i think i need to go get a job lol by whamm!, May 15

obv make money on the side but more coz i think poker has kind of "ruined" my life haha. no balance just poker and buying stuff, it's come to a point where buying stuff isn't really making me feel good anymore, hence demotivating me to grind/play better etc. tbh id be happy earning cheeseburger rate having a job than just sit all day and look forward to gym and shit. im doing ok with poker now and im pretty sure ill wipe out that ptr fiasco of mine by middle of this year or earlier. just that i dont see the point in grinding only to get more material stuff. imma try look for one starting next month and ask some friends of mine for a token job.

heres a nice movie coming this year:

btw, ive been meaning to ask this for years now but keep forgetting. how does one make paragraphs here? even if i space stuff it still comes out as a huge wall of text. ty and gl guys.

i am really confused spots by mnj, May 15

Alot of these spots or somewhat boring/common and villain depending but If you could keep your advice as specific as possible. Some spots look similar but are different other spots are pretty much repeats. Please feel free to comment only a few hands.

As always I appreciate any feedback.

Hand 1: Do you double barrel here with the added equity? Or do you prefer c/calling and not getting blown off with a hand with so much equity. Do you call here? Do we have any implied odds watsoever? We can stack a flush sometimes, but will get stacked by a fullhouse sometimes
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 2: In the big blind with position on a fish but oop against a reg. Do we 3-bet here or just call and see a flop? What is more +ev?
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 3: Similar to hand 2 except we are UTG raiser, and once again behind a fish but oop a reg.
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 4: Do you think it's better to v-bet turn or river? Which looks bluffier? I currently think checking behind looks like i have TT-QQ, but i don't think i would bet river. but i wouldn't bet turn with TT-QQ either. Maybe flop-min raise is bluffiest?
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 5: Does villain c/call a 9 here or does he bet it out? I'm basically asking do you guys like to vbet turn? turn is scare card but i'm clearly not trying to bluff. does betting turn maybe fold out higher pocket pairs and get draws to call?
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 6: V-bet turn or vbet safe riveR? Villain can't call with much except for 88-99, so vbet turn to get flush draws as well?
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 7: Is there any reason to check the turn? Once again I don't know whether to bet turn or river :/ or if it even matters (just trying to max all EV as much as possible)
+ Show Spoiler +

Smack Down on BP / Halliburton by k2o4, May 15

Obama just laid the smack down on BP, Halliburton and even the federal govt for their failure in the Gulf Coast Oil spill.

Video here, short and worth watching

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama on Friday angrily decried the "ridiculous spectacle" of oil industry officials pointing fingers of blame for the catastrophic spill in the Gulf of Mexico and pledged to end a "cozy relationship" between the oil industry and federal regulators that he said had extended into his own administration.

Obama said he shared the "anger and frustration" felt by many Americans, and promised he would "not rest or be satisfied" until the leak had been capped, the spill had been cleaned up and gulf residents could return to their livelihoods.

He also acknowledged differing estimates about just how disastrous the damage from the leak could become. He said the administration's response has "always been geared toward the possibility of a catastrophic event."

...

Reacting to the president's remarks, NBC's Andrea Mitchell said, "I frankly don't remember a Rose Garden scene like that against the industry since JFK and the steel industry."

pacquiao update by whamm!, May 14

just watched the national news.

the guy won the gubernatorial elections in his area of the philippines (lol) not sure if he's governor or congressman but whatever, he just declared on tv that he WILL fight mayweather under the given conditions of blood tests at random etc. he says
it's his gift to his constituents and countrymen haha. so yeah this fight will happen hopefully this year or early 2011. so no more rumors of who's dodging who coz this fight pretty much a done deal after this statement.

cults and chemicals by Perisie, May 14

i was reading about some gay deadly chemicals and it lead me to "sarin", a drop of which will kill you if it touches your skin

then i read about a japanese organisation that sounds like something from an anime, a bunch of religious-science elitist who enjoy anime about becoming super powers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarin_gas_attack_on_the_Tokyo_subway
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aum_Shinrikyo

this is the neurotoxin bacteria that 1kg of the chemial can kill the human race
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clostridium_botulinum

this is a tv show called "1000 ways to kill yourself"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_...e_episodes#Episode_3:_Unforced_Errors

american women eat clay ....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geophagy

this reminds me of when i stumbled upon a big forum for "people who obsessively consume ice". they were all chatting away about their obsession, how they always have a bucket of ice to chew on (and iron deficiencies related to the act)

If you play without a HUD. How do you... by hiems, May 14

Spot Tight-Aggressive players when you are playing Hud-less? And figure out the idiosyncrasies to their game? Emphasis on playing hudless.

It seems that players that are fishy, laggy, and nitty are easy to spot, since their qualities are at extremities. But

I have trouble spotting "tight-aggressive" type players.

What kind of things do you look for? Which of those is the most important?

How soon do you reach conclusions? Do you ever make certain plays to "Test" how they will react to get a read? (Ex flatting a river bet to see how they play, or 3-betting them IP).

Well if you get 3bet a lot, then there are a few ways to adjust. You can back down and tighten up like you are, but my favorite is to bring the noise and start 4betting. .

apparently 4 bet/folding is winning poker @ nl100
[cause all the regs seem to do it]

at what point is it ok to just ship over the 4 bet? Like how much do you think I should pay attention to betsizing. I mean a 4 bet is usually 20-26 percent of your stack and my question is what is the most optimal bet size, and do you ever bother 5 betting it back.

and random last question; how many of you guys just bet flop bet turn and ship river here?
