously.
Basically for those who are winning players and are getting better do you see yourself 5 years in the future;
-just playing poker as a hobby 5 years from now?
-playing poker as part time income?
-playing poker as the biggest source of income? (expect more money from poker than your job)
-playing poker as the only income, fuck a 9-5 completely
-quitting poker because it will be too hard/not worth it
-quitting poker because you will have made all the money you wanted from poker
me- I'm hoping I can become a pro so I don't have to work a typical job for $.
Feel like no matter what I do its going to be the wrong decision and so far everything I've done has turned out to be the wrong decision.
Its so fucking stressful, I've won 2 days out of the last 10, in which I've lost $4000 and have an EV of -$2000. I've enhanced the downswing with sucking balls ofc......
...
I'm getting a session with a coach to see wtf I lose money every hand I pick up and why I am so bad at what is supposed to be my job.
I'm b/e for the month now... except for the glorious rakeback from 23 thousand whoooole hands of poker playing......
for november im planning on doing a hand/training/eat healthy challange thingy.. (only for myself)
Why am i doing this?
~ LAS VEGAS ~ LAS VEGAS ~ LAS VEGAS ~
i wanna go to vegas, i wanna have a roll for vegas. good friend of mine who knows our own LPer Nolan is planning on going to vegas after newyears. getting a place together there and i really wanna go with em. havent met nolan but he seems like an awzum layed back kinda guy, a guy of my taste.
anyways i was asked to come along but i dont have the roll for it yet. and i wanna do this the right way. just getting a good mindset/lifestyle to try and make this goal happend.
$$ wise i hope to make atleast 10 000 € these 2 months (wich i almost should make only from rakeback if i play 200k hands +++) and ill have enough monies in total to go to vegas
i think its very possible as long as im not losing while playing. i just need to put in the hours.
The plan at first was to play 5000 hands / day for a total of 150k hands, but i think thats pushing it since im not gonna be able to play every day prolly. with girl and shit like that.
Im gonna try to keep 3333 hands/day over the whole month, wich is gonna be ~100 000 hands in november.
Im gonna try to move my ass for atleast 45 minutes 50% of the days, so 15 times.
Im gonna try to eat little better since ive noticed i feel alot better if i eat at "normal" times and just trying to keep a ruitine. obv im no master chef but ill try to keep it kinda healthy, with mostly meat and vegetables + couple fruites every day.
Im gonna go up at a decent hour. And also try to not drink to many times, like 2-3 times tops for whole month.
Just a normal week should be (the first day of the week, say monday)
9AM go up, go for a run (run/walk if laazy) for about 45 minutes, pick up some grocherys from grochery store so i got food/fruit/veges for the week
10AMish, take shower, change cloths, eat breakfast, drink coffee and shit, listen to some good music
then play about 2k hands (will take around 3-4 hours)
2PM eat some lunch, watch some series and stuff
Play another 2-3 hours
Try to eat something decent for dinner
Maybe put in a little extra session if i have stamina for it in the evening.
free to screw around with girl im seeing at the evenings, watch some movies and w/e.
shouldnt be so hard? should it?
starting off at 100nl right away i think, hopefully dont need to move down or anything anoying like that. hopefully get up to 200nl in december sometime
(ill do the same thing for december, if i need to, ill put in a little extra hands/day)
(i live atm with 3 friends so from a social aspect u dont need to worry that ill become some kind of psycho only playing and eating apples all day long)
ugly session. played 8k hands yesterday ..its like 3rd session i start bad and only play to break even. It was
real rollercoaster everytime i got even..i got bad beat like got money in 90-10 or 80-20 like 15 times in session.
U name it QQ vs KK, TOP set vs flushdrd etc.. AA-s got cracked in row AA vs 96, guy flops pair gutshot we get in,
3bet QT with AA flop Qxx get in t turn. Shotstacs where also miracle guys AK vs AJ AQ VS JQ, KK VS AT u name it..
they just hit 3 outers everytime and suckout. AND LIKE WTF HOW MANYT IMES OESF can mis, really wtf ..i missed
2 times yesterday open ended + flush draw and one open ended straight flush draw for allin onflop vs top pair and 2 pairs
never hit anything. Anyways ended yesterday -100 then i was break even 3 times ...
Hope to run good in next session ..
added some yesterday beats

Hei,
So i was playing in pokerhost regular grind , and suddenly on few of my tables the software doesn't let me see the river card... or the turn card , or sometimes even my own cards .. WTF... i had this hand where i had a Open ender and ch called river and suprisingly i could not see the card and the oponent bet big and i had to fold. Checked the hand history and i rivered the nuts... Got me rather pissed of then i instaclosed all tables and contacted live help, they couldn't provide my with not much info... They will look into it.

No seré nada
Y al mismo tiempo, lo seré todo
Por que en tus ojos

what a fucking shitty monthby Newblish, October 27
up 1.2k, then down 2k. Then back up 1.5k. Now i play nl400 vs a donk and lose 1k to him because i miss every flop and he calls 3 barrels with a gutshot and hits river(etc etc etc etc). down 1k for the month again.
What a fucking horrible month and what a shitty game. Sigh. Never had a losing month before, but here it is!. Happy birthday and poker loves you! (birthday was the 24th).
trance music suggestions helpby whamm!, October 27
im trying out this whole trance thing (im old lol) for grinding music coz indie rock tilts me to no end lately. help with suggestions, artists, albums, where i can download like playlists etc. i liked that armin van burren "sail" thing when it was posted here.
so far i only know, tiesto and armin van burren, i dont want old stuff but def similar sounding artists/djs would be great. thanks in advance to all you young people!!! lol
FTP tableninja/Half-pot limit STUD - tips?by itz-sooooted, October 27
My casino spreads a half-pot limit stud game - and its really really soft. the only problem is that i've never played stud before.
where do YOU think the best resources/ways of learning stud quickly and efficiently are?
on another note, i just downloaded yesterday tableninja for FTP, and just hotkeyed everything.
unfortunately, i'm still at the stage where i'm making mishits - its cost me about a buyin over 1200 hands so far. luckily, im testing over micro/low stakes.
heres a snippet of a pretty dumb misclick:

today is the second day of mikes wake. the first day (yesterday) had so many people come the line was out the door and up the block. we always said how we dint go out enuff and how we dont see anyone anymore becuase we both worked full time and really dint care for alot of that social shit every weekend. what a sick way for mike to get his wish. everyone came to see him yesterday.
my fathers probibly the worst out of us all but everyone forgets hes my identiccle twin brother.
High quality striking which is really nice to see since some people seems to think that Silva and Machida is actually world class strikers . They're obviously great and all but in the pure striking department the small K1-guys are really crazy. That's just some mighty fast hands :/
And on the fighting note; Overeem looked like a total monster at the weight ins vs James Thompson and the fight lasted about as long as you can imagine. Can't wait to see him fight Fedor. Can't imagine anyone actually beating that Russian dude but vs Overeem I'd imagine it'd be one hell of a fight. Overeem is really strong, really big and has very good stand up so Fedor would probably have to get him to the ground unless he wants a really close, and possibly losing, fight. I know Fedor is crazy strong and everything, but Overeem makes Lesnar look like a fat American beer-drinking and TV-watching fuck rather then the monster he is in his own right.
Anyway; War Übereem!
Poker
Next month I'll have a ton of school stuff. Mostly really interesting things so I'll try to like open up my mind and get wise and profound and all that stuff. I'll also be social with non-poker player and non-druggies a lot more then the last few months, which will be very nice. I don't think I'll get to play too much poker, but I'll play some live (Iop got me interested in some kind of team poker challenge in sthlm), I'll try to get in like 6-7 real long mid stakes sessions (5k hands) and then mostly play whatever I feel like. However, I will try to put school first since; A. It's interesting and B. I've played so much poker it's ridiculous.
This month I've played close to 90k hands, made a okish profit but since I've raked like a mad man my rakeback will be about twice what I'm used to which should give me something in the neighbourhood of 30k€ in total profit. Not the greatest month ever, but really solid and that's pretty much what I was looking for considering how I actually lost a little last month and won't have that much time to grind in November. Also learned a bit, I'm much less of a Omaha fish now then when I begun the month (and it only cost me like 10k or so!) and I got my head on straight about one hold'em concept I had kinda forgotten thanks to something Ansky said in a training video. Think I got a little bit to passive in some spots before trying to play "perfect" and such. Now I'm back to blind aggression as my go to solution for problematic and close spots.
Other stuff
Will go and see Zombieland tommorow with some friends. Think that movie might be the best one this year. Woody Harrelson is crazy good in everything he does.
Shogun is the true LHW champion. Machida will probably make a better fight in the rematch though.
oh, and someone wrote something about the Queen song Another one Bites the Dust in some hand I posted or something (can't find it now) so now I put that on everytime I stack someone.
variance free last 2 days (allthough i guess i hit the upperhand of variance in some way)
so lets call it swingfree last 2 days!
these days are so fucking sweet, just keep hitting them sets! im still down this month but its starting to head the right way again =)
hope for november to be a good one so i can get back to 100nl fulltime
So right now I hate my school/major with a passion and can guarantee I won't be a chemical engineer ever in my life. But I will graduate this spring with a bachelors in it. I was going to get a masters in the 4 years but decided to drop it simply due to it requiring a large amount of work I don't see a point in doing when I won't be that as a living or anything close to it. My current life plan is to play poker for a living after I get out of school while having a part time job somewhere where i'm insanely over qualified (like receptionist or some easy 16 hrs a week shit) mostly just to maintain a social life (plus a steady paycheck will be nice). Thinking that I will probably be a 2/4 grinder (which I'm currently playing) when I graduate in May (maybe 3/6 keepin my fingers crossed). I have a friend who I can live with from may to December for super cheap, like 400 a month total rent since he is going to be taking an extra semester to graduate. Also I am planning on becoming a part time student next semester, I only need to take one more class to graduate, so i'm going to take that class alone and use the spare time to put more time/focus into poker and having fun. Maybe try and actually put in like 35 or 40k hands in a month instead of the 20-23k I normally put in right now.
There's my plan, now here's the problem. Parents don't know this. My mom knows I want to play poker for a living and is OK with it, but she doesn't know I dropped the masters and that I want to switch to part time. But talking with her about life isn't my main concern, it's the talk with my dad. My dad doesn't know how much poker I play, or that I want to play it for a living. He thinks I want to become an engineer or enter the professional world with some other full time job or go to grad school. Everyone in my dads family is a lawyer or doctor from a prestigious school I mean Yale/Brown/Harvard/etc. I will be the first one to not do this and will be looked down on by the family. My grandparents have both said they will cut me off of any money if I continue to play poker (they said this like 2 years ago).
I have to tell my parents, bout my future life plans over xmas break (at the latest). I am wondering if anyone has advice for how to carry out this conversation, arguments to make about it, etc. The largest argument of, "look at how much money I'm making" won't work because for my dads family it's not about money it's about job bragging about how great there kids are. What ways would you approach this problem, I'm sure someone on this website had to face a similar problem at some point.
Also any criticisms of my life plan, like back up of bachelors in engineering from a top 20 school with a 3.3 or so GPA isn't good enough, or what part time jobs to look for are welcome.
